  1. One way to get cheap health insurance, if you can't get it through work, is to take a class at a college or university.
  2. As to push ups being physical abuse, do what my instructor does. Early on when I started back i was in a class with two children and another adult. The kids got giggly and after the second time the intructor warned them he looked at us, the two adults, and said "Sorry about this guys" and gave everybody pushups.
  3. Get the book "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and read it cover to cover. Your first reaction will probably be "I can't eat like that" but if you follow what he says for 6 weeks you willl lose weight. If nothing else if you follow his formula you'll be a hell of alot healthier and you'll learn things you never knew. Working at 80% of your target cardio rate is more fat burning as someone said so karate may be better than kickboxing for your goal.
  4. You might want to Google in your area for MA clubs and public recreation programs such as YMCA. This hould expand your options beyond commercial dojos.
  5. I've been using Yahoo TV listings to search for TV programs featuring karate or any like martial arts but I only find stuff at 1:00 am that turns out to be kick boxing and more like UFC than karate. It even failed to find the world championship in Thailand that I stumbled upon channel surfing. Anyway, does anyone know where to find karate-related TV/cable shows? I know there is stuff on the web, but I'm specifically interested in TV or cable shows. Also our cable company doesn't carry Blackbelt TV so that's not an option. Thanks.
  6. Interresting device but a little more pricey than I think I'm willing to go, especially since I don't have a bag.. I was also thinking more of something using re-breakable boards and the device doesn't seem to even include that for the price. I think I might try to make something but I what I have in mind is a bit different from that device. Thanks.
  7. I want to practice breaking at home. Specifically using kicks. I thought about getting a rebreakable board but about the only one I could ask to hold it would be my wife and she would probably refuse to do it ever again the first time I missed... Any other options for practice or a substitute for a human holder?

  10. I'm glad to see this topic. As someone who is on immuno suppressants for arthritis, I cringed when my instructor said that he thought he was getting the flu. Sure enough about a week later he was out. Luckily I got a flu shot even though I had to pay for it myself.
