For women and MATURE, health knowledgable people....

It is NOT right Now you are happy to not have this, but in a few years you'll wait for this particular moment and will be happy when it comes -
What has martial arts taught you????
ramymensa replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've noticed they have something against this "I can't", maybe because many tend to avoid working out or taking MA seriously by hiding behind these words. Unfortunatelly for those lazy lads, the instructors know what is all about. -
Hmm Did it again .. I double posted. Sorry. Memo to me never hit "back" again. A question . If we all tend to put ourselves under 5 or just at 5, why not change the rating system to 1-5?
-
No problem As "coleagues" in the same MA style, it's normal to share some POVs. It's nice to see you don't have to be from the same region or country to find some "soul mates" I don't know many things about other styles, but I know Shotokan is for the patient ones. If they are not like this, they'll become. I'm sure there are other style who teach the same thing among others. Patience is a sign of maturity, perhaps the only you'll find at me

Guess 4. I could say 10 cause you don't know me, but it wouldn't be fair Sometimes I'm very fast, sometimes I almost fall asleep. It depends on so many things When sparring I tend to be very ferocious and fast, although I don't really hit my partner. It scares the anyway When performing kata I tend to be slow. I like to study my moves and position, and afterwards add some speed.

I dread doing _______ in class!
ramymensa replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Basketball ... nice. Did this, loved it, almost ... We did a little game (25 minutes I guess) and after that the instructor said :"Well let's work now." Hmm Work. We were dead tired, but we had to do it. It was great in the end. This semester we played another basketball game. It was OK, except for the beutiful blisters on the soles on my feet They've healed. Now I've hurt my big toes. Both -
What goes wrong in your dojo?
ramymensa replied to ramymensa's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In our federation it's the same about getting a Shodan rank. Those newbies in our dojo expect to promote woth the others in december. I guess they'll be a little disapointed, because sensei didn't tell them to wear a white belt when coming to his dojo, but will make sure they really deserve their next rank -
Monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday (this particular day I train in a self defence class before karate, so it makes 2 classes ). I spend a lot of time reading about karate, and of course browsing this forum.

We have some new arrivals in our dojo too. A green belt who doesn't know the difference between hidari and migi (left and right) ... and others who lack knowledge in "basics". How the h...ll did they get promoted? -
Yeah. They seem to like to undress you Fortunatelly I have a very nice red top and nice abs ... so I like to display them Today I'll wear a new top. Hope it will stay fitted, otherwise I'll have another story for you

Thank you for the answers. Guess I'll visit Mr Ortho ...

Well now that you've brought this into discussion ... those who diconsider us for doing MA. I really hate those guys ... "Ahh So you do Karate. Hmm Ehhh Simple ... You should so something more serious." Then I get them into a class, and let them die from exhaustion. They never come back I had 2 coleagues from radio. They laughed at me for 3 months until I convinced them to come to our class They came and lasted for 3 classes. I've never convinced them to come anymore. "Huhh. It's too hard. I can't do it." Love to get them to their knees.

KickChick ... you are really fast. I was just browsing here and came back to "view your posts" and saw your name there 10x for the link. You are indeed a master ... of links and knowledge. Am I allowed to use the title "master" when adressing to KickChick? -
Something similar happened at a class in our dojo. Not to me (thank God), but to a coleague. We were doing some gohon kumite (5 step sparring) and her gi opened a I got a nice view Hopefully I'm not interested in such views, so I turned away, taking care to cover her in her attempt to recover "the stuff". She was lucky, because no one saw the "picture" and they only guessed from her hasty moves something had happened.

I've received a HP Photosmart 120. A real eater. Fortunatelly the gift was complete: a charger, rechargable batteries (Unomat), and 2 compact flashes. Great
-
LOL I've already sent it to my instructor. Guess I'll get some push ups or a good laugh, depending on her sense of humour

TIME TIME TIME and more TIME. You are at the beginning. Of course you get tired quickly. Let some time pass and after 2-3 months we'll discuss Try to do your best, learn to see your faults and try to improve everytime. Eat well, train well and it will be OK. Good luck. PS To feel more confident. I was so tired when I started karate, that I couldn't even finish the class Now I have days when I train in a self defence class and immediately I get into karate training. After all this program I feel so fresh as if I just woke up Everything gets better. Just wish it this way

I'll sound now like a total idiot, but ... let me have it I've heard many times that us, girls, should not involve in a strenous activity during that marvellous time of the month ... I disobey this everytime and so far ot's OK. Is it really? -
Two eggs? For 2-3 years I've turned my liver opside down. I can't eat fatty stuff anymore, because I feel sick after. Eggs are tolerated ... sometimes ... sometimes not ... thus I try to be attentive. I also lost 4 pounds in the last 4 years. And I was thin before

I train outside the dojo whenever I find the time. I ususally perform the forms (kata), kicks and punches
-
The problem is as follows: at self defence we perform all kinds of rolls and falls. A few weeks ago I fell on the tatami in a wrong manner. And it hurt Since then I almost stop breathing from pain if I fall on any side of my trunk. Just then ... hmm weird. Any possible reasons? KickChick ... and of course the others in this forum who are quite good at diagnosis
-
I'm glad you are interested in this thread I remembered other things I hate. I always felt like killing someone when the person comes and asks "why don't you do this or that?" To be more specific: on thursdays I go to 2 different classes (self defence and right after that, the usual karate class). When in the karate class, my instructor told us (we are 3 students involved in this "experiment") not to warm up anymore with the others, just to do some tecniques. Of course there were some idiots asking:"Why aren't you warming up?" I always mind my own business; why can't the others do the same? I also dislike being hit with no reason. When I and a friend take a short sparring session we do it with control, and after agreeing previously. there are some who just come and kick. With no control and of course with no permission. After that ... explosion

Communication ideed. My sensei is quite mad because I ask thousands of questons. Fortunatelly he is glad I'm so concerned with all this stuff and he answers all my questions. As for those regarding the exams ... ask as many as possible. They have to tell you everything, because it should be no secret -
Funakoshi a villain? Interesting ... I wouldn't consider him that way. I'm greateful there existed a Funakoshi so now I can enjoy practicing Shotokan Guess every "father" of a style should be considerred good because he tried to achieve something, to promote a way of life and so on

I stumbled on this topic. It's kinda "old", but I thought it to be interesting Dojo02:"A couple of months ago i meant a J.K.A. yondan and he has helped my karate a hell of alot. He has opened my eyes to alot of things mainly making my kata sharper and techiniques more accurate. One of the things he said to me once was that if i study shotokan outside the J.K.A. it is not real shotokan. " Yeah sure. That's what they always say. This is a good example of how they can trick ones miind. You are not studying real shotokan? What are they studying then? The real shotokan? Funakoshi and even Nakayama are dead for some years. You could say they are not studying real shotokan because the master can no longer teach them Anytime you hear "stories" like this smile and mind your business. Let them feel good for studying the "real" shotokan and if there comes an opportunity show them yours Well just kidding Never let these guys make you feel bad. You study Shotokan and that's all. Be as good as you can be, train for yourself, stop when you feel you've done your job and take care. This kind of remarks are another sign of the "tricks" and deceiving words coming from organisations trying to make themselves even more powerful. Why has got JKA affiliates all over the world if those schools don't teach real Shotokan? It makes me laugh
