Fighting
DeeLovesKarate replied to El Guerrero Loco's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I wish!! Everyone at my school fights a little different. Some of the higher belts will coach you when you spar with them, and some won't. Some don't want you to do certain moves on them, and some do. Fakes always work for my as life savers, except the time when I pulled a fake stomp, and it landed the wrong way. I turned my ankle, and landed on the kid I was sparring with. He was nice about it though, and didn't tease me. That's a true friens, you fall on them, and they don't get mad!! Grrrrrr, Dee -
Creating Musical Forms/Kata/Patterns?
DeeLovesKarate replied to koreantiger81's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hey, man!! I think it would be best to do it to fast music, with some theatrics mixed in, like facial expressions that say " oh, no, I'm surrounded!" At the end of the musical form, there should be a loud "kiai"., for effect. I've found that you get better reactions with the kiai. The music you chose shouldn't be too slow , but not too fast that you can't keep up with it. Something with a steady backround beat would work well, but that's just my opinion. And I've found it works best to do the moves to the music, not the lyrics, since that is extremely difficult. Hmmm.. what else?? Oh, yes, you should find out the exact criteria for your form from your sensei, just so you have something to work around. A few tips about choice of dress, as read in BB Magazine. 1. Black gi makes you look faster. 2. White gi makes you look cleaner. 3. If you want to mix, never do a black top with white bottoms, or vice versa. It will make you look squished to the floor. 4. If you have long hair, tie it back, since this can be distracting to the performer and the audience. Oh, also, flashy moves are a big crowd pleaser, and a few cartwheels and/or flips will help, if you can do them. Basic moves are okay, but make sure you aren't copying another kata by mistake, which we all tend to do once in a while. The number one most important thing is fluidity, and tecnique. Hope I've helped and not confused you too much!! Grrrrrr, Dee -
We did that at my old school. It's a pretty good idea. Grrrrr, Dee

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's 16 exclamation points, now one for luck! Grrrrr, Dee

I know, this is kind of unrelated, but I hate it when I go into the fitness stores and the guys in there follow me around just 'cause I'm a girl, or they think I'm there to steal. I was testing out some weights and equipment in Olympia, with my male friend, and they told me to put the weights down before I hurt myself. A bunch of otha people , guys mainly, were doing the same thing, and he didn't follow them around and yell at them. Grrrrrrrr, Dee

Repeat after me " Pizza, ice cream, doughnuts, pizza ice cream doughnuts." Lol. Just kidding dude. Oh, wait, you said fat, not muscle. Okay, then I repeat. " Pizza, ice cream, doughnuts, pizza ice cream doughnuts." Grrrrrrr, Dee

i think you should talk to your doctor, cause they have little charts that tell you that stuff. Also, you can go to bollingerfitness.com and find out your bmi and body fat percentage, and compare it to the norm. Grrrrrr, Dee

People look at me and go, " You're small." I dunno if I should thank them or clobber them. I may be small, but I am strong and muscular. The best thing about it, is that if u go up against someone small, then you think, oh they can't be too strong I'll go easy on 'em. WRONG!! You'll get beaten so fast. You shouldn't decide how light or hard to go until u see how light or hard they go. Otherwise, you're writing your own obituatry. Grrrrrr, Dee

Modern Medicine or Natural Medicine?
DeeLovesKarate replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in Health and Fitness
I agree. I've been on too many medications that I "may have needed" because the doctors weren't sure. I mean, don't you think, If you believe in a higher being, that he, or she, would provide us with all we need on good ol' planet earth? GRRRRRRR, DEE -
I have a question. Does soda have ANY nutritional value? I don't drink it, so I wouldn't know. Okay ummm.. facts. Oh, uh, you're supposed to rest one day after three days of intense training. Grrrrrrr, Dee

Yay! Another person who doesn't think I'm insane. Actually, only a few of my guy friends don't think I should do M.A. They're afraid I'll break a nail. Hmmmm... when I joined martial arts I was afraid of breaking my ankle ( I have weak ankles), but a nail wouldn't bother me. Lol. I bit all my nails off, and I play guitar too, so they have to be short. I brought a sports illustrated for women on a bus for a field trip, and a bunch of guys laughed at me. I read the reg. one too, I just happened to bring that one, cause I hadn't read it yet. N E way, thanks for proving I'm not insane. Grrrrrrrr, Dee

