  1. This is a little off topic, but lemme just tell you a story.. A few weeks ago, I was sitting there at work. I work at a gas station to make money for the University, btw. Anyways, I was sitting there reading my Maxim mag, and this one guy - he was far from a wealthy man, judging from his cloths - comes in (he was in his 50's, me tinks) and asks for a Du Maurier (spelling?) regular. The 25 packs are 6.10 dollars Canadian, and he goes into his lil pouch, and produces a whole bunch of change. He comes out with $6.08 and has completely emptied his pouch. Then, in a really shaky voice, he was like "man..I can run down to IGA a little ways from here and I can get those 2 cents man..I dont have any more money man, please." He was basically begging. Then, I was like "ahh..dont worry about it dude, its only 2 cents." He then grabbed the cig pack and said, in a clearly relieved voice "thanks man. I havent had a cig all weekend." and walked out the door. You would have to have seen the guy to get a sense of how (pardon my wording, I did feel sorry for him) pathetic this scene was. Anyways, I was just wondering if all smokers are like this if they dont have a cig in a while, or was it just this person? Also, I would like to say how sick I think those cigarette companies are. I mean, they would sell smokes to five year olds, if they could (in Canada they cant, anyways). I cant believe there are people out there that dont give a damn about anyone as long as their bank accounts are full.
  2. I think its focus thats one of the most important mental things in the MA's. The worst, in my eyes, is being under confident. This, I have had a personal problem with, untill recently, hehe, and ill tell you, its one nasty circle. Everything that you do, you dont think, you KNOW your going to screw up. Then, guess what? Something DOES go wrong, reinforcing you belief... Also, I agree with the calmness thing (arent the MS's supposed to prevent fighting in the first place?) and the over confidence statement.
  3. Just wondering what you guys get from meditation? Also, how many times do you do it a week? -Philosopher Zak
  4. HEY!! Prodigy!! Your from India too?!?! Nice ( Yay, another Desi on this forum!! -Punjabi Zak-

  6. The US and its allies came onto Afghan soil, killed a some Afghan innocents, and for what? Justice? I think that we owe it to those people over their to help put a democratic government in power. This means not letting the Northern Alliance gain absolute control over the country like they seem to be doing right now. I hope the Allies wont just be like 'yeah, the Taliban are kicked out, so those people are free because the Northern Alliance are good people'. Zak the Compasionate (spelling?)

  8. Oh yeah, forgot the URL for the Wheel of Time series, if anyone is interested. Here it is: http://www.wotmania.com -Zak, who talks too much sometimes
  9. I love to read. My favorite type of books are fantasy, and my alltime favorite book is.....'Homeland' by R.A Salvatore. If you like to read about insanely skilled fighters, then this , and others of the series, are the books for you!! The main character - Drizzt Do'Urden - is sooo good, he would OWN Bruce Lee. The fighting is all well and good, but what I really love about these books is how the main characters develop throughout the story. If you are interested, then go to the authors official site at this URL: http://www.rasalvatore.com/ Another interesting read (only start on these books if you have a decent amount of time..trust me) is the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Awesome story, amazing writing, but reeeeaaaaaally long. He STILL is a few books away from finishing off the story (already has 9 big books released, 10th comming sometime next year). -Zak, with his head in the books
  10. Oooopsy. The last address did work, for some reason. Here is another on: http://myth3.godgames.com/ -Zak the Great General of Strat Games
  11. ..Have you ever heard of the Myth series by Bungie (same people who made Halo)? If you havent, then take it from me, they completely destroy almost every other strategy games out there. You should try to get a demo of the games at http://www.bungie.com . Also, Myth 3:The Wolf Age was just released a month ago and made by a different company named Mumbo Jumbo. You should look for it on the internet and see what it is like. Here is a link to the company site : http://www.mumbojumbo.com
  12. I actually watched the whole thing..ugh. Did that movie ever suck some serious..thingy. The martial arts were horrible, in my *humble* opinion. The 'matrix-esque' camera effects were waaaaaay too over done by half. It seemed to me that the camera was used to hide the fact that the actors didnt know how to fight (especially that sword fighting at the end - and all that flying bullsh!t didnt help either, btw). Another thing. That evil guy sucked at being evil. I mean, comon dude!! He didnt even know how to laugh properly! Oh well, gotta jet! -Zak 'Da Critic
  13. As the title implies, Canada has been screwing me lately. YOU KNOW HOW COLD IT IS OUTSIDE?!?!? Anyways, I just need someone to answer one question: Is it safe to be jogging in about 20 - 30 degrees celsuis below? I have heard that it could freeze your lungs or something like that. Thanks for any input, guys!! Zak
  14. What I usually do is, for 3 days a week, jog my regular pace for about 30 - 45 mins, then twice in the same week, do what Aiki said. Except with a few little changes: in the middle of my fast runs, I do some plyometrics, and other excersizes that really make your heart beat and add muscle mass. Then, at another point in my runs, I sprint up some stairs until I can barely stand up (hehehe), then rest for about 2 mins, then start off again with a slow jog. I then gradually increase my pace until I am running really fast, then gradually decrease it until I am walking. Towards the end of my run, there is this insanely steep hill that I sprint up (or try to). When I reach the top, even if my lungs are burning, and I have no energy, I try my best to keep on jogging until I reach my home. I know that doing this really helped me with my fitness and stamina.
