  1. well in my dojangs we pretty much "feel out who can do what type of training and who can take what abuse...in other words there are students who have a good attitude and know this is not ballet they are studying and there are others who cry and whine over every little thing..now because we want to stay open and be able to pay the rent we have to pamper some individuals while at the same time providing hard core training to the others..if i had a choice i would kick these grown up babies out in a heart beat but bills are a reality..and more heads mean more bills paid...I still have a hard time ajusting to this and many of these guys do leave early when they know i will be teaching the next class...Im sure it is the same in many other dojangs..we learn who we can smack around a little bit and who we can only tap
  2. jumping back kick is one of my trademark kicks...i especially like drawing my opppoent in by sliding or skipping back on his attack then when he feels hes got me and is commited i jump spin and kick on the move(surprise!!! by the way how does your spleen taste?)
  3. I agree with wearing the stripes at formal events such as testing, demonstrations, e.t.c...and i have respect for those individuals that i know deserve to wear them but if Im just meeting you I just take the belt at face value and let your actions and the way you carry yourself determine if you have the "right stuff"
  4. I enjoyed it..it was a little long, but iam a big fan of sci fi.also to pat you might want to check it out while its out ..the speilberg movies dont usally go to video for at least a year after release..now just as a side imagine having one of these robots that can learn a martial arts system in minutes? just progarm them..I think that would make for a good martial arts movie ..instead of the usual one man army flicks in which the hero takes on the mob or the terrorist..you ever notice on the coming attractions there is always the annoncer saying "and only one man can stop them?"
  5. I used to train with some seals while I was in the navy..I was at portsmouth naval base in virginia from 1988 to 1990 and was one of the bases physical fitness drill instructors...these guys were often imitated or impersonated...but the real deal guys were no joke...theres alot of guys out there saying they are or used to be seals..be wary and keep in mind they(the U.S. Navy Seals) also have ther own code..a real seal would not be walking around bragging to everyone about Im a real life rambo..I have also had a lot of brutal workouts in my day but i will never forget the qualification test for budsmen school. I took about a week to recover and to these guys it was just a warm up.. i passsed but I had to join on for another six year tour if I wanted to become a member..anyway what I really want to point out is that the level of skill and discipline are for real with team members and not the stuff of movies and barroom stories..these guys deserve alot of respect
  6. im not familiar with san shou what is this?
  7. we do both the taeguek and the older hyungs in our schools...I dont like any of the first seven tegueks but they start feeling nice when you go into the black belt forms..but i really enjoy the older hyungs ..chon ji , tae guek won yo..e.tc. especially hwa rang and kwang gae and kae baek..I get totally lossed when doing these forms im in another world.
  8. you guys are killing me here lOL
  9. I totally agree with you, I also dont wear any stripes..I believe there just for show..if you havent yet please check out my "fries with that" posting it relates directly with your question
  10. it is a system used more so by the north korean military it is a hybird of taekwondo hapkido and kuk sool won..from what i have read its more of a "system" than a traditional martial art...there is a club at yahoo for this system..i havent visited it in a while due to lack of activity on the site..
  11. it may be hard to find it came out about twenty six years or probably more..he made this movie at a time he was training with bruce lee...
  12. I like to check with the front leg ...that is to fake a kick like a side with the front leg and then swicth at the last second drawing a reaction such as a opponent sliding back and trying to block or evade the initial attack only to be caught with the full impact of the rear leg attack which is also using the foward momentum to add speed and force to the kick.
  13. dont these guys train with billy blanks and shaquel oneal?how about "aw i broke a fingernail "system..also only $19.95 .....but wait theres more if you act now we will throw in a package of fake tattoo scars...operaters are standing by call 1800 IM AN IDIOT!
  14. i will be recomending this site to my friends..wow i just realized what time it is ..good night gotta train in the morning peace out!!
