isdigirl Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 Hello all. I use to be heavily into Kung Fu and Shaolin Kempo Karate until I got injured pretty bad and had my daughter. That was 5 years ago. I want to get back into it, but I am so out of shape and scared of getting hurt again. Maybe some people can encourage me to get back. I know it would be good for me. Maybe they have a tamer form of Martial Arts? I am only one belt away from my Black. I am chicken!! ISDIGIRL
Luckykboxer Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 welcome to the boards!!! I am sorry about your negative experience. My suggestion would be however to go visit your old school, or at least your old style if it is at a different school. there is something to be said for completing something that peopel start. I have seen such a boost to peoples self esteem and confidence when they reach a hard plateau like their black belt! Escpecially those that quit for whatever reason and came back to accomplish it! It might be fun to bring your daughter in and have her join as well... In myu experience family makes it funner and makes it much more motivating!
gheinisch Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Hello and Welcome to KF! I say to go for it! Fear is the unknown. You have already accomplished so much. Get back into it and finish what you started. Then you want go through life wondering if you could have acheived that goal. Good Luck with what ever you decide. Rotten Head Fok Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Hello, Welcome to Karate Forums! If you want to, then do it! As far as being out of shape that will change after time. Do some research and you'll possibly find a style more to your liking with less chances of injuries. You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
ramymensa Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Welcome. Just go there and train. You'll be tired, unskilled and so on. In few months it would be better and you'll regain your skills. Good luck with it and keep us posted World Shotokan Karate
