I've heard cat stance started as a block to a knife to the stomach. Anyone else hear that?

getting into trouble in school isn't neccialrly a "bad" thing, either, though. If you get into trouble for fighting when you didn't start the fight, I would say, your school sucks, but this builds character. It's way better to get into trouble for defending yourself than to be a "good kid" and get your face punched, or arm broken...some blocks are dangerous

I don't really have an opinion as to whaty color it should be, but mine is white, so i think i'll stick with that. although i do like the white jacket with black pants look. I think black tops kind of are too much like pajamas, so I would reserve that for Ninjutsu

the only thing I think I can add: training in only kata, or only sparing/live feed back is actualy dangerous, because isolated, i think it would give a sense of knowing what's coming, if you used the same partner always/only did kata.

Shodan just means beginner, or first, or something to that effect. Heian Shodan means "First Step" or something similar to that. Also, the analogy that a black belt is the "beginning" is why the title of Shodan is given. Oh.. Thanks Shodan actually means first level. Sho = first, dan= level Heian Shodan means "peaceful mind, level 1" This makes very much sense, thank you. I still have one question though. Sho=first when begining something, but not when counting? First in counting would be ichiban, right?

I think the most often forgoten thing about the backfist is that it is not a slap, it is a precision blow to the temple with the first two knuckles

I'd pull in the parking lot and go get something and then act like I was looking for the right CD or whatever then follow them out of parking lot for a while to see where they went. Or if they got loud , call the police in the parking lot. If he said/did something I thought was out of line, I would intervere on behalf of the woman in dis-stress

well said there are a few speciffically christian dojos, so I would avoid them. However, here is the answer: Its okay. I'm a Buddhist and I practice Martial Arts and became a Buddhist at an in between training point. I am still a white belt. I don't test untill next month.

well, based on that, I'd have to say BJJ because I've seen that used in a fight but not judo. However, I'd be willing to bet they are similar. ju/jiu - do/jitsu .
