  1. Yeah- it really depends on what they find- extent of injury. I blew out my right knee in the middle of my 2nd brown test a number of years ago. The ACL was completely torn in half and I had to have reconstructive surgery. It took me a year to rehab. it and really get back going strong in my training. I hope your appt. goes well and it is nothing more serious than just a tear.....keep us posted.
  2. Please stop by and say "Hi" https://www.myspace.com/taradactyl27
  3. Thanks everyone.....yeah- cleaning them was actually something else I was going to post about.....they are NEVER completely clean and it's gross!! I wish they would go back to carpet or just hard flooring!!
  4. Yep- I love it up there. He lived in Victoria when we met.......he must have really loved me to move down here for me!!
  5. Welcome!! You still on the West Coast? My husband is from BC
  6. Okay- the "Why do you have to wear socks" thread got me thinking about this as did another discussion over on MartialTalk. Do any of you train on puzzle mats? Do they mess up your feet any? I recently switched from working out twice a week on them to 4 times a week and they seem to be making my feet really dry and cracky (yeah, nice!). Just wondering if any of the rest of you have this same issue?
  7. I observed a kids Aikido class once where they were striking at bubbles with their wooden swords (sorry, don't know the proper term of the swords they use) but the kids were having a ton of fun and were getting pretty accurate with jabbing at the bubbles. Another idea to help with kicks and balance is regular balloons.....blow them up and have the kids try to keep them in the air with multiple kicks. In the adults class, the instructor had us kicking kickballs. You knew if you hit it right if it flew straight for a front kick, to the side for a good side kick, etc. Oh- and those fun noodles are fun to have the kids jump over when you swing them and also spar with them- just not too hard (which is hard for the wee ones to control when they get excited!!)
  8. I sweat a lot too (and I'm a female)!! I wear a bandana in the summer months to keep sweat from getting in my eyes and it really helps overall. Drink lots of water.......they say 8 cups a day, but you are supposed to drink even more than that if you are overweight or work out or sweat hard. I've also heard half your body weight in ounces......for instance.....if you weigh 200lbs, it would be 100 ounces of water per day. The fact that you have broken ribs can't be helping matters much....are you sure the Dr. is okay with you working that hard with those ribs as they are?
  9. Agreed......as long as you have the time to practice both/all.
  10. Well- and some sets- if you want to include those.......Star Block (Blocking Set), Kicking Set, Finger Set.....and I had to make up my own Kata with my 10 techs that I made up for Black too.....are they still doing that?
  11. Best of luck from a fellow member of the bad knee club!! I blew mine out in the middle of my test for my second brown. Had surgery and a year of rehab......and though it's never been the same, I am thankful that at least it works again!! Do your best.......and have the ice ready for when you are done!! Oh.....and tell us how it went!!
  12. Well- I'll look for ya then......6'6".....Yeah, besides maybe Chuck Epperson, I should be able to spot you!! As to Frank, I tried to PM you, but I can't until I have posted 25 things.....do you have an e-mail address you can PM to me? I've been wondering who all is still at the school that I would recognize/know. It's been a long time since I've been up there......like over a year now!! Yikes!! I took time out to have my daughter. I really need to get back up there and get another private lesson with Mr. Halsey and jump into class after (It's a 3 hour commute for me). Down here, I am working out 4 days a week. Helping teach an adult's class at Liner's Kenpo two nights a week, the other two nights, I work out with Chris Davison (A student of Chuck Epperson's). Are you guys getting a good turn-out of people for the camp? Mr. Halsey said I should get something in the mail with directions, etc. on it? Thanks!
  13. Hence, the name Jadnek!! My husband and I have two wonderful kiddos- Jadon is 4 and in Little Dragon's class. Nekoda is 16 months and tries to do everything her big brother does......she has her "Hi-Yah!!" down and even does little kicks for me on the focus bag.........I have to get that on tape!!
