  1. Just curious if anyone saw the fight on ISKA karate and what they thought of it. I thought Ernie did a good job overall for it being his 2nd thai match. He was off somewhat in timing, but all in all he was impressive. His attitude was intimidating His dad was there to support him. It was cool. I like it when someone who doesn't have to prove himself tries something different and humbles himself. That is what we should be about.
  2. Name: WildBunch Mixed Martial Arts Sensei:Rodney Thompson, 6th Dan Where: Tulsa, Ok
  3. wow, there are so many cool things about martial arts. I love the fact that there are so many different styles and you can use your own techniques to add to it. You can study a lifetime and still not learn it all.
  4. Why do you think this is? I definitely understand about good and bad martial artists but am not sure what you mean....
  5. makes perfect sense. The less weight we carry (within normal weight limits) the more efficient we are. Lance Armstrong is a great example. By reducing his body fat % after his bout with cancer, he came back stronger and of course faster. I do believe that balance is a different story. It has a lot to do with strength, inluding leg and core. and sometimes it's as easy and not leaning when you kick Balance comes with time and practice. I think it's awesome that you are so passionate. mastering the blocks, strikes, kata, etc. will improve your coordination as well.
  6. Martial arts is awesome for coordination. You become very aware of your surroundings and your reflexes become natural, stick with it and you will be amazed
  7. I appreciate everyone's input and would love to hear more
  8. Yes, I think the accomplishment is paramount. It is hard to put it into words without getting emotional thanks so much for your imput
  9. I hope all is well and they got it all. I haven't posted in a while but have been training like a mad women. will test for black in april
  10. There are so many ways to injure the knees... I'd ice it and give it a few days to a week and see how it feels. If it still hurts or is popping, you'll want to get it xrayed. Knees are kind of tricky especially when another person is involved. strength training for the legs will help the knees. Good luck
  11. Hey Everyone, As part of my test for 1st Dan in April I am writing an essay on what getting a Black Belt means to me. I was interested in hearing what it has meant to everyone out there. I know everyone has a great story to tell. There are so many things that it's hard to put it all down on paper! I would like to hear what it means to you..
  12. Amen to that, the thai roundhouse is the bomb, especially for a women, will stop most of the men from charging at you. Respect is a good thing.
  13. Awesome Job!!! You should be so proud. I am 1st brown testing for black in April. Congrats. Angela
  14. I had a slipped vertabrae. L4 to be exact. Back in 2004 I was on my way home from my brown belt test and my car got hit by a Mack truck, (short story). I had a year and a half of conservative treatment, then had a lamectomy, with hardware. They left the disc in as it was in good condition, and my back has been awesome since. I came back to training four months after the surgery and have been back for eight months now. I'm 42 and give the credit to my MA training before the surgery, help me recover so quick. I'm moved on now to painful knees which have both been scoped and other insignificant obstacles. I love my Martial Arts. Angela
  15. Had them in my back, three times and they did nothing! surgery was a the answer in that situation.
  16. injured my wrist a few weeks ago doing a hook on a new set of tai pads, totally stupid. Wrapping it is helping. Got kicked in the calf muscle badly,,and keep reinjuring it everytime I do tai kicks. It's been one challenge after another. I've been in a crappy mood for weeks due to the asmtha and heart related stuff.
  17. when doing most kicks lean your upper body into the kick, it will help you keep your balance and give more power to your kick. Leaning away will make you kick higher but without much power.
  18. I am actually doing this type of training as well. One thing I am learning is run around alot. If you can stay a couple of steps ahead of them. you can use them against each other. Pick the easiest fighter, and keep him in between your other opponants. Thrust kicks work well to kick em when they come at you and side kicks. Other than that I keep my hands up, punch like a madwoman, run like H_ _ _. Punch them as you are running by. It works
  19. My choice is the eliptical for the same reason, it's easier on the knees and works your arms too.
  20. Century 3makes a few gis that come long and you can have them altered. I believe their heavyweights are like that. I've found some of their demo gis to be long as well. I am 5'9 and have about a 34 inch inseam so I have the same problem. A size 4 is too short for me so I have to go to a 5 for the length.
  21. Sounds like a great workout. I did arms chest and back weight training, focus mitts and abs at the gym. Couldn't go to my TKD and Boxing classes last night, the weather is bad here.
  22. I didn't work out this weekend due to the asthma allergy thing. I will be going to an allergist soon and hopefully they can help. I have class tonight.
  23. yes, that qualifies. You got your cardio for the day and you didn't have a heart attack. Tonight was 1,000 kick night. I think that explains itself. We sparred as well. Two on one and I was the one I'm exhausted.
  24. I was born with it, but thought I outgrew it around 11 or 12. I played sports in highschool, did okay. I have always had horrible allergies, and the asthma started a few weeks ago when I began to work out everyday and do intense cardio, it happens after the workout, and I feel miserable for the next day or so. I go back to the doc. Friday so they will have my breathing tests back and can hopefully help me. thanks so much for the prayers, I know they work.
  25. didn't go to my TKD or Boxing class tonight because of the asthma crap. I did work out at home did free weights, blocks, and abs. still productive and only had to use my inhaler once
