  1. I didn't know what they were all about. now i do. 10x for the explanation We use to call them Coreens, that's why I didn't know what they looked like
  2. Poor guy They think he beat you Well about getting injured ... some of us don't want to look like coming directly from WW2, that's why we are so careful. I'm a girl also and I know how weird is to show up at work and among friends wearing some pretty "marks" Our ally is now winter. I wear pants and long sleeves, thus masking some coloured "memories" from sparring.
  3. 37? I hate Australians and Africans and so on .. Where you live it's an eternal summer Here in Timisoara is kinda cold, 2 degrees and very cloudy. Saturday night it sparted snowing, but here weather is usually warmer than in other parts of the country, so if you want snow, go to the mountains. Now it's a mess on the streets and i'm kinda sad BTW ... I'll spend the last days of 2002 on the mountains with Mr.Perfect and our friends. Hope I'll have enough snow .... to last me an year
  4. 3 YEAR CONTRACT? Indeed ... What were you thinking For a martial artist 3 years is a "lifetime". In 3 years you could get tired of this or even find a better school (which eventually happened ). Anyway ... Good luck.
  5. Like Freestyler said (see, we agree ) PMA is sometimes better. One must be told when one mistakes, but one must also be told it's OK, the technique was good. Punishment is also a good "weapon" when dealing with some students who need discipline.
  6. RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!! Well or just walk fast If you like the new school ... go there and I hope it will be OK. About the old one ... hmm What's that particulat thing that would get you banned? Perhaps you could try it, if it's not dishonourable How long have you got to stay there? You could try to make it worth. Work hard, find a friend to sparr and do a lot of exercises. Whenever it's "break time" use it to work with your peer. Or make them want you to go
  7. Peace then I think your initial post (the first in the thread) was kinda onesided That's why I bursted like this. Your last post is more dear to my soul. We are all trying to acomplish different things in our MA training. I for example am crazy about perfectionism and katas and sparring and detail and so on. You must have your own goals and it's OK. Ohh I've posted too many times in this thread ... Sorry Freestyler ... guess I've got a date. Come to Romania. We'll talk more
  8. I remembered ... DETRIMENTAL? Freestyler ... I think the title is kinda weird if not ... more. About techiques and other stuff ... I recommend visiting https://www.24fightingchickens.com I appologise to the moderators. I don't imply there they've got a better site or a better forum, but there Freestyler is able to read many interesting informations ... otherwise I'd spend the years to come trying to point out many many things
  9. Unfortunatelly it's not a constructive criticism ... as long as we are just guessing and throw diagnosis. And regarding the title ... Karate as we all know or should know reffers to the styles originating in okinawa/japan (wado ryu, s-hi-to ryu, shotokan and so on). If we were to respect this, other martial arts would have to find themselves another forum But it's to the best way. I love interaction and knowing so many people from other styles. It's nice to find out so many things about them, but again I ask you PLS let's not act childish. We are here to learn and to respect ... If I was to put down my opinion ... I guess I'll be rude ... i could say in America there are many styles, some very new, never heard of in other parts of the world ... I don't know them ... they are not good. Right? Nope. Wrong. Some are great. I guess. And I respect them, Although I stick to my traditional Shotokan and wouldn't trade it with anything untraditional Many guys started another style just to grant themselves a 125147574 dan and the privilege of calling themselves Masters, Shihans, Senseis and so on. It happened. In America you have Mc Dojos and other "cute" stuff. There are not so present in other parts ... The styles made up just to have some new organisation are bad, aren't they? Nope. Not entirelly. There are students who work hard to become proficient. They must be respected. They deserve it. Traditional styles are being questioned because they don't offer a great range of techiques. Or so some think ... Well they DO. I can speak only for Shotokan and repeat, We have all. Grappling, some groundfight, kicks, blocks, throws, armlocks... You just have to stick to it enough to learn them. The learning process is kinda slow and gradual. One must spend some time to find out about all the nice stuff. It's a drawback, or a good thing for the perfectionists A long post again ... Sorry... I had to many things to say ... I appologise AGAIN if I sound unapropiate or disrespectful. I got carried away. Take care and train. And don't forget, WHERE EVER you go, go with ALL YOUR HEART. It's the most important thing.
  10. I'd do something similar. A block we call uchi uke (from inside to outside) to deflect and a very quick and devastating reverse punch to the solar plexus or to the chin, depends on my mood If I was really pissed of I would add some leg techniques ... ouchhh
  11. I've noticed you've embarked in a series of anti-traditional karate posts and I can't explain why. You should have a reason for trying to put in a bad light all the guys who train in traditional styles. In order to do this one must have many years of training in these styles, must have taught many years and done some serious research. I would really like to know how many years have you trained in Shotkan, Wado ryu or other traditional styles. Afterwards we'll talk I'm sorry for the post ... but really ... it sound disrespecful to imply the traditional karate is crap ... I've trained with some great teachers and if I was to sparr with a similar martial artist (same rank) trust me ... I wouldn't be a victim Traditional styles are still extremely popular and if they weren't good they've been gone and forgotten ... I appologise again and invite you all to be more tolerant ... This kind of discussions are cheap and don't look good when it comes to people who claim they are superior
  12. Speaking for myself ... I've started training when I was 20. I've never had the opportunity of doing this as a child, so I can't tell how it feels to be a teenage karateka I was always slender and quite fit, but since I've started training I feel a lot better. I look very good and in comparison with other peers you can always tell I'm doing a lot of exercise. It feels great to have an active life
  13. Nope, Sai, we are not jealous. We thought we shouldn't bother you in your little club Just wait. In 16 years I'll join your club Till then you are all welcome in ours
  14. They've done some changes since I last visited them Results for my father's only daughter: the U.K. No.1 on the 17th October 1978 was... Summer Nights by John Travolta And Olivia Newton John and the U.S. No.1 on the 17th October 1978 was... Kiss You All Over by Exile ... I happen to know those tunes and like them
  15. Well KickChick, you succeeded ... you brought tears in my eyes Great article. Makes you thing a little farther
  16. Guess we humans are great when it comes to make simple trhings very complicated about this bow-not to bow ... if they obey the rules, they can stay, if not, they are free to go. We can't change rules just to be OK for everyone.
