HELP i think i broke it!!!!!!!!

Hi,

 

Just wondered if any of you guys could offer some advice. I was at training last night and was doing some kicking drills, i executed a full power roundhouse and my partner holding the kick pad (relativley new guy) droped the pad :evil: and i hit his arm square on with my shin. Needless to say this hurt :bawling: , but ok these things happen, however i woke up this morning and although there is no visible bruise i am finding it very painful to put weight on this leg. Anyone got any ideas on how to get this to heal as quick as possible as i have to train again over the weekend.

kicking his arm hurt you? that's odd... In any event, the shin is a hard bone... I seriously doubt it's broken. there may not necessarily be a bruise, but is there some swelling? Hopefully, you iced it when you got home. Ice and tiger balm. after a few days, start applying heat as opposed to ice.

 

If it persists, get it checked out. it could be nothing, but depending on what other types of impact or pressure your shins have encountered, it's possible to have incurred a stress fracture.

Yeah im not sure if it was his arm or his elbow i hit kind of a funny angle, i didnt put ice on it when i got in cause it kind of wore of (went numb) but today its not a happy leg. What is tiger balm? maybe in a way it is a good thing that this happened as it shows i need to condition my legs better (any tips for this?), but i dont understand as i can kick a heavy bag many times without my leg hurting.

 

P.s. i dont think its broken or fractured and it is possibly a bit swollen, had a shower when i got in but think im gonna bathe it tonight in the bath and hope that soothes it.

It probably was an elbow, I've caught a few elbows with my shins and it can kill. As far as a bruise being visable that does not really mean to much, a lot of people after training for some time dont even bruise a easily in spots anymore. I would for sure take it easy on that leg unti it is feeling better, just to be on the safe side. You dont want a small injury to turn into something big.

A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!

I've had a similar injury. Was sparring and wasn't wearing my shin pads. I did a round-house kick and my oponnent brought up his knee. My shin, just below my knee hit his knee. Wow that hurt. But the pain mostly went away in a few hours. After that it was just a dull pain with no visible bruise.

 

Until about 3 days later. I was riding my motorcycle [sport bike, so my legs were tucked under pretty good]. After about 2 hours of riding, we stopped for lunch. I got off the bike and nearly fell over. I could barely put any weight on that leg. Then I noticed it had swelled quite nicely [still no visible bruise].

 

I managed to get back home, in much pain, and my leg hurt like that for almost a week more. [in spite of using ice and tiger-balm].

 

Eventually it did stop hurting. If it had lasted any longer I would have gone to the doctor.

 

So here's hoping for a quick recovery for ya...

It sounds like shin splints to me. You might have a series of very tiny superficial fractures. When the muscles and tendons exert pressure on this area you feel a sharp pain. It takes a week or two of babying the leg for the pain to go away, however you can re-injure your leg quite easily for about 4 - 6 weeks. The same amount of time it takes for a regular bone break to heal. My advice is to take it easy on your leg for a while.

My advice, and this is important... keep it high at all times... and dont walk much.

 

I was playing football when I got a similay injury, a guy kicked me really hard in my shin, he was wearing shin pads... I wasn't, I played for a while, but the pain got worse, when I got home I couldn't walk on it, I put ice on it and all that, but it didn't do much.

 

So for a couple of days I was on crutches, (still no bruising) and after that it was almost okay, then a week after the accident I got bruising on my foot, the doctor hadn't told me about that so I went to the doctor agin, now she said it was musculature and blood that had gathered ther during those days that I didn't keep my leg up high. and for 2 weeks I couldn't put weight on the foot, the crap that had gathered in my foot was aching like hell, probably pressed on nerves, so the whole thing lasted about 5 weeks until I was able to train again.

 

So keep the leg high, until you think you think youre ready to put all your weight on the leg, once blood has gathered in your foot its irreversible, but the good thing is that if it isn't that severe and you can stand the pain then it's okay to do whatever after it has already bruised.

Thanks for that, to give you an update i trained again last night and my leg has been feeling ok, however as soon as i did some kicking even on the first kick i felt pain in my shin. I was unable to do much kicking as i did not want to agrevate this futher. This morning i have a ache in the shin when i walk not quite sure what to do for best as i have training again on Wednesday night. I might give it a good soak in a hot bath tonight and see how i go. Any suggestions on why this is still hurting is it just bruised on the inside i have no swelling or visible brusing but my leg is definitely weakened.

well if you can walk on it,it sure isnt broken.

 

Its probably just sore from it hitting the guys arm.Give it a few days to heal,and if it doesnt show any bruises then your not hurt as much as you think you are.
