  1. Sparring system, no strikes to the head, no elbows, no backfists, non contact(though there is, in practice, plenty of contact anyway...). If that's what you ment. We do pretty much everything you can imagine on pads.... yea, pads are quite cool . We have small round ones and huge rectangle ones, and then there is this punch bag we use from time to time to do kicks also.

  3. My TSD trainings? I train twice a week, am highly addicted in some point and get alot out of my trainings. Our club is with the WTSDA. We practise hand, foot and defence techniques, sparring, step-sparring, hyungs, and combination techniques. We also do warming up (well yea), and we also kick paddings. I suppose my post is rather obvious and lacks detail. Anyway.. Cheers, - Myth
  4. Usually a martial art makes you less agressive. Agressive is often being discribed as something bad. Thus.., I like the post I quoted above. Just be more impersonating. Real aggression might not help, due to it being a loss of self control, which again can cause self harm. Correct me if I'm wrong, I might actually be wrong here, but ah, it's a reply anyways. Thank you, - Myth
  5. Someone might have already said this, but you can try do to serveral strikes (e.g. 3) quickly after eachother. Though your opponent will quite likely block the first attack, he might not have time to block the other attacks that quickly. Well, that's just what I've been told, just doing many attacks in rows, I tried it a few times, but I just don't know all my techniques that well yet to peform all of them quickly, so it becomes more of the same. 6. Hi, Pretty soon, in two weeks, there will be a Tang Soo Do championship and the grandmaster of the WTSDA will be there. I will be there also, participating in sparring. Actually, this will be my very first tournament, advice is welcome. As this is a open/public championship there are people coming all the way from everywere in Europe, mainly because the grandmaster is there, he's respected quite a bit, and, I suppose, not for nothing. Tang Soo Do is quite 'rare' in some way, but will anyone from these forums be there? And advice on sparring is welcome. Thanks, - Myth
  7. Hi, Our club is member of the WTSDA, however tournaments are with point sparring I don't notice anything un-traditional about the lessons. The lessons are, probably, still depended on the instructor. I posted, - Myth
  8. No, it's not martial arts. I wonder where to find such a gym teacher, I might ask my P.E. teacher when school starts again. (Yes I'm still at school , 15)
  9. Sorry for the lack of a better title, but I'm refering to things like this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3381293275323820576&q=martial+art The combination of the jumps here really impresse me, and mainly, the infinite amount of summersaults and 'continues handstand motion'. Also I have never REALLY seen someone do this... it's not common, is it? I really wonder, how could I get started to learn something like that? Thank You , - Myth (My apologies if this was in the wrong section due to not directly being related to martial arts)
  10. (I ment "when it comes down to one", error in my post..) What are the main diffrences?
  11. It's very nice to hear that you are glad to have me here, I'll stick around. Anyway, I won't decide yet, which is obvious as my new schoolyear starts within 2 weeks and then also my Tang Soo Do trainings continue again, so I'll so how I'll cope with everything really. Yes, my instructor just can't stress that enough, that we should practise at home, and as a matter of fact, I do all the time. I'm obessed in some way. However with Judo, I would need to practise techniques on other people, it's not like I'll find any volunteers in my home/family, however this probably doesn't matter too much. Thanks everyone!
  12. Okay, I think the confusion part is quite completly out when I take for instance judo, as it is mostly grappling. And also I really wonder my instructor's view, as many people practising TSD used to practised judo first and then switched to TSD. And they have negative views on it mostly, probably they'd find it very strange that I would do judo... Also judo, for as far as I know, won't provide more on the karate part, but at least, it would help on ground fights. Which is actually what I miss in Tang Soo Do, TSD is great without it, but I'm not
  13. Judo is effective on-ground, really? Maybe it's just because my last few Judo trainings were introduction lessons when I was 10(or so), those lessons were lame and really not serious enough for me. When I come to think of it, it was really just the instructor who did something wrong and focused the training on, perhaps, 3 year olds. I tend to like serious trainings more, they are fun, but just not silly. But okay, that might be a wrong view, but I heard the same thing from a friend of mine who trained Judo within my area (at the same sport school where I do Tang Soo Do, that location is obviously an advantage). It remains difficult . And yes I can always quit, but that is of course a waste of the things you bought for it, e.g. suit.
  14. Thanks! I'll try the push ups. One of his instuctors told me when he drops his hands when we're sparring to hit him off the top of his head. I'm not sure if I agree with that one though. I most definatly wouldn't agree with that one. It's just mean instead of helpfull and doesn't help neither you or him.
  15. I'm young, new to martial arts even, and no, haven't used any techniques in a fight, I don't get into fights really. But when it came down to one... I wonder if it isn't a bit like sparring? Okay, sparring 'goes slower', when people fight it tends be over pretty soon.
  16. To my own suprise I rather often throw a defense if someone hits me (even is just for fun) and they end up startled (no just a small amount of people ends up that way, others just didn't hit me and retry). I agree that action beats reaction, but still I will never be first to strike, not at all. I just can't strike without a good reason, my mind won't let me. Non physical reasons are fine also though
  17. I think that move would pretty cool if he didn't fall over! I want to be able to do backflips really... but ending up this way just isn't motivating!
  18. Hi, So... I found these forums! For as far as my martial art goes, I practise Tang Soo Do, am currently orange-white belt and looking into practising an additional martial art. Cheers, - Myth
  19. Kenjutsu? Is that something like aikido? Also... what other martial art would it be? I suppose something that is not the same so I have a greater variety? Maybe something for on-ground (is that what they call grappling in english?) ? Too many choices And I sure do enjoy TSD, though currently there is summer break . Training is soon to start again however.
  20. So many styles, 16 years old, and 50kg?
  21. Sohan, seems like you managed to get yourself (and others, way to go!)out of unlucky situations in a pretty nice way. Name: Daniël Titles: none yet, but I will do my first competitions in september. Height: - Weight: 60kg Current Age: 15 Style: Tang Soo Do Favorite Technique (currently...): Double Jumped Job Cha Ki (thus a Job Cha Ki followed by a Dwi Job Cha Ki). Sorry for not knowing the correct spelling!
  22. Hi, Only since 2 years ago I started practising a korean martial art style, Tang Soo Do. I did this after my friend invited me to come along and join in for a few introduction lessions, it was difficult at first to get the hang of things, balance was the main issue, if not stretchability. But now I'm doing fine really, I completly love it. It's a 30 min cycle there, which I also love actually, though the way back can be a bit exhausting depending on how the training was . So, I love to be practising Tang So Do. I really do!! Love it! Well, that was as far as my little introduction 'about me' goes, I wonder what it's like to practise multiple styles? I practise TSD one hour on friday and one hour on sunday... and I have a kicking bag at home which I simply can't stop kicking. So time enough left it seems... any suggestions or ideas on this? I really wonder if things would get messed up doing multiple styles... or I'd mix up terminology, or what not would happen?
  23. Same here! Though only in for a year or 2.. love it!