  17. Yeah ... been there too Was scared to death ... Afterwards I tried to perform these techniques and I was lucky to have our instructor by my side. She helped me feel the joy of doing this, cause ukemi and other similar stuff are quite thrilling. The first thing is to stop being afraid and of course to trust your partner. It's nice to have good and proficient persons around. It's even more pleasant when they turn out to be your friends
  18. STRIIIIIIIIIIIIKEEE!!! I feel the same way. And in katas there are many techniques very efficient and nice. What I try to do all the time is not just win a sparring session, but to apply new techniques, well not new, but interesting ones, taken from kata of from my imagination. I love the creative part, and a martial artist MUST be creative. Guess And in order to be good at sparring one must sparr, and please all DON'T think us, karate guys and girls, don't sparr. Well we do. A lot, but we also pay attention to kihon and kata. The 3 K's (not KKKLAN )
  19. A Knife? No way!!! If you weren't that proud, nothing would have happened, but then we wouldn't have a subject here You already know it's best to let this kind of freaks pass by, and just ignore them. If put in a similar multiatacker situation, aim at the boss, try to move and hit as hard as you can. Try not to let them surround you and rotate thus knowing where they are. As the others said find a wall to have them in front of you. Vital points and whenever possible run. If they follow you can take them one by one. They can't all run at the same pace. And never rely on knives. Guess the implications would be much bigger
  20. Elbow strikes .... yammyyyyyyyyy. They are indeed devastating. it's amazing you can do so many things with them At close range they are a good ascape and a way to achieve victory. The only problem is that in order to gain the most from empi technoques one must work quite hard
  21. Guess I'll FLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or ... given the fact he is aiming at my perfect legs WITHOUT my permission beat the hell out of him Now seriously, if I'll suvive my amazement regarding this intersting way of fighting, I'll go for pressure points, punches and so on, trying to get of his way. Guess kicking would be like going into his technique. Never fought a shootfighter, so I'm only guessing here
  22. Berutoron, it depends on the style. I'll tell you about karate (Shotokan). In the lower grade test you are not suposed to free spar. The kumite you do is 5 step kumite (gohon kumite), at jodan (face) level and chudan (chest) level. It goes very simple. Block, block, block, block, block plus counter plus KIAI. Don't forget about kiai. You are not supposed to be perfect Just be confident. Don't have the attitude of a lamb near sacrifice shrine ... Stand up straight and proud (not cheeky, just with dignity ). It is important that you KNOW your tecniques and KATA. Try not to mess it up. If it happens, go as if nothing happened. Don't let a muscle on your face show you've made a mistake Sometimes it goes unnoticed and even if it is noticed, your attitude might have you pass the exam Sensei would ask you to repeat it and that's all. Be confident, perform the techniques powerful and have faith in your knowledge. It will work out just fine.
  23. Thank you for the link. Well they've lost their karategi, but they've got coloured pants and nice looking pecs. wonder where could I find something like that? Does Kamikaze or Adidas sell this?
  24. About overcoming fear I was always attracted to walk in hands, BUT I also feared having my feet up ;D I'm terrified I could fall break my neck and so on ... so guess what's my new occupation, whenever I have few seconds ... I just put my feet up, even for a second, cause I don't last too long ... and when some coleagues asked why I do this I answered I'm afraid and I do it Do you think it's crazy?
  25. Fear is a normal feeling, but it mustn't get too ... high ... Some advice for another person who felt it Try to "locate" you fear. Why are you affraid of? Ask yourself this question and try to think about it. Are you affraid of phisical "suffering"? If so, make up a set of "rules" when sparring. If in your dojo they use "harder contact" live with it or try to change it. It depends on you and on your partner. I guess learning doesn't need to get you into Intensive Care Unit Are you affraid of the "loser status"? If so try to think it's not the end of the world. Fight well, but don't look at it as if it was the end of the world. You won't lose the others respect just by losing a fight. If so, they are not worthy of you Are you affraid of it because your ego can't "chew" defeat? look at yourself really good in the mirror and value yourself for what you are. Not for the number of fights but for the person you are. About this game of losing and winning ... Guess it's easy to win in front of a weak opponent. What if you lose in front of a superior one? Should you feel bad? Guess not. Try to view all these as pure experience. Learn from everything, victory or defeat. Value your body and mind and love yourself (not in a insane way) but do it. If you don't love your person, don't expect others to do it. Try to find sparring partners that are OK. Proficient and with control. Try to achieve something wiht every session. And be calm. Enjoy it. It's like a game, you should feel good. Hope it helped even if I beated aroud the bushes... Sorry
