  1. Everyone, I appreciate your time and imput regarding my question. All of you had very good insight. I have began doing some dynamic stretching slowly with the side kick, and have begun to see some changes. I don't however accept that by body is no longer able to do certain things, I just have to learn a new way. Thanks so much for your help
  2. I have been training for about 5 yrs and am about 9 months away from black, and my side kick stinks. Eight months ago I had back surgery, fusion all that good stuff so I've been back since April, and I have trouble with my chamber, it seems to hurt in my periformis area and there is no power. I'm not sure it is a function of my lower back because the kick really wasn't that great before, it is frustrating because I feel confident about the power and height in all of my other kicks, can still kick above my head on all of them, and with power, but the side kick is barely waist high. Any suggestions on training or anyone who has had a similar challenge?
  3. My gi never seems to stay put, as soon as I move it comes untucked, I've never really thought about looking attractive in it, I'm about 5'9 and I think shorter people look better in gis. Probably just my perspective, one of many. I like training in it though, it's a mind set I think.
  4. I can;t really say that it's a rank or color, I think students get bored, feel unchallenged, get discouraged, or think this is simply not for me, especially women when it comes to sparring. It seems sometimes like the color purple, you either hate it or you are passionate about it. Passion =life . It is what makes you a martial artist, we are not all Bruce Lee but the ones who stay or keep coming back, possess tamashi, indomitable spirit.
  5. I attended a Dan Inasanto seminar a couple of years ago and he was amazing. It was a weapons seminar. He is in top notch shape for 60-something, very humble and personable teacher. It was awesome!!
  6. I would have to say Dan Inasanto, I was fortunate to attend one of his seminars a few years back and he is Awesome!! I hope one day for some one to say the same about me!!
  7. I have noticed in my training how much more effective I am when I am relaxed between techniques, if I don't concentrate sometimes I will chest breathe and tense up and run out of juice really quick. I think it is really important to teach breathing and relaxation. I am in training for Black and after 5 years just realized on my own how important this is. I think visualization is equally important. I had back surgery 5 months ago and just went back to TKD a month ago, but right after the surgery I began visualizing every technique, especially the difficult ones with success, it works wonders!!
  8. There are classes that teach Mixed MA also, which can include weapons, submission, self defense and even boxing which can help you to be quicker on your feet. Just a thought!
