My parents had been trying to convince me to take martial arts for years, but I didn't get excited about it until I saw some Jackie Chan movies.

I'd have to say that the movie's "Revenge of the ninja, Ninja3 the Domination and Enter the nija inspired me. By the time I was six yrs old,I had my own ninja uniform and weapons to go along with it. I also was blown away by watching the Sunday Kungfu matinee that was on t.v at the time. I also really loved sidekicks with Ernie Reyes jr/ the last electric knight. By the time I was seven, I had tayght myself how to stick sharpened number two pencils in the drywall of my bedroom without breaking the lead. I all went from there.

Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them

My grandfather and father both fenced so I grew up in a house with swords hanging around all the time. My child hood heroes were Zorro and the Three Musketeers.

I didn't really get into eastern martial arts until college but growing up around swords has definetly shaped how I approach and digest techniques. It's amazing how many techniques and philosophies can be traced back to sword play.

O Sensei said that everyone has a defined sphere of strength and if you can get them outside that sphere then their strength will disappear. I say, EXPAND YOUR SPHERE!
