  1. Ahh, brotherly love... I taught my younger brother some kicks and stuff when we were younger.. When he got older he taught my even younger brother, I regretted it for years! .. Lol. Now my middle brother favours BJJ moves, (no idea how he got them from ) and our younger brother is on his way to becoming a boxer... That was meant as a cautionary tale
  2. Nothing makes me feel sicker/angrier... Hmm, as for your question I agree with cross and Rainbow_Warrior...
  3. Hello everyone! I've been here for a little while now and thought that I should formally introduce myself! My name is Jay, I spend my time reading up about different styles of martial arts, listening to music, playing music and at KF I've studied Tae Kwon Do at a small school (very small town!) was a McDojo so left and trained in the few useful things I had learnt while studying Chinese/Japanese history and culture in my spare time, this eventually led to studying (reading about) many other styles. The other arts listed in my profile have been taught to me by friends that are either highly-ranked in their art or have actually taught in schools (There aren't any schools in my area and I feel I'd go crazy without my MA's!). Thanks. E.I.S
  4. Full name God/Goddess type: Cult Leader Worshippers: Monks (think Shaolin Kungfu) They show devotion by: Eating Pork Nickname God/Goddess type: God of Mayhem Worshippers: Communists They show devotion by: Eating Pork Lol, keep them coming!
  5. You know your obsessed with martial arts when- You practice kata while on the phone. You commentate martial art movies with various criticisms of technique, no matter if you're watching it alone or with a group of people. Everytime you give an example of something it relates to martial arts in some way. You wake up in the morning holding up your arms in a guard. You scream "FOR THE NINJA!' in your sleep. (Don't ask about that one, let's just say my girlfriend was a little surprised...)
  6. Yeah... I think that was infront of a group at one of his dojos yes? I forget specifics..
  7. Hey! I'm in that kind of situation (with the small, middle-of-no-where town and the only friends I really enjoy being with living a distance away (85 k's...) My mother used to say the same thing until one day I pointed out (in a calm, respectful manner) That I could be out doing drugs or torturing small animals etc. (Not that I would actually do those things, I was just trying to get my point across! ) And now I don't hear anything of it! She actually encourages my training
  8. Undeniable Ninja truth 1=Black is always in season. Undeniable Ninja truth 2=If in doubt, use mind bullets. Undeniable Ninja truth 3= See "Undeniable Ninja truth 1"..
  9. Hhahahahaha, nice one Mine are a bit along these lines too... Except every so often I throw someone cross a room...
  10. Quite an interesting article Kajukenbopr, I was under the impression that the "original" form of Eagle Claw created by General Yueh(?) Fei was lost at some point, the blanks were later filled with other arts... But don't hold me to that as my memory is sketchy concerning this... edit: Yay! Yellow belt!
  11. Hate to repeat it but yeah.. Sensei.. Lol. Personally, I'd take that as a compliment as he's more than likely just intimidated/jealous of your skill if he's saying such things.. More for the benefit of his macho-man ego than an actual opinion I'd say
  12. Personally, I've found waiting until they're fully commited to the kick, side-stepping and then using either a front push kick to the body or a sweep will at least push your opponent off-balance... The key is to wait until they're fully committed to driving through... If you understand. Not really reccommended for snap kicks though, as they can be fired off quite fast. If that doesn't prove effective, evade the kick, step in and leash...
  13. Apparently I'm a very "intense" person, I've been told that that intimidates alot of people.. I also find that being calm (especially in the pre-fight stage where you may have someone screaming all kinds of things in your face) Can diffuse the situation...
  14. Brainwashing... Nice I tend to repeat "I am the wind" to myself over and over again (in my head, along with visualising wind passing through a foret of trees.. It helps keep my movements fluid but forceful and to smoothly transfer my weight... Especially helpful when I practice Aikido or hand combinations with my imaginary opponent...
  15. I only use music if I can't get focussed properly.. I like Drone, house, drum&bass and some psychadelia, usually no words...
  16. I think by watching how people move you can get at least a very basic idea of how skilled they are... Things like weight distribution when they walk, posture, fluidity and such things can often give some idea I find... Not that it's an exact science or anything!...
  17. Does sound like a lack of circulation... When you meditate, what position do you usually meditate in?
  18. JusticeZero Posted: Mon Apr 25, 2005 6:52 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aikido as taught by Ueshiba contained 'Atemi' - strikes. They were used to set up techniques, mainly. Since then, overzealous and over-pacifistic students have in many cases removed the atemi, seeing them as counter to the philosophy -whether on not they were needed-. Ueshiba's art was not aggressive, but it contained "aggressive" techniques. Aikido draws from a Zen background, philosophically, and in Zen, in the proper state of mind you can do certain things that would seem "aggressive" without being aggressive your self, for instance, if you are calm and empty of thought, and you are attacked and respond with a killing blow with your sword, spiritually, the killing blow from the sword is seperate from you and you didn't do it, it was the universe doing it. (This gets misused, obviously, by overzealous pacifists trying to avoid responsibility for their violent and angry impulses rather than becoming comfortable with them) Justice Zero, You have made my day... I read both of these in the middle of a library and had twenty-five people nearly hitting the roof when I burst out laughing/crying... Thank you I know what you mean when you talk about these pseudo-pacifists.. I've only seen one example but there must be more out there! They think that using an art seen by most as a "soft/peaceful" art justifies the fact that they are just uncontrolled people who it seems, seek to not take responsibility for their own actions... I find it so annoying when people purposefully twist the meaning of something to suit them
  19. I find that going easy on the training always helps... I usually halve my "base" training (sit-ups, push-ups, crunches etc.) and weight-training, cut out any running/jogging altogether and keep things like stance and technique training at their normal rate (unless it's wearing me down substantially). I find if I keep up my normal regime I get sicker for longer..
  20. I think I know what you mean... Kind of like your on auto pilot right? I don't see white or anything, just light and controlled... I actually see it as a good thing to a certain point..
  21. I really can not think of a situation that I can imagine me using a so-called "death technique"... Not that I'm a highly trained killing-machine but I think there are so many alternatives to actually killing someone,. even if it requires more effort, I think it's worth avoiding the murder trial
  22. It's all good as long as you know your limits etc... Getting blind drunk every night seems kind of pointless (and expensive!) to me. But, as some people have pointed out, it is handy knowing how you would react/handle in a situation when you're affected by alcohol etc.
  23. I voted "other" because the main reason I train is for spirtual reasons
  24. I was in a 5 on one fight once... That was before I had any training at all, it got pretty messy. I've had my shoulder pop out while having an Aikido technique used on me (my shoulder was stuffed before-hand mind you). My knee popped out when I was trying a side kick when I didn't chamber it properly and kind of kick up (understand that at all?) That's probably the worst of it that comes to mind right now... Sorry for my fatigued babble!