I'm not very tall ( 5' 1'' 3/4), but I can kick over my head and up to a lot of adult males heads, so I guess I make up for my height with my flexability. Grrrrrrrrr, Dee

BAD BLACK BELT!!!
DeeLovesKarate replied to DeeLovesKarate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks guys. Okay, to reply, he is definatly NOT flirting with me. It sounds like it, but if you saw him doing it, it is not flirting. It's just him being mean. I DO take advantage of his lack of focus in the sparring/teasing area, but he doesn't seem to care, as long as it doesn't make him look weak. I don't think he should have recieved his belt either, and the other black belts and people at the school notice that also. Everyone at my school is so kind and friendly it's freaky, except him. He's only gotten in trouble for missing classes, and punching me in the chest, which is a big no no at our school. The teasing isn't recognized, though. I wish he was put in his place, all the same. I will be nice to him, but in sparring, I won't go easy on him at all, if he leaves himself open, it's his fault, and my match. Grrrrrrr, Dee -
How do I put a certain black belt in his place who thinks his belt level is a ticket to belittle and mock others? I, personally, think that that is the only reason he wanted it. On one hand, he makes me so angry, but i have excellent focus in sparring, and he doesn't. Hint- when he's mocking me, he often leaves himself open due to his lack of focus and morally bankrupt personality. I have tried to be kind to him and want a subtle way to send him the message that I'm serious about martial arts so that he no longer feels he can belittle me and others. Grrrrrrrrrr, Dee

Lol. I feel the same way. If you showed some of my (girl) friends a karate movie, they'd be like, " Oh that guy doing the spinny kicky thing is cute." I'd be like, " I gotta try that kick. hmmmmm.. maybe if i get enough air off the couch, I can spin faster, while executing the kick." Maybe that's why most of my friends are guys. They don't think I'm a psyco when i say that stuff. Well, most of them. Lol. Getting air off the couch, Dee

Hours in class...
DeeLovesKarate replied to shaolinprincess's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My dojo school, or my dojo downstairs with my bags and stuff? I spend more time down there. I feel I do better in class if I practice daily for an hour or so, on my own. Grrrrrrrr, Dee -
HAIR IS MY ENEMY!!
DeeLovesKarate replied to DeeLovesKarate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Good ideas, well most of them, Wink Wink. I'll try them. Maybe I can use my chi to make my hair grow shorter, or at least all the same length. Grrrrrrrrr, Dee -
Okay, I know this is a stupid question but help me. My hair is always in my face when I do M.A. It is angled, so the the pieces in the front are shortest. I have grown it long enough to put into a pony tail, but the front pieces are too short to fit into it. I want nothing more than a boys haircut, but my dad wont let me get one short. Do any girls have this dilemma, who can, and are willing to offer up some suggestions to get this stuff out of my face?? I am willing to try nething that works, but remember, I can't chop off my hair like I want to. GRRRRRRRRRr, Dee

Uh, don't think I'm crazy, the subject title has nothing to do with the message, it's just to attract attention and, hopefully, replies. Does anyone here feel insane? I do. I am hopelessly obsessed with martial arts. My friend whom I suggested sign up, signed up and I want to talk about karate with him. He's been there for a year, a little less than half my time, and really doesn't talk about it as much as I want to. Anyone here have friends who just don't undertand your obsession with karate? I don't know why, I find the dojo exciting, I save magazine articles if they even mention Martial arts, I create collages with pics. I cut out of the Century catalouges, watch all karate t.v. shows. Have a lot of clipouts from the paper about karate, and, if you look in my bookmarked sites, about 80% of them are karate sights. Ne one share my obession? I need someone who doesn't think I'm insane to reply. I hate seeing 80 views and no replys. Please, any reply. Reply now or forever hold a steaming pizza on your head...wait, thats not right. Uh.. neva mind, just reply. Grrrrrrrrr, Dee

how do you become a ninja??
DeeLovesKarate replied to ZeRo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What is a ninja?? Who wants to be one?? I'm so confused. For some reason, I'm getting a visual of a power ranger or a Teenage Muatant Ninja Turtles. LOL. You made me laugh. Thanks, Dee -
Does Anyone else feel like this?
DeeLovesKarate replied to DeeLovesKarate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