  15. i am javier l rosario..my specialty is taekwon do and hapkido..i teach in the new york metropolitan area on long island at AMERICAN TAEKWONDO CENTER in brentwood and also WORLD TAEKWONDO in central islip..I have been a martial artist since 1979..while i enjoy sport taekwondo and train and coach in it..I really stay focused on "practical taekwondo"those of you on the circiut out there may know of me or my master Atef S Himaya. thank you for the welcome..so far i have found this site to be more interesting than other sites wher you have people trying to be modern day buddist monks ..quoting "the art of war" all day long this has been refreshing over here..again thank you...............
  16. on another note a sport that is really hot and that millions watch everyday..professional wrestling..now knowing that thes guy arent actually trying to kill each other..that they are just doing choreographed fights would not make me feel any more comfortable if i were for some reason forced to fight one of these guys..i am also honest enough to admit that i would probably set some kind of land speed record running away from some guy like stone cold steve austin or the rock..just because there playing in a "sport" doesnt mean they cant kill you in a real match..
  17. when discussing the effectiveness of martial arts why do we always say street...it is far more than likely that you will encounter a "problem" in many other places..in your own home..by a relative(maybe your mother in law trying to take your head off with a frying pan..)in a shopping mall..in a movie theater...in a night club (of course..some people feel that when they are drunk its okay to punch someone in the face that may have given one a look)in a park..I have never been in or witnessed a "STREET FIGHT" it is really a matter of statistics that any fight will occur indoors in places you would probably not imagine...I was once attacked by a jealous marine while sitting in a phone booth in a officers club ...talk about reaching out an touching someone...he hit me really hard and i think the only reason i wasnt knocked out was that i was in shock that someone would just walk up and clip me while i was on the phone...needless to say i touched him back only his call was disconnected..
  18. that was actually chris penn, seans brother...yeah he was a tough bastard..philip is an amazing martial artist i surprised he doesnt have more movies..the story lines were really weak in the best of the best seires but the action sequences were nice...master rhee (jhoon rhee) is the father of modern taekwondo in america ...i dont believe he had any involment in the best of the best you may have meant hee ill cho now this guy is nice!!he is also one of the pioneers of taekwondo in america..these kinds of instructors are the old school...i came up with this type of training before taekwon do became so watered down ..if you want to check out a movie by master rhee check out "when taekwondo strikes"
  19. THIS IS ALSO ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT HURTS OUR PROGRESS IN MARTIAL ARTS...NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE DIFFERENCES WITH OTHER MARTIAL ARTS STYLES BUT WITHIN OUR OWN ORGANIZATIONS!!! SO MUCH DEBATING AND POLITICS INVOLVED. WE ARE ALL MARTIAL ARTIST "CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?"
  20. one of the reasons thaiboxerken, that you may be having trouble finding impressive taekwondo practioners .is that you are running into the type of practioners that i mention in "fries with that" post..also please be openminded and realize that it is probably happening with alot of martial arts branches including thai boxing.....
  21. what is the rush to get more degrees on your belt today? notice a increase in "masters" these days, much more how about"black belts" ? this is one of the many things hurting the credibility of not only taekwon do but all martial arts today. with out getting into another verbal sparring match over taekwondo not being "effective" in a "real live ,gosh darn its a sreet fight martha!!!"..what about looking for real ligitimate black belts and "masters" ...it seems to me these days that you can just order any belt or rank you want these days...example...i ran into a friend of mine who i hadnt trained with for a few years..last time i saw him we were both 3rd dan..now hes got six stripes and his students are calling him "master" i inquire how he got ahead so fast in a tacful manner (although i felt like asking who he had to pay) but i found that out anyway...turns out there is some association that amazingly enough is affiliated with the kukkiwon that has you do your requirements for rank on video...you then send it to them and they (the masters behind the scenes) they review it then they send you your certificate in the mail> bam!!! you are now a master now go and open a school and make lots of money!!! whats next..drive thru? "yeah I got a coupon, can i get a 7th dan hold the pickle"..this is the type of things that makes us look bad..this "master" will get his clock cleaned by some of my red belts....has anyone heard any similar stories?
  22. im sorry but i had to laugh at the thought of seeing that live (no disrespect intended) but i could picture this guy standing there upper lip quivering trying to hold it in ...then bawhahaha....he must have been thinking to himself, why the hell did i do that and sammy sosa can kiss my @*&!!!!
