The best thing to do when strengthing any boney part of the body (such as forearms, fists, shins, etc.) is to break down the bones by rubing then with somthing hard or hitting them on or with somnthing hard.

Our sensei said to build up tough skin on the shins kick a suspended sand bag lightly 500 times with each leg every day. I know it's old school, but perhaps it would work for the hands as well?

just be careful about conditioning your hands. A lot of times people who can do things like iron palm, end up with arthritis.
