Davison
I was wondering how young everyone was when they started studying the martial arts? When was the first time you realized that this is what you wanted to do for the rest of your life? I was around six yrs old when I started to really get into watching old ninja movies and I used to sit in front of the t.v and watch the Sunday morning kungfu showcase of all the oldschool kungfu movies of that era. I started training when I was about 14 yrs old in a traditional form of Jujutsu called Hakkoryu.I have been studying under the same sensei ever since. Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them
taiji fajin
Begged to get into it as a child, only to be repeatedly told no. Did wrestling in high school (15 years old), which is close, but not really a martial art. Started actually doing martial arts (kuk sool) right after I turned 19 (in college). Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage.

karatekid1975
I realized I liked MA's when I saw the Karate Kid movies at age 11 or 12 (dang I feel old now LOL). But my dad watched the old Kung Fu movies when I was younger. My family couldn't afford to get me lessons, so I ended up getting into music first (age 14). I played drums off and on till about age 25. Then I lost the spark for playing. (I still play once in a while when I visit friends in NJ). That's because I was finally able to take martial arts. I had a job back then that I thought I needed a little "self defense" skills for just in case. So I finally started taking martial arts at age 24 (Oct 2000). As they say, the rest is history Laurie F
AnonymousOne
I got into Karate at age 7. My older brother was a school boy boxing champion and I used to go watch him train and I trained in boxing a little then too. There was also Karate there and I was fascinated by it. My parents thought it would be better for me than boxing because I was a weak and very unhealthy child that suffered badly from asthma. They didnt want to see my bashed around as in boxing. I enjoyed the training and when I was about 17 (so young but had done 10 years training!) I realised how strong and healthy I had got. It was then I decided to practise Karate all my life. However it wasnt until I was about 20, after a very mean and big black belt beat the crap out of me that gave me the motivation to step beyond normal dojo levels of training activity. 41 years later, I am still training twice daily 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. If you are cruising, make time for losing
