  1. People will judge others based on there own preconceptions. If I train for years in TKD/Karate and then go into a Muay Thai school I might think there kicks are sloppy as no one does a "proper" chamber. If I train Aikido for years visiting a wrestling class I might think the takedowns are "crude" If I am conditioned to "Traditional" arts I might walk out of a BJJ class as soon as I see the Purple/Brown belt instructor, since only x dan and higher can teach a class, A purple belt doesn't even have 2 years training right? Untrained people are sometimes better at judging others then trained people, simply because they haven't been conditioned to think a certain way.
  2. Shorin Ryu, do you spar with throws or just work them individually?
  3. Hehehe... If your getting killed at long range clinch or go to the ground...
  4. McDojo - A degrading term used towards schools that do things that go against the beliefs and indoctornation of the user. One mans "McDojo" is anothers ideal dojo.
  5. Nah, you can add new things no matter where you are. As long as the two don't do the same things just differently.
  6. Depends on the arts, the schools, the instructors and you. Not all arts work together though.
  7. ROTFLMAO Are you serious, or are you just trolling? Either way, Please report to your nearest boxing gym.
  8. In canada Brass knuckles are illegal.
  9. Then don't be surprised if people say you have a rather skewed view. How can you say Shotokan is the fasted if you have no experience with any other styles? I have found Shotokan people to be rather slow, not in the sense that they moved slowely, but because they're moves where really exagerrated and easy to see coming. I've even heard it refered to as the JKA dream punch, they dream of landing it, everyone else dreams of them trying too...
  10. Are you sure they are legal? Best not brag about that.
  11. Do you think all martial arts involve kata?
  12. Yarborough had no real skills, he was thrown in because he was really really big and it would make a good show... The no rules fights where refered to as "Rough and tumble", and still not many deaths, just injuries. People don't die that easily.
  13. LOL, Ok you win. Anything physical will help, its just a matter of how much help for how much effort. If your primary goal is fighting, I don't think kata are worth it.
  14. No, boxing wasn't revived until Broughton's time, and then came Broughtons rules. They where not fights to the finish. Even the "street fighters" of the UFC had some training, Tank did wrestling and boxing, but he was a street fighter.
  15. No one died, the tapes are available at amazon or ufc.tv Experienced street fighters where there
  16. Yes, this was allowed
  17. Sure there was. There was even a 10th dan
  18. Guess it is a matter of cost/benefit. Some people think it has value, others don't But when I fight the movements and postures are not the same as kata. So the movements, the postures, the co-ordination are different, and often opposite to what I want to do in fighting. Doing Ballet will enhance all those things too, but it won't help you learn to fight,.
  19. The two rules of the first UFC's where no biting, no eye gouging. If you did them you where fined, thats all. No stoppage no DQ, and yes, these things where done.
  20. Funny, I seem to remeber this happening already... Some guy named Royce won...
  21. I gave you an answer to your question. Karate gets picked on because of people with your sort of attitude. People that don't realise the strengths and weaknesses of their style. Karate does not have everything, saying it does makes you look ignorant. It's like a BJJ guy claiming he could win a TKD tournament, not going to happen. BJJ doesn't cover the skills required to compete in TKD. Karate doesn't cover the skills required to compete in MMA. Not a problem, unless people start claiming it does and making * claims like "No wrestler could ever take me down"
  22. No, they are usefull for learning how to move, for relaxation, for excercise, for health, for co-ordination, for balance, but not for fighting. To learn how to fight, you need a partner who is fighting back.
