Dijita Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 We've been doing a lot of squats and such in our training recently. I woke up this morning, got out of bed and walked, and my knee cap popped out and I fell to the floor. My knee cap feels like it is floating right now, and it keeps popping out and it's quiet painful because it hits the bone beside it. What's going on? I have a tournement on Saturday, what should I do to make it better? Ice maybe?
ZR440 Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Ah yes, the old sublexation of the patella. I had that. Doctor told me to do leg curls and extensions. Unfortunately, your's sounds quite serious and I don't think there is a quick fix by the weekend other than ice and ibuprofen. Go see a doctor. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
Dijita Posted May 4, 2004 Author Posted May 4, 2004 Sublexation of the whuu? What in the world does that mean? By the way, where in Michigan do you do Kuk Sool Won? Years back I used to do Kuk Sool Won near Sault Saint Marie, Ontario.
ZR440 Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Excessive movement of kneecap. Hurts like h-e-(double hockey sticks), doesn't it? You might be able to use a neoprene knee wrap to keep it centered for now, but you really need to see a doctor. There might be something serious going on there. I'm in the lower peninsula of MI. I don't practice it anymore, but I know of the place you're talking about. They have a big club. Master Simons does a great job up there. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
Ironberg Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 Knees are funny things. They can be the most annoying thing that makes you realize how much you take them for granted. I've had near misses with my knees and feel lucky. I hope you can see a doctor about yours. trekmann Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 I really do not think subjecting your injured knee to a tournament this weekend would be advisable. Get to your doctor ASAP. The strongest principle in human growth lies in human choice (Alexander Chase).
Thuggish Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 im gonna throw in a little advice here- wear knee wraps when doing heavy pressing leg movements, especially squats. the help is tremendous. if you feel anything, that is anything at all in your knees, stop immediately. also, dont do too much too fast. but anyway, yea- knee wraps. a broken arm throws no punches
BritNoob Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 I've just started Karate and I'm very unfit. I thought i'd post in this thread since it's knee related. I have a problem where my knee hurts if I put weight on it. It kind of clicks/pops when i extend it after bending and there's a fair degreee of discomfort if i do squats or any kind of crouching. It's not a constant problem, it seems to come and go and onl;y lasts a couple days. Luckily I haven't had it on the day of my karate session so it's either good luck or the warm up is clearing it up. Any thoughts? I've only had 4 hours worth of Karate lessons so i'm about as new as you can get to it so i'd appreciate your thoughts.
GrrrArg Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Go see a doc. I have had problems with my knees for years but the docs have previously tapped them and said they're fine. I finally was able to see my old family GP (good doc) and within five mins he told me that my knee is out of track with my leg, its not due to karate and infact anything that builds up the thigh muscles will help the knees and I've prob had the condition since I was born (alarmingly the word crumbling did pop up a couple of times). It means physio and possibly a trip to see an orthopedic doc but at least I know somethings finally been done about it. My point, if the doc says they're fine but they continue to hurt, go back and use pester power until they have a proper look at them, worked for me.
