All punches (karate or otherwise) are the sum of kinetic, potential and rotational energy. So yes Karate has "Energy" punches. There is a bit more to it than an energy punch than kinetic, potential and rotational energy. Dont get me wrong you guys do punch with tremendous power but i was talking to a guy the other day and he mentioned that Karate has a similar punch what tcma call fa ging energy transfer but he called it something different in Japanese he said that karate has it but not many people are aware of it. I dont know about this as I am not to familiar with Karate. The punch is not desigined to blast it ways through the target it is designed strike internal so the pain felt not on the surface but on organs to disrupt the function Tai chi does it a lot especially in chen any thoughts Many thanks

As I am based in TCMA I was wondering does KARATE have any energy punches/strikes like kung fu or Tai Chi if so what are they called and do you have any examples of them striking on You tube etc
  3. There many systems out there that use a whole number of striking methods. But as Jet li is an actor and so been choreographed in that way sometimes the shape looks good for the camera. Ie Th so called gangsters in La etc are showing to hold a gun side ways to shoot for which I have been told can through the shell in your face as well as jamming the gun but it looks more stylish holding the gun that way on film.
  4. can you be a bit more accurate and explain
  5. Word of warning before you try certain aspects of conditioning training for the fingers and forearms think of the long term effects when you are 60 odd and start getting arthritis in the fingers and so on It is easy to be enthusiastic in your training and be a bull in a china shop and try these ancient methods of hand conditioning but just understand these guys need it for survival and they didn't have the nearest gym or sports medicine around the corner to help you out regardless of having dit dat jow or not. SO THINK FIRST REMEMBER YOU STOP BOUNCING AT 35 IT STARTS TO HURT FROM THERE AFTER
  6. The best thing to do is stay relaxed and feel the sensitivity of your opponent if somebody is stiff then you know what to do I love doing this sort of technique on beginners you tell them to relax but it makes your job easier as they get more frustrated all the time and they get stiff So just be as relaxed as possible and feel the response from your opponent then counter
  7. The body is made up of i think around 360 or so points not to sure of the exact number it is based on a the 5 element theory in the destructive cycle. Fire attacks metal attacks wood, penetrates earth attacks water Each one of the 12 meridians have elements associated with it ie fire has small intestine pericardium heart and triple burner, metal has lung and large intestine . when you hit these points together you get pain. To strike with these you need a great degree of skill and probably works best in chinna where you have time to work on your partner. But for the person that practice these strike arts earns the right to use them.

  14. Lau gar has two sides in its tradional training there is a external side (hard) and a internal side (soft) You will only develop the internal side the longer you train. As there is internal ways in the forms as you become more proffecient. In regards the tourmanet fight Lau gar has bulit its reputation in the fighting circuit. some say to the detrement to the style. It wll depend on your instructor what bias he will give i learn the tradiional side although i did have an instructor was compition led. we cover it all. But if you find a good instrutor he will cover both bases. But there was alot of conditioning ie press ups on wrist fingers and fists etc hope that helps
