  1. Good post, pendakarshihan1! Respectfully, Sohan
  2. I know this thread is a little old, but when I read it I really needed to post. Max, if you're 13 and you're 6' 140 lbs with size 15 feet, you need to go, no RUN, to the nearest swimming team in your area. There's an Olympic medal out there with your name on it. Seriously. Your dimensions are perfect to be a REALLY good swimmer. Respectfully, Sohan
  3. Guitar. Since the early 70's. Some piano and drums, too. I played clarinet for a year in 5th grade and showed no talent whatsover. Respectfully, Sohan
  4. Fastway, Motorhead, Dokken, Accept, Ratt, AC/DC, The Michael Schenker Group, Dio, Living Color, Europe, Queensryche, Mars, Tesla, Iron Maiden, Lillian Axe, Steel Attack, Lynch Mob, Scorpions, White Zombie. I'm sure there's others. Respectfully, Sohan
  5. Mostly MA flicks, documentaries, and demonstration DVDs. Also musical performances and superhero flicks (my kid loves 'em). Other than that, I purchase few DVDs. I have a monthly deal at Blockbuster and for a small fee I get unlimited rentals 2 at a time. Works great for us. Respectfully, Sohan
  6. I fear illness causing the inability to experience the love of those around me. I fear never viewing a sunset from my balcony while sipping a raspberry lemonade again. I fear that I may never enjoy a coffee stout from Five Seasons Brewery again because they will change their menu for the umpteenth time. I fear that despite my best efforts I will never kick as well as Bruce Lee or Superfoot Wallace. I fear that the Atlanta Braves will NEVER see another World Series soon. I fear that my waiters this evening were just like the clowns in "Waiting" the movie. I fear that my computer hates me. The last one did. I fear that I haven't told my son I love him enough. Okay, I don't fear that anymore. I fear drivers who don't care enough about themselves, much less anyone else, to keep from getting behind the wheel when they've had one too many. I fear that there's beautiful music or art out there that I won't experience in my lifetime, but it's easily within my grasp if I know where to look. I fear that I spend too much time in this forum. Respectfully, Sohan
  7. I would like to see him in the UFC. I think he would make some noise. With the heavyweights that are currently leading the UFC, you're probably right. Respectfully, Sohan
  8. Isn't it past your bedtime, young lady? Respectfully, Sohan
  9. Also, my wife is working at a Brazilian company where she is the only non-Brazilian, and they're a bit prejudiced against her and her country. I have nothing against Brazilians, particularly since I study BJJ now, but I think she would love nothing better than to see Mexico upset them this year. Not likely, but it would make for a very happy Sohan household. Respectfully, Sohan
  10. Thanks for the nice words. Respectfully, Sohan
  11. Talk to your instructor about this, perhaps he can talk to the other BB. A black belt should make you more humble, not prideful. But don't let it cause you to lose your cool in training--just do your best and let your results shine. Respectfully, Sohan
  12. I know this is old, but I'm surprised nobody said inner-city middle school teacher. My ex's mother worked at one of the toughest schools around. She quit the day a child urinated on her desk to protest a poor homework grade. Respectfully, Sohan
  13. I know several so far that intrigue me, though I'm still quite new. Someday maybe this forum should have a geographical meetup at local watering holes around the country? I met up with some friends from a running site at a marathon once and we really hit it off even though we had never met face-to-face. I made friends that I still see occasionally at various travel destinations. In fact, I stayed with some folks at the Chicago marathon a few years back and it just happened to be the race where I met my wife. I have been happy to return the favor since, though I have yet to hitch any of them up. Respectfully, Sohan
  14. I dunno about this one. That depends on what you're after. I know more about muay thai than my coach - my background was from a more traditional standpoint, where as his was purely competitive. However, because the time I spent learning tradition, he spent fighting, he is light years ahead of me, though I can hang with him. Even though we both fight, he was fighting way more because that was the sole motivation behind the gym he trained at. Since we both coach at the same school now, he will defer to me and another guy who had the same instructors as me on questions about tradition. I agree with you, elbows_and_knees. Knowing the history does not make a good instructor, it makes him a historian. I know a lot of details about a lot of styles and arts, but I can't teach them. I feel confident in my ability to instruct TKD, buy not in other styles. There are lots of historians out there that know about the history of war, both ancient and modern. However, that knowledge does not make them good warriors. I've got to also agree with the above. I know a fellow who can tell you everything you need to know about Okinawan and Japanese fighting arts but can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag because he never practices. Spends more time reading about karate than training in it. The irony is he'd probably be pretty darn good if he applied himself. Respectfully, Sohan
  15. No worries. Respectfully, Sohan
  16. Welcome! Respectfully, Sohan
  17. Good one. You're absolutely right! Respectfully, Sohan
  18. Dude that is complete Bull crap. I didn't say it, SHE did. Respectfully, Sohan
  19. Actually there are a couple fighters here with UFC experience from what I understand. None of them named Fred Ettish. And remember, a good martial artist could likely abuse parts of him he didn't even know he had. His size and strength makes for a formidable advantage, but it's not everything. He's still quite a specimen, though. Wouldn't want to take my chances if I didn't have to. Respectfully, Sohan
  20. I didn't see this here before, but it's pretty funny... http://www.jokejoint.com/kungfucat.shtml Use the link in the upper left to view this amazing display of cat prowess. Respectfully, Sohan
  21. Hmm, I have sharp pointy little things that don't ask what size and weight someone is. They're quite effective at reducing street conflict. At 6' 190, I wouldn't be foolish enough to meet him in a ring. My last name isn't Gracie. Respectfully, Sohan
  22. These are martial arts strategies that I have picked up merely by watching my cats fight each other. A sort of "cat-fu" or the "tao of the paw", if you like: 1. First strike attacks put you in a position to win. 2. Most fights will indeed end up on the ground. 3. When in a clinch, use your legs to strike. A lot. 4. Just because the other guy cries uncle doesn't mean he's going to quit when you let go. 5. It's possible to fight and be friendly afterward. 6. Biting is an effective aspect of fighting. 7. Don't telegraph your intentions. Wait still and calm, and strike without unnecessary movement. 8. If you are losing badly, run. 9. Always try to get to a higher point to gain a critical edge. 10. Flurries of strikes will often break down any defense. Respectfully, Sohan
  23. Good for you! Congratulations on your successful class. I'm sure you'll make a fine instructor. Respectfully, Sohan
