  1. I don't worry about it too much.
  2. I think it's all real. I'm not interested in getting involved in it though. Some of it can be borderline occultish.
  3. There are a thousand-plus ways to do everything when it comes to this. There's Dim Mak pressure points. There's also things like neck breaks, heart stopping punches, shoving the nose into the brain, temple shots, back of the head shots, mid-spine shots. There is never a set anything for lethality.
  4. I've found stepping back and lifting a knee parrallel to the attacker helps best.
  5. And here I thought that only happened in "Street Fighter" games.
  6. I've made sword sheaths for myself. I've always wanted a dull but really durable straight sword, Rapier, Iyato, and Broadsword. I got the straight sword today
  7. That is pretty freaking cool.
  8. I don't know what style you instruct, and I'm not in any way going to put it down. But to explain a point that it is possible, I will use an example of a style. Wing Chun kung-fu was designed and proven to work for situations your student may be in. However, it does not really get into techniques that I would label as "too destructive" until into the way upper ranks. I've seen Wing Chun practicioners demolish people twice their size and walk away with the other person (ultimately) being fine. Just an example. I don't expect you to take it seriously.
  9. I think it all depends on the person. Personally, I'd be able to do pretty well after the nap. But don't expect me to function too well with five hours of sleep. Health wise, I wouldn't suggest five hours of sleep. I'd suggest at least seven.
  10. I always bring my ankle weights and wrist weights with me.
  11. At least I can be confident that if I ever host a tournament, there will be no such things. Even if the students are from my school. If they do bad, they'll get a bad score and vice-versa. Martial arts politics are disgusting.
  12. I either always wear sweatpants or buy slightly loose fitting jeans for the same reason. As for shoes, they don't mess with my footwork at all.
  13. When I was in Kuk Sool Won, we had very light contact point sparring. It sucked. In Isshin-Ryu, we have semi contact with much less armor and much harder contact allowed. No shots below the belt or to the back and no throwing. Independantly, I use freestyle rules. Pretty much anything goes except shots to the nose, eyes, jaw (when there's no mouthgard), temples, front of the neck, back of the head, back of the neck, middle of the spine, and groin. Other than that. It's as hard and fast as you want to go, hit wherever you want, throws of all kinds allowed. Fights can go to the ground but not taken to the ground. Example being if someone tries a throw and both people fall, it can become a wrestling match for dominence. In that case, submissions are allowed.
  14. Mr. Epstein described the fighters as “smart guys, articulate guys, college graduates, helping in their community and making a living in the U.F.C., too.” I haven't seen one fighter like that in the time I've been watching the sport
  15. The way I see it - we can give you advice. But be sure to know that only you know how your body works. After that it can be a matter of trial and error until you find a diet that works for you. Or maybe you don't really need to do anything different at all.
  16. Can someone describe a burpee for me?
  17. I used it a lot in Kuk Sool Won. In Isshin-Ryu they discourage it. But I still use it from time-to-time.
  18. For Kuk Sool Won, In Hyuk Suh (the style's grandmaster) presents the black belt uniform at a seminar/demonstration when the time comes for them to advance.
  19. I suggest "In Da Arena" Search for "Flying Steps - In Da Arena" in an MP3 search and you'll probably find it. Look it up on YouTube first so you know what it sounds like. It's really good. I used it for my talent show in which I demonstrated nunchucks.
  20. That's a really tough question. I don't know if there ever will be. But I do believe it's possible and we don't know what the future holds. Of course, if it ever happens, we'll never really have any way of knowing for sure.
  21. I don't think Jeet Kune Do has a technique at all. It's a martial arts philosophy about simplistic training, training as an individual, and creating a style fit for the individual. A Jeet Kune Do artist won't always say that they know Jeet Kune Do. I've seen a lot of them say "My style of Jeet Kune Do..." That's how you know they understand it on a good level.
  22. I hope you enjoy posting here.
