Dylan.McCullough Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 This is pretty much how i've been taking all the posts in that i read.. JKD is a mentallity, and doesn't teach you fighting moves, or anything, it just tells you to be free...??? hello there
Menjo Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 This is pretty much how i've been taking all the posts in that i read.. JKD is a mentallity, and doesn't teach you fighting moves, or anything, it just tells you to be free...???I take it like this:From what I hear and read, JKD practictioners seem to be constantly thinking of the fact that its so much different than any other martial art. That being said, I think they do have classes and tecniques, however it is overshadowed by the philosphy(when talking with other MA). Just to note, I dont think its actually very different from an other martial art at all... I'm also pretty sure it means to be clear minded in a fight and let your body react and instead of reacting a certain way to a certain attack, you use your instinct... I think this would be a much more reliable referance ...http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=22108 "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
BJJ is 1 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 there are two different types of jkd, there is Jeet Kune Do which is the art that Bruce Lee developed and there is Jeet Kune Do concepts which is a always evolving art. This means if you go to 2 different schools that teach jkd concepts tehy my be simmilar with a few difference or they could seem almost completly different. But if you go to a Jun Fan jkd school you will learn the art as Lee himself developed it "Without Jiu Jitsu its like without my two legs."-Rickson Graciehttps://www.myspace.com/cobraguard
UseoForce Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I posted a similar reply on another thread:By default, JKD is what works. If it doesn't work, its not JKD. Having said that, there are multiple solutions to any given problem, so JKD can define any number of separate "solutions," if you will. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
Rank7 Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Theoreticaly, nothing beats jkd. It just can't. Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 80 pixels, the height no greater than 80 pixels, and the file size no more than 8 KB.
UseoForce Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Exactly. If it loses, then it wasn't really JKD. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
yamesu Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Reading the Tao of Jeet Kun Do, by Bruce Lee,will shed light on these questions, especially pages 205-208. "We did not inherit this earth from our parents. We are borrowing it from our children."
Son Goku the monkeyking Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 This is pretty much how i've been taking all the posts in that i read.. JKD is a mentallity, and doesn't teach you fighting moves, or anything, it just tells you to be free...???not to be rude but what gives u the right to decide what works and what dosen't unless u have actually tried using the fighting art in combat before and even then in depends entirely own the combat situaition, and most importantly how good a MAtist u are with it to begin with. JKD is a MA style aswell as a philosphy it dose tell u to be free and adapt like u said, but it was also a style that incorperated many, techniques from tons and tons of others into one to make a new sorta super style.PEACXE
BLOWN Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I JUST started taking JKD 1 1/2 weeks ago. And in the 3 Classes that I have been to so far, I've learned a great deal. I feel I'm already a better fighter than before. IMO it defintly is an awesome style to learn and I feel 100% sure that in a real life scenario it could help you defend yourself and or save your life.-Ray -Pain Is Weakness Leaving The Body.-It's Not The Size Of The Dog In The Fight, But The Size Of The Fight In The Dog.
yamesu Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 The following text is taken from page 208 of 'Tao of Jeet Kun Do.' by Bruce Lee.It is the last paragraph before his final signature:"If people say that Jeet Kun Do is different from 'this' or 'that', then let the name of Jeet Kun Do be wiped out, for that is what it is, just a name. Please dont fuss over it."It helps to have read pages 1-207 as well, to draw more meaning from the above statement.Cheers. "We did not inherit this earth from our parents. We are borrowing it from our children."
