White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Hello everyone! I'm from Tennessee, and an avid martial arts fan. My fiance is a martial artist, so I started studying a few years ago to keep from getting hurt while being his uke! I study kenpo and tai chi. Just a purple belt in kenpo, but learning more every day. I'm looking forward to learning from all of you.
  2. Shotokan-kez: I am finally at a point of wanting to quit smoking (again). I easily quit when I was pregnant with my first child, without nary a thought of falling off the wagon. So I know it can be done... still wondering why I started back after 4 years! Any words of wisdom, tricks, warnings?
  3. I find that self talk is one of the most important contributors to success or failure in any endeavor. If I doubt myself, or allow someone else's doubt to influence me... it's very difficult to be successful. Doesn't matter if I'm talking about performing a newly learned kata, sparring, doing a presentation at work, or winning someone over to my point of view. Personal and professional development books always talk about surrounding yourself with supportive, successful people; people you want to grow up to be like. And yes, the people you surround yourself with can influence the outcome of your efforts. BUT, the person you spend the most time with is yourself. Your self talk can be effective if it is positive and focused, and extremely powerful. We are the outward manifestations of our inward musings.
