I agree. I had it happen to me before on the upper portion of my inner ankle. My entire leg went numb and I felt sick to my stomach the rest of the day. I recovered with no issues. Respectfully, Sohan

Since everyone loves to knock the ATA, just wanted to point out that one of the competitors on TUF 3 is an ATA 4th degree. Obviously he has other training, but he is a 4th degree co-school owner in ATA TKD. (Danny Abaddi). AFAIK, he is still on the show, I didn't catch the last episode. Aodhan Please don't include me in any group knocking TKD. I hope I made it clear the respect I have for the art. Respectfully, Sohan

Guys giving in to ladies??
Sohan replied to Kasumi27's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
For me it's more an issue of strength and skill. If the other is below my skill/strength level, whether male or female, I usually adapt my own style so we can both benefit from our work together. I try not to make gender distinctions, and I always ask my partner if they want me to go harder, softer, faster, etc. Respectfully, Sohan -

Started boxing at age 9 so its been more than 30 years of fighting arts, fairly continuously. TKD and TSD as a teen and young adult, then MT and grappling, then my current school where we practice Shorin ryu, Shudokan, and Hung Gar throughout the week (since '99) It's a trying yet gratifying schedule. And I have a very supportive wife. Thanks for asking. Respectfully, Sohan -
Shorin-ryu and Shudokan. Have studied Tang Soo Do and TKD, but never reached 1st dan. Respectfully, Sohan

BJJ. It's a nice complement to TKD. Respectfully, Sohan -
I see quite a few 5th dans out there who couldn't beat some of our brown belts. I've stopped caring about rank and instead focus on my knowledge and skill. I'm a lot happier this way. Respectfully, Sohan

We are the same in our Shorin-ryu. White, Green, Brown, and Black. Takes 5-9 years to get to black, but we also study Shudokan so we are awarded belts in both styles. The kids have yellow, orange, blue, purple and green belts for kukyu, hachikyu, shichikyu, rhokokyu, and gokyu. Takes about 6 months to a year or more for each belt level depending on skill and maturity. Once they get to gokyu they can join adult class, though some join earlier. Respectfully, Sohan

It's really simpler than you think, especially at your age: --Reduce your fat intake, control your portion sizes --Eat more vegetables and fruit --Eat 100% whole grains --Drink 8 glasses of water a day --Eat every 3-4 hours, but SMALL meals (@400 calories each) --Never skip breakfast --Don't eat within 3 hrs of bedtime, unless it is a light snack after training --Aerobic exercise 6 days a week; moderate intensity for at least 30-45 minutes; the longer, the better --Weight train. Short rest, medium reps (8-12), 3 sets per exercise. 2-3 times per week. Mix it up to keep muscles from adapting too quickly. --Get 8 hrs sleep minimum every night. --Watch your stress level That's the basics. Just gave you advice that people pay $80 an hour for. Educate yourself as much as you can on fitness and nutrition. That's the best way to get lean and stay there. Respectfully, Sohan

With multiple opponents I'm going to break something quickly, even if its a finger, and move on to the other guys. No tapouts or controlling holds here. One on one I'd likely be more forgiving. Respectfully, Sohan -
Picture a lighting bolt piercing the skin of a 3000 pound bull with a serious personality disorder while surpassing supersonic speed and.... OK, not really. But it's REEALLY intimidating... Sohan

Love the article. Unfortunately for film buffs everywhere, we won't see "Return of the Karate Kid" with Mr. Miyagi now that Pat Morita has passed. Respectfully, Sohan

I had seen that around on youtube but had never watched it. Fantastic. Respectfully, Sohan

HA! Nice response, Patusai. I like combat knives. Push knives are pretty neat as well. I'm no expert, but I know what I like. Check the legality of whatever you purchase. You can get in big trouble if you're caught carrying the wrong blade. Respectfully, Sohan

It's a big part of our Shorin-ryu training. I would likely never use it in a real world situation, but I still derive many benefits from training with it. Respectfully, Sohan

We use bo and sai in our current class. I've also used tonfa, jo, and nunchuka. Would like to get some experience with the kama and noburikama as well. My favorite weapon is my knife. Learned knife fighting from my Muay Thai teacher, who had experience in knife fighting techniques in the service. I also own a personal stun gun and retractable baton. Respectfully, Sohan

Looking for a ridiculous MA flick?
Sohan replied to ps1's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I loved Kung Pow. Unfortunately it has ruined me for many kung fu films. I couldn't make it through Shaolin Soccer. I had seen Kung Fu Hustle and thought it was funny, but SS left me flat. Respectfully, Sohan -
Why would anyone want to force someone to train them that didn't want to train them? To think that our society has become so litigious today that an MA instructor would be concerned over potential legal action for not wanting to teach a student. Yikes. Beam me up. Respectfully, Sohan

What Constitutes a Good Instructor?
Sohan replied to scottnshelly's topic in Instructors and School Owners
A good instructor has integrity. A good instructor doesn't believe they are 100% correct about everything. A good instructor understands his craft. A good instructor is fair. A good instructor knows when to push and when to back off. A good instructor practices what they preach. A good instructor is motivating. A good instructor knows the history of his art. A good instructor holds himself to a higher standard. Respectfully, Sohan -
Good video. His TKD pedigree is obvous with those powerful precise kicks. No doubt TKD has some of the best kicks in the world. Lukasz has a lot more skills than just TKD, though. Seems to have had some judo and grappling added on, and looks like he's got a good boxing coach. Thanks for the vid. Respectfully, Sohan

I got ahead during Christmas break by doing kata endlessly. Came back in January without any two person work and felt great in long chamber and sparring. Do what you can with what you've got and keep doing it during your break. Remember the world is your dojo. Respectfully, Sohan

In Georgia you would be justified in using a threat of violence since he was attempting to rob you. Good for you for standing up to this guy--he'll think twice next time. Respectfully, Sohan

My kata practice is very satisfying. I enjoy the meditative feeling I get and it is wonderful for my balance and stances as well. Respectfully, Sohan
