http://video.google.pl/videoplay?docid=7802397296848793215&q=malaysian+martial+arts The above training methods are really brutal. I believe this must be one of the toughest styles to stick to. When we complain about too many press ups, that kick was too hard, remember the conditioning these guys & girls go through. I will never complain again whilst training if i possibly can, i will use this video as a reminder of how hard real conditioning is. Interesting find this and i wanted to share it with the martial arts community!!

Our sifus wife trains with us from time to time. She has great technique and us blokes know we have to be on our game when we train with her, or we get chinned LOL.

That is classed as freestyle karate in the Uk. I have fought in tournaments like this when i was younger and the level of contact is minimal. A lot of Lau gar clubs in the Uk go in these competitions but it is not for me. Someone described it as tag and in a sense it is. Anyone who practices kick boxing will see that the video has been titled incorrectly as kick boxing does not score that way. It is continuous fighting not stop start as these fighters are doing in the video. Its their choice to fight this way and good luck to them. I agree also that they employ some interesting moves and you can see they enjoy what they do.

If i spar someone shorter than myself, i can generally keep them at bay with jabs. When i spar someone the same height it tends to be more physical, more rough and tumble. I cannot say i prefer to fight short or tall, as all people bring different skills to the game. Never underestimate anyones size as a few lads in our club are shorter but their speed is greater than mine , and they have big hearts. Its the individuals skills that matter not size

Trouble Sparring Small Childre... please help
stejitsu replied to Eric7_27's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Training with children has to be a controlled atmosphere filled with fun activities. When the time to spar comes you should encourage them to hit you. Whilst doing this a few very light taps to liven them up isn't such a bad thing, as long as total control and trust by the child is evident. A frightened child is not a healthy training ethos. -
My wife started training at a club i used to goto and got pregnant, she had to leave. At our club one of the lads married a fellow student, she got pregnant, so she had to stop training. Our instructors wife got pregnant she had to leave, assistant instructors wife got pregnant she had to leave(gasping for breath). Can you see where this is leading -LOL- maybe our club is a breeding ground for elite dragons of the future. Since all this as happened though my wife wont go 100 feet of a martial arts class so maybe a good thing for me

I would go for Goju. Very fast to the point Okinawan style that like to come out tops. I used to train regular with a Goju school and loved it. I remember one session i had a reverse punch into my stomach, it was a sickener. Next day there was a bruise on my stomach the size of a fist!!!! As for the grappling part, we did ground stuff in it so i would recommend over the other martial arts. This is not taking the other arts lightly, all have their own great points too!

Traditional Shotokan Striking in UFC
stejitsu replied to juey palancu's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
I did not see much of the 'Master Funakoshi'' traditional shotokan going on in there! I seen the heart of the tiger though. Not taking anything away from the guy he is a tough cookie. He trains hard and it shows in his MMA fights. Probably started in 'Shotokan' and likes to acknowledge this as a sign of respect for karate which got him into martial arts. Good vid -
I would not like to see the results on a human body. You probably could, and would be serving a long time in jail

New to sparring-I need some crucial pointers and tips
stejitsu replied to Jkoko's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Good basic 'bread and butter' combinations are best. Jab cross, roundhouse kick. Practice this for 3 months solid and then move on to another combination. In times of stress in competition you will call upon your most tested combination and it will natural for you. Good luck -
Hearty welcome, never tried a back flip i would probably knock myself out LOL
-
MMA clubs deal with lots of angles of combat and gives you a base level of skills you can call upon. The key thing is go along to a few and compare them. Select which one is suited to you, then off you go into a world of sweat and tears and above all a lifetime of enjoyment. Good luck in your search

I would use anything i could do humanely possible. If it meant dragging the person off me via pulling the hair that is the course of action i would take. Fingers in the eyes up the nose, fish hooking , kicks to groin. In a fight the attacker wants to hurt you, hurt them hard with short decisive movements. If you can grasp pile of 'dirt' on the floor shove it in their face, then exit when the opportunity arises. What is a cheap shot whilst defending yourself, i don't believe there are any.

should you punch first?
stejitsu replied to little kicker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is my thought exactly. It may be a real quick punch, or worse, it may come from behind, where you can't see it. That idea is quite dangerous really. Waiting for the wind up or lack of it may get you badly beaten up or killed!!!!!!!! If they surrounded you, they are likely to kick off. This is a pack mentality one starts they all jump in. If you take the first move it may diffuse the situation if not you may just end up picking your teeth off the floor. If you do attack total commitment and mayhem is the order of the day. Have you ever in sparring session tried to defend on yr back foot retrieating. Not an easy situation to deal with. An old school Jiu jitsu sensie who has sadly deceased 'Mike Walsh' had a saying......First in First served.......This was a bold statement backed up by a man who had been involved in various security and body gaurding duties. He was a great man. -
should you punch first?
stejitsu replied to little kicker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If i think a situation is arising , i avoid. If its to do with my family and it develops in my view and i see my chance i sort it out. Dont let yourself be seen as an easy touch, whilst i say this do not be a bully either. I once read somewhere that people who are attacked are more likely to resemble a victim. If you stand strong people generally keep away, its always a tough call. -
need some self defense ideas
stejitsu replied to little kicker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
One of our best self defense reactions is to have our 'wits' about us. I have to agree whole heartedly about all the comments, already made. You need to break this cycle of abuse, its not healthy and you shouldn't have to put up with this any longer. On a note of techniques you could have in your arsenal if things could possably get worse are scratching eyes/thumbs in eyes, no form just get yr fingers stuck in squeezing mens groin are as hard as you can stamping down shins/kicking shins groin kicks knee kicks to groin slap to groin football kick to groin These are show stoppers OR could give you that vital second to escape. That 1 second maybe all the chance you have, take it and exit. -
Traditional Shotokan Striking in UFC

I look foreword to this fight making on to 'you Tube' When it does i will watch it with enthusiasm . If already available could someone post the address on here for us all to see plz? cheers -
I too prefer the idea of modern weaponry's being used in today's training halls. What we consider 'traditional weapons' of martial arts for eg.. Katana jo Bo sai.....etc They would have been state of art 'weaponry' in their time. Focus on modern day 'hand to hand' weaponry in our self defense/martial art classess that may help us to survive the modern threats of 'stabbing/clubbing' related crimes. I can see there is a place for traditional weaponry skills but these are mostly for tradition. Keep these things alive as without, our martial arts history would be empty without it. Imagine if there were no stories to read of 'samurai' in battle or the assassin ninja going about his business with his throwing stars and smoke bombs !!

I see what you mean ninjer. There is a hypnotist called 'Paul Mc'enna who does similair things like this. Would anyone agree that it could be another form of hypnotism, or mind suggestion? The point that got me was the 'toe up-toe down' remark.

In my post you see i have worded ''Considered to be one of the most informed'' on this subject. I am neither going to slander or endorse this mans work as i do not know his findings or work on a personal level. I was inputting what i have read in books and he seemed to be the man , who has worked in this field for years. Apart from that i am not affiliated in any way to Mr Dillmans work. Whilst on the subject are his idea's not too dissimilar to sensie ueshibas work when he founded Aikido. The energy of chi? I may be off the point here but this is an interesting thread and i hope it gets more replies.
