  1. Hello Gold weave is without doubt the better Gi. K4J4
  2. Hello Truthseeker I am originally from Bergen in Norway, that explains my name Kaja, but now live and train in England. I am sorry, my parents will not let me go into more detail than that. I saw the same question posted by you on the SFUK forum. Kaja
  3. Hello There are only two guards - open and closed. Everything else is a variation. One that nobody has mentioned is the triangle guard. This is a very tight position that is only possible for those with longish legs against those with smallish waists but if you get it it is very difficult to pass. Just imagine a triangle choke but around the waist. Does the half guard count as a guard? It is not a position I would choose from the bottom but it does happen a lot. I've been working submissions from there recently both from the top and the bottom. We also work the far open guard. This is nothing more than one person standing and one on the their back. Even if the person standing is 10m away, if they cannot get around your legs then they are still technically in your guard. This is where we work "stand up in base" and other things like how to kick without losing position. Yes.... they sure do K4JA [ This Message was edited by: K4j4 S1n1s on 2002-08-03 09:01 ]
  4. Hello Truthseeker Striking whilst moving forwards and backwards. And downwards (sprawling) Getting in at the right moment when my opponent is vulnerable like when he is recovering from a strike or shoot. Controlling the tie up and clinch. Hitting from the clinch. Both attached and unattached hitting. Staying in control before, during and after the takedown. Keeping a dominant position on the ground. Relaxing and taking my time. Letting the opponent show me how to beat him or her. Keeping a good base and not leaving myself open to being reversed when I am hitting on the ground. Mobile hips and good use of my legs if I get pinned. Using good set ups and learning to use submissions in combination so that the counter to one leads me to another. These are things I am working on. K4J4
  5. Hello People here seem to like Hunter and Gameness shorts. We get them from http://www.mmagear.com which is a great website based in Brazil. They usually have an offer on where the postage worldwide is free. My Instructor has an account with them so we get things cheaper. K4J4
  6. Hello Submissionfighter What is your best way to take the back from the guard? I find it very difficult because I am not very big. I find it hard to reach around to get a grip to pull myself around with. K4J4
  7. Hello forum I learned two new ways to do the Kimura this week. They both work from the half guard. One from the bottom and one from the top. They will take some practice but I like them. I especially like the one from the top as the only reliable counter is to open your legs to get a good base. This means the person on top gets the mount. K4JA
  8. Hi forum I asked my teacher and he said these are average times for someone training regularly. Blue belt... 18 months to 2 years Purple... 2 years after blue Brown... 3 years after purple Black... 4 years after brown K4J4
  9. The Brazilians named the lock the "Kimura" because it was the lock that Kimura used to defeat Helio Gracie in their epic fight. Kimura was quite impressed with Helio & his BJJ though. Impressed enough to invite him to the Budokan to teach! The move can also be done from these positions (I'm sure there are more but these are the ones that I know) From Side mount From North and south From the scarf hold (using your legs) From the guard using your legs (called omaplata) K4J4 [ This Message was edited by: K4j4 S1n1s on 2002-07-22 20:07 ]
  10. Hello three60roundhouse The way I was taught is to hold my opponent real close and wrap up one arm and keep my head to the side of that arm. I will describe using my left arm around their right and my head at their right side of face. This leaves them one arm free which is away from my head and so cannot be used for hitting much. This would be their left arm in this case. Then you loosen your grip on their arm and head so that they try to pull it out and sit up. This gives the opportunity to grab the wrist as they sit back and pin their wrist to your left hip. From here you can put your right foot on the floor & sit up across to the left and hook your right arm over their right arm to go for the Kimura. If it fails you can still do the chest to chest sweep. Another set up we do is to pull them towards us strongly with our hips. This can make them put out their hands for balance. Grab a wrist and follow it back as they regain their base. This is more the sort of thing an attacker on the street will do. One more place I get the kimura from is when they try to escape a triangle by pushing the arm and shoulder though or by pushing the arm around to their side. You should work finishing from your guard a lot three60roundhouse as if the worst happens and you get sexually assaulted then it is almost certainly a place the attacker will try to get to. Females tend to shy away from guard work but it is so important. K4J4
  11. Hello I like the Kimura from the guard. My small size means I end up using the guard a lot and also if I get assaulted that's probably where I will end up so I work it a lot. K4J4
  12. These chokes are very safe if done by a person who knows them well. They do not shut off blood to the brain. They close veins and so stop blood from leaving the brain. You cannot close an artery with your arm. An artery has a very strong wall. These chokes work by squeezing on the veins which have a weak wall and so close easily. K4J4
  13. Thank you so much Yoda. The charts make a lot of sense to me and are well worth the waiting. As for the other matter, it's a done deal. I know exactly where you are coming from. Thank you again, I know you will see this (Hehe) K4J4

