  1. A couple of weeks ago I was at a ward and they made had us do some yoga. Being the showoffy impress the ladies type that I am, I placed myself in some odd position to the point were I heard a loud SNAP in my knee. Now let me tell ya it didn't tickle one bit. I was sore my whole time being there and until I got to the dojo to get my nerves reset, I couldn't walk without a sharp pain in the location previously mentioned. When I go to walk up the stairs to the computer room it hurts a just little, but I can't do some exercises within the dojo anymore, because of intense pain. So I was wondering what are some exercises to help me with getting rid of this injury? Nothing is broken or dislocated it just hurts.
  2. When you are in a street fight against lets say 2-3 opponents, what are some ground grappling techniques used to fight against multiple enemies? I've heard its better to use ground fighting techniques then stand up attacks, but is this true?
  3. I notice that whenever I do a series of pushups I can do 20-40 outside in the grass then inside 1-4 in my house. Is it the surface that’s effecting my ability to do a pushup? Mind you were I train outside there aren’t any people watching .
  4. After about 4 months I am finally going for me yellow belt test in two weeks. I wasn't able to take my yellow belt test sooner, because the dojo moved so far away over the summer to were it would cost to much to drive over there. So yay me! I just got’a do two katas and that’s it. My sensei says I have learnt so much so quickly in a my time being at the dojo and he also remarks that my Chi is the strongest he's ever seen compared to his other students who are at least Green Belt and above. So ya kadoos to me.
  5. Me and my friend were sparring one day, he had two blunt Swiss army knives, (Training weapons). I was fighting unarmed and was trying to learn how to fight against knifes without a weapon. If I were to attempt to disarm one knife he would stab me with the other right in the neck still holding on to the other weapon. So how do you fight unarmed against an opponent duel welding weapons?

I was wondering what type of sparrer are you more of from the list besides the Total Package Opponent? Personally, being a white belt (going on yellow in two more weeks), I am more of the Sniper/Faker. If I'm taller I will usually use long range pucnhes and kicks, most commonly feinting 1-3+ times and then coming in with the strike or kick. Works wonders in stand up fighting. Now I do stand 6'4 and weigh 185 (Kinda chubby strong legs though), and this may be the benefactor to my winning streak in Ryukyu Kempo.
  8. What are some exercise, besides pushups or weight which would increase arm strength? The reson I am asking this is: I can't do 2 normal pushups and I mean this literally. Usually after the second one I just automatically get up even though I don't want to. If I were to use weights their would be no space for these weights simply because there is little room in the house I live in, because of the small rooms and large amounts of furniture. I have no garage. If someone could recommend an easy pushups for a weak person that would be super. I’ve tried Hindu Pushups and they seem to be working somewhat well, but I don’t think I’m doing this type of pushup the right way. My younger brother seemed to have dropped most of his weight and turned it into muscle in record time, but he has access to weights, while I don’t. (And no I don’t live with my bro’) He told me that a drop pushup should be easy for me to do, but I need when performing them I need to stop letting my knees strike the ground first coming down. So any help would be appreciated.

  10. Another more lethal style of martial arts would be titled Gaia-Jin martial arts, meaning (Outsider different person of earth) combining Burmese Boxing, Ninjitsu, and finally Krav Magna. It would be a style bent around ending the fight quickly by KOing the opponent or breaking a few limbs. Of coarse in this dojo their would be a Card stating you are a trained martial artist and the attacker attacks first you are not liable for broken bones or disordered throughout your life because you have picked a fight with me. (I'm not sure what the cards are called. I'll ask my sensei about it later) The sparing matches would be a combination of MMA and Burmese Boxing, and the winner must win by KO or Submission. There are three five minute rounds. Once a combatant is KOed there team would revive he/she within five minutes. Once a person concedes the fight or gets KOed three times in a row the fight is over. Also submissions could also end the fight as well. The only way to win by TKO is for the boxer's safety if he has a broken ligament or cartilage. In terms of Kata persons within the dojo would learn a few katas and then asked to create their own in higher belt levels (Yellow Belt+),, and will be asked how will they use the kata in a fight and the effectiveness of the Kata through sparring. Within the Gaia-Jin limitations people may break boards to test the strength of an attack. This is my unique fighting style that I use in real combat situations, however this is not an official martial art or dojo; however I do teach people who I know will use these techniques only to defend themselves. I am contracted by the dojo I attend, to only teach techniques within my belt level.
  11. My favorite fake out: Lead with the southpaew, place the feet in a reverse cat stance, hands waving like a octopuse, and then come in with a fient kick from the right foot. Next I knee 'em in the stomic with with the left leg and follow through with a snap kick to the groin. Then as they lean down from the blow I punch em in the button while fishooking their eye. I am the worlds deadliest Bemeese Gaia-Jin fighter. (Its my own style)

    At the dojo I attend we don't have a class for each belt level. From white belt to black belt they all attend the same class. Most people who go to the dojo only use the forward fighting stance and that’s about it.

