ramymensa
You have here the second most inflexible person on Earth Took me 2 years to do the front splits. The side splits have to be worked a bit since I have 7-10 cm to the ground. The advice is as said before ... patience and lots of work. Try to really warm up the legs before attempting anything, don't push too hard .. as I had months of recoveries instead of actually progressing, all due to the overpushing. Better slow and constant progress than injuries and recoveries. It's like a slow constant growing against leaps and set backs. I'd say the first one is better Try to work at home too. Watch tv and do all kinds of exercises. Try to do them slowly and pay attention to your body. A small discomfort would be present though, as the muscles, tendons and ligaments aren't used to this routine. When it hurts seriously, stop, or you'll risk injuries. My sensei always advised us to do everything slowly and never rush when going up from a stretch. The idea is that you should stretch and slowly come to the previous position. Doing it quickly can lead to injuries. World Shotokan Karate

Jerry
So you are almost there then .... tell you what. Get a partner (at the dojo under your Sensei's suprvision) and warm up properly. See how far you can split and then try this .... http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=174943&highlight=#174943 "You do not truly know someone until you fight him." - Seraph"To be the best, you must be the best." - Me
AngelaG
I'm nearly down there in side splits, but I can't do front splits. It's a a psychological thing though. I get scared doing front splits as I feel I have less control and I bottle out. We make it a class excercise every couple of weeks. Student: "Why did you hit that guy with a chair? Why didn't you use your karate?"Master: "Hitting him with a chair was the only karate I could think of at the time."Lesson: Practice until you don't have to think.
