Are demonstrations like these effective?
AT replied to topkicknow's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
aw i wanted to watch. -
infact since you are from the UK, you might want to try directly from the production company. http://www.legendtv.co.uk/ dunno if it's going to be any cheaper though.

You can find them at amazon.com

man...so dissapointing. Turns out Bobby Lowe is retiring and doesn't hold classes. I don't know of any where else that teaches kyokushin karate where i'm from.

lol martial law...sammo hung...i haven't seen that show in years. I don't think they show it here anymore. The closest thing to a martial arts tv show that I've seen in the past couple of years is Walker Texas Ranger

hey, i was lookin at the ISAMI website, and I noticed that some of the belts that they sell says "(Thick Core)"......what does thick core mean? Is it wider than the regular ones? or thicker? or something else?

A question of weight and mabye something else
AT replied to Jeet Kune Do's topic in Health and Fitness
wow... a mix of you and me would be perfect lol. I'm 6'1 and 255 lbs... i need to lose about 75 lbs. Me being an overweight person finds it so odd that there are other people out there that have trouble GAINING weight. -
BTW have you guys seen this vid? that vid and the highlight of "Ryu Narushima" kinda makes me want to take kyokushin karate now heh. Too bad there's only one school anywhere near me and it's still kinda far.
-
wow what a supportive group. It really puts my mind at ease knowing that there are/were people who were in the same situation. I guess the only thing left for me to do is to go out and look for a style that I really want to learn and find a good teacher to learn from. Thanks all.

hrrm. I checked for local Kyokushin dojos and found that there's only one dojo that teaches Kyokushin style of karate. However the shihan of this dojo is Bobby Lowe.... supposedly he's one of the higher ups in the IKO1 world eh?

Hello. I took karate when I was 7 till about 12 and made it to brown belt but failed the shodan test like 3 times. After that i quit so i could have more time to play videogames on the weekends lol. Hadn't done any MA since then. Today i totally regret quitting. I'm 24 now and am 6'1, 260lbs. I wanted to get back into Karate or maybe Taekwondo since i liked doing kicks as a kid and still kinda do. Do any of you think it's still possible for someone as overweight as me to get back into MA? Or would it be better if i tried traditional methods of losing weight first and then maybe joining a karate school. Thoughts? Edit: Sorry i had initially posted this in the "Karate" forum but i guess it shoulda just gone here.