  15. I don't have any! Well not that you would notice.
  16. Thank you so much Punchdrunk. Just to clarify... I wrap my arm around theirs in which direction? If I am wrapping my right arm around their left do I go clockwise or the opposite? K4J4
  17. Waiter - one large portion of sour grapes, table 4 please!
  18. Hello forum I have a problem in my BJJ class. I am not that experienced yet and keep getting caught in the same move. When I get put in the guard I can do ok and sometimes pass the guard but some people grab inside my lapel with a cross grip. For example they grab inside my right lapel with their right hand. when this happens I always end up getting choked by them getting the other hand on the other lapel. What can I do to stop this from happening. I have tried what I have been told to do which is keep their hands in control by grabbing their biceps but then I can't pass the guard. I would be very greatful for any advice on this. K4J4
  19. That's an interesting idea Spinningumby. The problem is that by running back to my car I would be in my training gear & sweaty. No fit state to go back to work. I could try that at the weekend but I have more time then anyway. I have tried a few of the ideas here over the last few weeks and have settled on a 5 minute warm up on the bike then about an hour on the weights and then 25 minutes cardio. It seems to be going ok but if and when it starts to get boring I will change it around I think. Thank you for the input and ideas. K4J4
  20. Pleeeeease. I really do want to see these flowcharts K4J4
  21. Hello These flowcharts sound very interesting but I can't see them. YODA, are they still there? Do I need to turn something on to see them? K4J4
  22. Pretty much the response I expected. Physical, always the physical. Don't you realise there is so much more? By the way I'm quoting someone. I didn't write that. I appologise for that. I'll edit my original to reflect that. K4J4
  23. Hello forum Matt Thornton wrote... YOU, the "I" that is (your name here). . is what? You say "I" am attractive "I" am smart "I" am this "I" am that etc. . In comparison to what? You must evaluate yourself against something in order to define yourself. If you ceased that evaluation only for a MOMENT. Just a brief SECOND. . .then , you would see that "YOU" create time, which is movement, which is thought. There is NO "reality" without "YOU" No OBSERVED without an OBSERVER. No "world" "reality" "nature" without. . .YOU! So you say. . ..that's bullshit. Reality is just my "thought". What crap! In other words. . .if a tree falls in the woods. . .and nobody is there to here it. No "YOU", no "MY NAME HERE", it still makes noise, right? Wrong. It only becomes noise when it's 'vibrations' reach "YOUR" ear and become sound. Falling rocks are NOISY because of YOUR ears. Things are HEAVY only when compared to YOUR muscles. Things are HARD only when YOU touches them. Flowers smell good only when the YOU smells them. Light is LIGHT only when it reaches YOUR eyes. With NO YOU there is NO sound, smell, weight, texture, or light. If I say to you. . . A) When you die you will forget your memory of "your" life, and be re-born as a new baby. Would you believe me? Please ask yourself. . .would you believe me? I say this because I now think I can prove it is so. If I say to you. . . B) When you die, all of "your" memory will completely cease, and a baby will be born. Is that true? You know it is so! That is a reality. YOU will die, and somewhere a baby will be born that knows none of your memories. Now I ask you this. . . .please follow along . . .I know you ARE......... smart. . .so please follow along. If that above stated sentence is so. . .if YOU will die, and babies will born that do not know YOUR memory. . . . . THEN WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO???? Between A and B? When you see that you will see that YOU live forever. K4J4 [ This Message was edited by: K4j4 S1n1s on 2002-06-17 02:53 ]
  24. Losing 75lbs in such a short time is very possible. Very possible if you currently weigh about 300lbs at about 5 foot 10 that is. Trying to drop half your bodyweight in that time is just plain dumb. K4J4
  25. Hello forum There are some good points there. Running to the gym would certainly get me in shape. It's about 8 miles each way. I don't think so. K4J4