  15. hrmph..its weird how it seems that the coaches of that kung-fu style worked on developing strategies to combat Muay Thai. You know, the fighters always tried to keep a distance and stuff. Did the Thai fighters have similar strategies to use against the Chinese? I doubt it. Me thinks that the Thai's got over confident in their MA and underestimated the Chinese. Next time, the Muay Thia people will probably take a little more humble aproach when taking on another MA.
  16. is that for just one arm? i guess so, cuzz its easy doing over 5 with both arms.. i can do about 6 with my left.
  17. hmm..To burn the most fat on your runs, try running slowly. This is because if you run at a fast pace, then your body switches to an anaerobic mode of producing energy. What this means is that your body doesnt need oxygen to produce the energy for muscles. Without oxygen, fat doesnt get burned. That is what produces the burning and stuff..its lactic acid, which is a by-product of anaerobic energy production. Im not saying that you dont burn any fat while sprinting, because you are breathing very hard. You actually burn more calories per minute at a faster pace, but when running a definite distance, the calories burned is actually less than at a slow pace..plus, you can run for a longer time. Sprinting is good though. It raises metabolism, which helps to get rid of fat even when your not excersizing. About twice every week, I run a certain distance by sprinting for about 15 secs, then slow to a jog, then to a walk (for about 20 secs), then I just keep repeating this until im back at home (or I fall dead). This excercise is more for soccer than anything else, though. Also, I would like to stress the fact that jogging is very hard on your lower body. Have a pair of good running shoes and try not to run on pavement as much as you can. Soft trials in a park are best..and dont run more than 45 mins (I had a nasty run-in with shinsplint last sprig because I didnt follow these tips, ehhehehehe ). Oh yeah, and jogging does burn more fat than weight lifting..but doing both is very good. What you have to remember is that aerobics dont only use fats and stuff for energy..they use muscles too. Your body breaks down your muscles for energy, so you have to keep eating lots of protien and doing weight lifting. [ This Message was edited by: Zaknafein on 2001-10-13 13:37 ]
  18. why do i do Muay Thai? *shrugs* havent figured that out yet, hehehe. i dont think that ill ever haveta use it for self defence (ima canadian, we peaceful ) . i think that i just..LIKE it, for some reason..so fun!! at first i just wanted to go into it so i could increase my fitness (so i could be Da Musckle Man..and get..Da Chicks! )..but im still not 'Da Musckle Man', and i certainly dont get 'Da Chicks' ..but im still paying monthly for classes..so..*shrug* [ This Message was edited by: Zaknafein on 2001-10-11 09:42 ]
  19. hrmph..Angus, i think that when sparring with some chick, it would be in her best interest for u to fight her like u would fight a man. She needs to learn how to fight..not just attack some guy who is not being aggresive. What if she encounters some sicko on the street and doesnt know how to defend against an attack from someone stronger than her? I'd rather knock that woman on her ass a few times than let her be raped. hehehe, this is kinda like that one saying 'give a man a fish, and it'l feed him for a day. TEACH a man to fish will feed him for a lifetime (maybe, ehhehhe)'. Another thing, I think that what Angus means by women being 'things of beauty', he means that they are beautiful INSIDE (well..most of the time they are, hehehe, just get one jealous and... *hides*). They say in my religion (Sikhism) that women have a better chance to get to God than men because they are just better people. God loves them more than us men.. bleh..
  20. k, cool, got it. thnx
  21. heheheheh, thanks for your input guys, hehe. I havent had time to read the messageboards until now, so I havent had the chance to try any of these tips yet...but rest assured, I will! just one question for you, Rushman, in your reply, you said something about using a belt to balance and do kicks? it would be great if you could clarify, thnx..
  22. Hi, I was just wondering what are good excersises to help develop good balance and agility. I am lacking in both areas, hehehhe. PS: dunna say stretching for improved agility, cuzz im already workin on that
  23. hrmph, i would be... 'Da Man' . hehe, actually, i would be a lion!! not because they are brave or anything but *whispers* because they have a lot of sex .
  24. i just have a few question that i was wondering about. 1) ive been trying to improve my flexibility lately. for the most part, its improved noticeably. the only problem is that when i try to do the splits, i reach a point in the stretch that my hips start hurting. i can still go on till i feel the stretch in my groin, but im not sure if its natural..thats where u guys come in . 2) this is the most annoying problem for me. it regards the speeds of my left and right hands. my right hand is incredibly fast, but my left is MUCH slower. again, i dunno if this is natural because of the stance (left foot slightly forward) but even if im not standing in that stance, they both move at the same speeds. is there any way that i can improve the speed of my left? ive already tried somethings, but they only helped a little. 3) this is my last one and it concerns balance. i was just wondering if balance exercises that have u standing in one place on one leg will help ure balance when moving. ive been told that static balance is trained differently than dynamic balance (eg. standing on one leg isnt going to help u walk the tight rope). is this true? could someone post some good balance exercises? thnx for ure help..
  25. Nicks fight against Scott Bannon was one of his first fights, he was really inexperienced at the time. Since then, he has come a long way. Also, Jason Fenton is also an awesome fighter from Calgary. btw, im being taught in Mike Miles' National Kickboxing, so I know these people, and I finding it to be a great experience.
