After teaching for a couple years now and daily work hours being barefoot keep increasing I have been noticing an onset of some foot issues. I feel as if I have a pinched nerve in my left foot in the middle arch area. It seems icing helps cause it may be do to some minor swelling. The right foot feels like I may be getting the onset of plantar facitis as I feet a burning/pulling sensation in the inner arch area. I am now doing a little icing and rolling whit a spiky ball in the evening but ultimately I am assuming I need to start wearing some type of a shoe with arch support while teaching. I wear size 14 so they do not make martial arts shoes in my size so I am going to try some wrestling shoes. Just wondering if anyone has experience the same issues or has any suggestions?

I just got over a hamstring pull(back of the leg) and it took about 6 weeks total. First week just rice, weeks 2 and 3 light stretching and after that foam rolling heat and stretching. About to start back on the strength training as well.

How long did it take it to heal Kuma? It has been almost two weeks since the last time I over exerted mine and it is a little better but still tender.

Guess that's it then. Can't do much. It is tough teaching 6 days a week though. Sometimes I forget about it and demonstrate something and ouch!

Just wondering if anyone has had a hamstring injury that has sidelined them. I originally hurt it sprinting at the gym and I made it worse stretching and sparring.

Hello everyone! The trip was interesting. I was able to get there a day early and noticed the air was much drier(really used chapstick) and a slight elevated heart rate. The next evening is when the physical stuff started. After doing forms/excerting myself I was winded quite fast! I was also light headed. I was forgeting some of the moves cause I could not think strait! After that it was not so bad. I had headaches for a couple days after coming back to VA. Very interesting event; that was considered my pretest! Now I have to do my official 2nd dan test at my school tomorrow!

2 1/2 more weeks! I will let everyone know how it goes!

Inverted Round Kick Vs. Twist Kick
rayjag replied to rayjag's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I watched the link. The way it was broken down from start to finish was what I had learned as a twist kick. Good stuff! Interesting how there are little tweaks in names/techniques from school to school. Thanks! -

Interesting. I have heard some people say 'Bring your knee up, to the inside and then shift your hips to kick.' And others skip that step and have you bring your knee up already pointing to the outside, foot to the inside and kick. Wondering if someone is skipping a step. -
Thanks. I will analyze my hand positions again the next time I am doing a form involving that in class in the mirrors. My old instructor always said, 'Just above the knot of your belt' and my current instructor says 'On your solorplexes!' I want to make sure that I am teaching it properly.

Typically when doing a double knifehand or sudo chop one hand is flat against the chest like you are holding a glass of water and the other is chopping, finger tips eye level, elbow slightly bent. With the low sudo one hand is chopping a fist and a thumb from just above the knee and the other is on the chest at an angle or at an angle just above the knot of your belt? I have seen both. Your thoughts?

Good stuff everyone. Unfortunately I no not have any mountains or high altitudes around me but my plan as of now is to start doing mare cardio and interval training to get my endurance up as much as possible. Thanks!

Sounds like it will be challenging but that's the way it should be! Thanks!

I am planning on getting something that has 4-5 pages, a shopping cart and able to take payments. I will have a friend assist with some and I am planning on reading up on website design. I do not want it to be too crazy though. I am hoping for some point and click. I already have a domain name to use. Thanks!

I agree with everyone else. Martial artist first.

Hello everyone! I will be taking a second dan test in November in the style of tkd I am training and teaching in now. I live in the DC area and will be taking the harder part of the exam in Colorado. It is a 48 hour physical exam. I know that the air is thinner in the mountains and I am wondering if anyone has any out of the box recommendations as to how to prep for this? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am trying to start a website and am kind of new to it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who is a cost effective and easy to use website provider? Thanks!

This was the third weekend in a row my school has been doing a table in a theater with free trial offers. We have a bunch of marketing material in conjunction with the karate kid movie and will be doing it for the next few weeks while the movie is hot. If you have the manpower you have to do periodic enrollment drives and community outreach events to grow your business to the next level and increase your name recognition. My current full time job is at a gym and we do the same types of events for membership drives. The basic/trial classes have been huge the last couple of weeks and that is what is needed for growth and profitability.

Just wondering what everyone recommends as far as frequency per week, and duration per muscle and session?
-
Wow! My school and myself went and hung out in the lobby with a spin wheel for karate prizes and a free 2 week 'guarenteed prize' of karate classes over the first 2 days of opening and got a ton of intro appointments! I thought the movie was good too. Saw it Fri night.

Figured I would start this since the movie opens tomorrow. What is everyones thoughts on the Karate Kid remake? Anyone use it to market or go on a enrollment drive?

You definitely need to approach classes for children differently than adults. Sounds like that instructor needs to some training on working with children.

I do have to ask what the 3 ks are? Kicks Katas and something else?

Such a simple but true concept.
