I've heard so many different points about carbs and protein. Things like eat as little carbs as you can and eat lots of protein, like the atkins diet. But, i've also read that you need more carbs because if you don't, it will lower your endurance and severely weaken you. And eating too much protein and too little carbs is bad because your body is more used to burning carbs... I just wanna know how I should eat, because I really wanna lose some weight... and it'd go a lot faster if I knew what to eat, and what not to eat.

Bruce Lee needs to lose weight??!?!?!?!?! :o

j/k

If it helps at all, I lost a lot of weight on the South Beach diet, and highly recommend it. I also started taking karate after starting the diet, and I am doing well in karate, despite the lack of a high carb diet.

I adopt this simple rule that I have learned from my former weightlifting instructor.

I eat mosly carbs and fruits at lunch and mostly protein at dinner. If you feel you need more protein add a protein additive at breakfast. Never more than 30 g of protein per meal.

BTW krounchyfrogg what's the South Beach diet? :-?

When I'm lifting, I try for at least one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day. I don't lower my carb intake, but you've gotta keep it to whole grain carbs...its the simple carbs that are bad. I'd reccomend https://www.bodybuilding.com. There's a wealth of information there, plus a forum if you have more questions.

It's another one of those new low-carb diets, but has several differences from the most popular: Atkins diet.

SB is a very strict diet for about 2 weeks, where all you can have is protein. You're supposed to avoid having a lot of red meat as well. After those two weeks are up, you're encouraged to start taking in carbs, as long as they're coming along with a lot of fiber. you're never supposed to go around eating as much steak and bacon as you'd like, as is encouraged by many other diets.

The diet is actually geared towards diabetics, and people with heart problems. Since I have both problems in my family, I thought I'd take advantage of the diet (and lost about 25 pounds doing so), and hopefuly I'll stave off heart disease and diabetes as well (I work in a hospital, and have been getting blood tests. So far, my readings are all coming back much better than before!)

hmm... interesting...

well, the thing is, i'm really not trying to get big at all. i'm trying to get small right now, lose some fat. It's just doing the low carb diet that I'm doing, when I do workout, I feel so tired and after a few days, i just need to quit because my body feels so sore... so that's why i wanted to know what's up with the carbs, and if they're relaly that bad for you. and if not, what carbs are good for you?

Carbs give you energy. The idea behind low carb diets is that you burn off your long term energy (fat) instead of your short-term energy (provided by carbs and sugar).

That's what I've found works well with the SBD. After two weeks of no carbs, you work in carbs from grainy things, like wheat bread and bran flakes, ect. You also work things with sugar back (as long as they have fiber too) in, albiet slowly, like oranges (a whole orange is MUCH better for you than a glass of OJ -- OJ has too much sugar).

The reason I (and I assume the other guy) reccomended bodybuilding forums is because half of bodybuilding is cutting away fat, and no one knows how to do it better than bodybuilders.

Who better to trust about fat loss than people who get to 8 percent bodyfat and below while maintaining as much muscle as possible?