  14. When I sparred against a friend of mine in Ryukyu Kempo, I notice that I usually follow along the lines of an attack pattern, but once my opponent catches on to this I change it. Like lets so I were to use punch, kick, punch kick... combo and then once my opponent catches on, I use a different plan of attack. This tricks the opponent into expecting an planned attack form from his or her opponent; however you can catch the opponent off guard once you switch your attacking style. Now could someone answer this question? Is this an effective way to fight? areas of martial arts
  15. Today in Ryukyu Kempo class was my first time sparring in Ryukyu Kempo and we used touch contact rules. I spared against a good friend of mine down at the dojo, who is a beast in Jiu-Jitsus and is a Green Belt. I however am a white belt in Ryukyu Kempo, which is basically a Striking Art. Now he was new to Ryukyu Kempo and is a white belt within this fighting system, so this may have contributed to my success, because I have more experience then him in this style as I have practiced this style for a longer period of time. He is still fresh to it. The match began using the Touch Contact Rules Point Rules with a Two Minute Time Limit, meaning we only attack at four too seven- percent power. We were being critiqued as we sparred as well. We are not required to bow or shake hands before our opponent, but when you spar me I always bow and shake hands with my advisory and people usually do the same in return. We touched knuckles so as to show that we were ready and the match began. I opened up with the first attack using three punches and then a kick, a very difficult attack to block. I repeated this attack pattern three times till he caught on so as when I switched my attack pattern I would throw him off guard. After the third three punches I feinted with my right leg opening him up for an attack from my fist as I knew he expected me just to throw a Tai Kick. The punch landed and I shifted my attack pattern once again. This time I would use a flurry of punches threw four punches is quick succession, but slow enough so as not to fight outside the speed limit. Again I caught him off guard. I predicted that he was thinking I was going to use the same move over again, but this time once I took a couple of hits from him I backed off and moved into a tactical position. This would allow me to gain some distance between him and I, because I have the reach advantage; my height nearly being six inches taller then him (I’m the tallest guy there standing 6’3. The tallest guy next to me is 5’7). I then opened up with a series of kicks so as to create a gap between him and I, landing my kicks near his left and right ankle successfully. He then after about the third kick began blocking my kicks to the lower part of his body, so I aimed for the mid section near his stomach and chest landing a few hits. It was then the girl with the clock announced, “Thirty Second Warning!” I then began my punch kick, punch, kick… combo until he again caught onto my attack sequence. By the time that had happened the 10-second warning was announced. My sparring partner then opened up with a flurry of attacks, but I had successfully kept my distance with the kicks from the earlier combo that I had enough distance so as to avoid being attacked. By the time the clock beeped the match was over. We bowed before one another, shacked hands, patted each other on the back, and bowed towards our sensei even though non-of this is required. We then awaited the judgement of the score keepers and I had scored of 8, 9, 8 for a total of 23 my scorecard, while he scored a combination of 7, 6, 6 for a total of 19. I had won my first sparring match in Ryukyu Kempo.. I was so happy!  Also this guy kicks my butt when we roll in Jiu-Jitsu time after time again. So we each have our strengths and weaknesses in both areas of fighting and we build off one another in different
  16. Normally here were I live an attacker is most commonly provoked when a person(s) have a verbal argument or are just angry at another person, object, thing, or idea. I also see a lot of people fighting in large groups against one person, most commonly improvising weaponry they find lying around the area such as sticks, rocks, toys, sand, and etc. So what are some of the most common or rarest attackers that you know of?
  17. If you could choose three styles and mix them together, what would it be and what would its name be? Please describe what this style uses as well. Personally I would mix Capoeira , Ninjitsu, and Drunken Karate and I would call it Drunken Ninjaoreira. This would offer many be more of a flashy style of martial arts keeping the opponent on the defense with a continuation of attacks such as the Capoeira kicks, the Ninjitsu grapples, and of coarse the Drunken Fist’s/Capoeira movements.

    Right now I am a white belt in Ryukyu Kempo and will be taking my yellow test in about a month (After about a year of waiting to take me yellow belt test). Almost all of the students within the dojo only know one stance to use for kicks and strikes, even the black belts, which is the forward fighting stance. We only use the other stances such as cat, horse, and crane (we don't use dragon) when grappling because it changes the polarity in the body (not sure exactly how it works) and deal more damage to the opponent. Now we do learn many variations to the crane stance through our katas, but we are rarely taught anything outside the kata when it comes to stances. Now in about a year I have only seen the horse stance being used to defend ourselves against a rear naked chokehold. So I was wondering, why is it we only learn the forward fighting stance when attacking with strikes, elbows, knees, and kicks; but use stances such as the crane, horse, and cat stances (and that's all most people in the dojo I attend know, even the black belts) when countering a grapple? We haven’t learnt in my time being there how to counter a kick or punch, but instead rear naked choke holds and wrist grabs. So fire away and try your best to answer this question. PS: My sensei also says that Chi is the Chinese word for .05 Volts of electricity throughout the body that we use to enhance our bodies. Is this true?
  19. For about a good thirty minutes to an hour, I have practiced my second kata and I think I've got it down pat. Now I just gott’a do my first kata so I don't forget it. I was also wondering how do you remember new katas without forgetting your old ones? Just repetition I guess?
  20. Once I learn my second kata (I think I've got it down, but it still feels unnatural) I will be able to take my Yellow Belt Test. I was asked if I wanted too take my yellow belt test, starting out only using Ryukyu Kempo’s Taiyoku 1; however if I were to take a orange belt test and beyond I would have to learn two katas before taking a test. I however have decided to take my yellow belt test, having to learn Taiyoku 1 and Taiyoku 2, so later down the line I will only have to learn one kata once I test for my orange to black belts. So did I make a smart move? And I was wondering what are YOUR experiences while preparing or taking a test for your next belt rank? Share experiences here as well as discuss if what I did was a smart move.

I notice that I am a very weak fighter when ground fighting, because compared to other students within the dojo in my Ryukyu Kempo class thy all have at least some Jujitsu or Mixed Martial Arts experience. I however am only a white belt in Ryukyu Kempo, but I've only had one days experience in Jujitsu and learnt how to shrimp. Everyone in the dojo were I go to are at least a blue belt level, however I have defeated some of them in a spar as a white belt. Now most people try to get me into a ground fight which I'm weak in. So pending on what attacks they throw at me (Don't know what there called) they usually get me into a ground fight. How do I avoid the attacks such as armbars leg bars (not sure what those are called) and chokeholds?
