  1. Interesting. I took that same survey but it was emailed to me. Maybe because I am on Century's mailing list?
  2. Congrats! You guys are a great resource. Wish I had found you 9 years ago!
  3. Sounds an experiment I may have to pursue!
  4. Yes I am just talking about a strip of tape that would get wrapped around the wrist joint. I guess it just helps reduce the impact on that joint.
  5. Just wondering if anyone could explain the significance of some schools/martial artists who tape their wrist before performing a cinder block break with a palm heel strike and why some other schools/martial artists do not?
  6. What are you currently doing as far as a split and volume?
  7. Any of the mentioned elbow strikes I am referring to you would pretty much either keep your palm in the position you originated the strike with or turn your palm 180 degrees as you strike; ending the strike with your palm in the opposite direction than when initiated. For example-with an elbow drop or I think what may have been refereed to as a descending elbow strike; at the top or initiation of the strike your palm would face the away from you and your your hand would rotate so that your palm would be facing you as your elbow descended and would have completed the rotation before the impact. I have done this precise technique breaking a cynder block before but have never been sure if there was any significance to the twist. Make sense?
  8. Anyone going to Napma's Quantum Leap next week?
  9. I guess truly it depends on what your initial instructor taught you.
  10. Ha! I do that too. Isn't it great when people are watching...?
  11. Same thing with the palm heel. I tend to start with my palm pulled in next to my ribs, my fingers pointing towards the ground, and twist my hand as I strike whether it is a cynder block break or just a strike.

  13. I have seem in different styles when performing an elbow strike some people turn their palm as they strike and some do not. I understand the significance of twisting your punches. Is there any significance to twisting your palm? For example when doing an elbow strike downwards some people have their palm facing out and as they drop their elbow they turn their hand towards themselves. Same with an elbow strike that goes horizontally. Thoughts?
  14. I constantly push open doors with my knife hand.
  15. Has anyone heard of the Mile High Karate franchise?
  16. Out of curiosity I wanted to start a discussion on what the different weight ratios are in differnent stances and if they differ in different styles. The first style of Tae Kwon Do I learned was: Front stance 50/50 Back stance 70/30 Horse stance 50/50 Cat stance 90/10 Any other variations out there?
  17. Another interesting thing is though I do not feel any pain while wearing shoes; when I keep my foot in the same position for a while,(with shoes on) especially while driving, I get a painful burning sensation in that area of my heel. Guess I should go see a real doctor!
  18. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the following: On my left heel directly in the middle it feel as if there is a little lump under the skin that is soft and painful to pressure. It really bothers me when we run around the dojang barefoot for warmups as well as other times. It has been there for at least 4 months. I think it has developed due to repetitive impact. It is definitely not a stress fracture. Any thoughts?
  19. I am searching out the pros and cons of both a karate school or a gym. I am involved with both industries at the present time and have weighed it out myself. Just wondering what everyone else's take is on this?
  20. Well according to the doc, I have to take it easy for the next 3 weeks, a total of 3 weeks after the surgery. That means no running, jumping, excessive twisting(round kicks out of the question), lifting weight over 20 lbs. ect. After 3 weeks and up to 4 months pretty much back to normal, no heavy lifting though, no more than 50lbs. I may have to sit out some classes and this will probably slow me down one advancement cycle. I should be able to return to assisting at the end of this week though. I assist all day Saturdays at my school. I will just have to listen to my body and play it by ear.
  21. Hello all, Has anyone had any experience with the recoup time coming back from a microdisectomy? It is a minor back operation. I just had the procedure done yesterday and I am wondering if there is anyone out there with first hand experience or has known any one in the same shoes as me. I primarily study Tae Kwon Do. Thanks! RJ
  22. I have a black belt certificate in Chung Do Kwon Tae Kwon Do. One thing I have never been able to understand though is how does a Chung Do Kwon school or style differ from others? Apparently it is not the curriculum. I have browsed websites of other Chung Do Kwon schools and the curriculum varies from school to school. Is it certain traditional aspects of the school?
  23. I train at Jeff Smith's World Champ karate. He is not out on the floor as much now a days but still is once and awhile, runs the black belt exams and manages the school. He is former seven-time PKA World Light Heavy Weight Karate Champion.
  24. Has anyone has any experience with any of the Mile High karate school. To my understanding it is a franchise and I was wondering if anyone knew of the ciriculum taugh in these schools.
