  1. 7/15/2020 TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Did some early bag work, lots of side kick variations. From there, we worked on some spinning crescent kicks with some of the high colored belt ranks, and finished class with some sparring. 7/17/2020 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x5, 185x3, 220x5. Lat Pull-downs: 135x10, 135x10, 135x10, 135x10. 7/22/2020 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x5, 195x3, 225x5. Lat Pull-downs: 140x10, 140x10, 140x10, 140x10. I'm starting to feel the pressure in my ear build up again, and when I Valsalva, I'm starting to notice some light-headedness. My Meniere's is kicking up again, it seems. MA Training TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Worked the bag early, mainly punching combinations. Lots of jabs, jab/cross, and other combinations with hooks and uppercuts. Then we got to working on some spinning kicks and jumping/spinning kicks. We worked on some 360 degree round kicking variants, some spin hook kicks, spin heel kicks, and I did some jump spinning hook kicks. Spent a good amount of time breaking technique down for the students in the class. Finished with two rounds of sparring each, and a stretch.
  2. Ah, those are some names! I've still got some of my TKD Times magazines, too. I can't bring myself to get rid of any of them, either!
  3. I've got a hard-bound, three-ring binder that I keep a lot of stuff in. Some of it is stuff I've printed off that struck a cord with me. Some of it is my own writings like I've published here. Some of it is reflections of what I've done over the years. I've also got a bunch of class planners that I put together early on in my teaching career that I would go back and reference for class ideas. I haven't added much to it in a long time, but I may need to start doing that again.
  4. I like ALL of that immensely; great new across the board!! I second that! Congrats on your accomplishments thus far!
  5. 7/13/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 185x3, 215x5, 215x5, 215x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 120x5, 120x5, 120x5. Lat Pull-downs: 125x10, 125x10, 125x10, 125x10. 7/14/2020 Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x5, 185x3, 215x5. Lat Pull-downs: 130x10, 130x10, 130x10, 130x10. Triceps Push-downs: 115x10, 115x10, 115x10, 115x10.
  6. As sensei8 would say, "the proof is on the floor." It will always reveal itself.
  7. Man, that's cool. I'd love to find some stuff like that! I've got some old copies of Black Belt Magazine, but most of my stuff is from the mid 2000s, I think.
  8. 7/8/2020 MA Training TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. The newly labeled "T-shirt day." It used to be our kicking class, but the instructors have decided to keep the structure of the class more open than to just bag kicking. We warmed up with some stations kicking the bags and the targets, doing various side kicks, round kicks, and axe kicks. We spent the last 20 minutes of class sparring. I think I got 4 or 5 rounds in, rotating and getting new partners each time. It was a small class, but it was a class of black belts and high-ranked colored belts, so it was good sparring. Finished with a stretch. 7/9/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 185x3, 210x5, 210x5, 210x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 115x5, 115x5, 115x5. Triceps Push-downs: 110x10, 110x10, 110x10, 110x10. Lat Pull-downs: 120x10, 120x10, 120x10, 120x10.
  9. Interesting take, Bob. I really like the Bosch character, and he grows on me more each season. I've also enjoyed Chief Irving, too.
  10. I don't know if this would be a style related thing, or more of an instructor related philosophy on teaching bunkai. Instead of thinking in terms of styles, think on the type of instructors within the styles and schools you seek.
  11. Wrestling's takedowns, from Folk, Freestyle, and Greco. All very valuable tools, and the delivery systems can be modified to fit needs. Also, the defenses to such takedowns.
  12. That's an awesome accomplishment! The full contact training sounds like it would be a fun time! Glad to have you here at KF, and glad you made the plunge to stop lurking and dive into the discussions!
  13. 6/22/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 185x3, 205x5, 205x5, 205x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 105x5, 105x5, 105x5. TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Black belt class. Do-Kangs 1-4, Choong Jang hyng practice, and three-step sparring. 6/24/2020 TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. I hopped in to do basics in this class, so got a good sweat going. Helped instruct forms and one-steps. 6/29/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 185x3, 205x5, 205x5, 205x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 105x5, 105x5, 105x5. TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Black belt class. Do-Kangs 1-4, Choong Jang hyung practice, and three-step sparring. Stretch after class. 7/1/2020 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x5, 185x3, 210x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 110x5, 110x5, 110x5. TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Did all my black belt forms (except for the skunk belt form): Kwang Gae, Poe Eun, Gae Baek, Se Jong, Yoo Sin, and Choong Jang. Still hate Yoo Sin, but I've made some adjustments to help myself out, I think. Finished with some three-step sparring and then stretched. 7/6/2020 TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Do-Kangs 1-4, Kwang Gae hyung, Choong Jang hyung twice, then three-steps. I feel good with 1-6, but need to keep working on memorization. Finished with a little bit of discussion on gun defenses. 7/7/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 185x3, 205x5, 205x5, 205x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 110x5, 110x5, 110x5. It's time to get some consistency back at the gym.
  14. Sang H. Kim has a book that covers lots of stretching called Ultimate Flexibility. It's a good reference. I usually do light stretch before class starts up, and then after basics I stretch really hard (if I'm in the traditional class), or I stretch out after class. I do static stretching for the most part, but every now and then I'll do some static stretching. I've done some PNF stretching in the past, and it's great, too, but you usually need a partner for the best results.
  15. I always hated push-ups. I did try the 100 push-up challenge a long time ago, and didn't like it.
  16. Who do you love to hate on that show, Bob? At first, I really couldn't stomach Money Chandler, but, after certain events that I shan't spoil, I've come to not despise her so much.
  17. 6/17/2020 Firearms Training Spent about 2 hours at the range, working with a guy from a local agency that really knows his way around a firearm. Got some pretty good tips and feedback, and he also provided me with some folks to check out on Youtube that have some good training ideas. Spent time doing some Dot Torture, which gets a lot of reps in with drawing and firing, multiple shots on one target, then transitioning to another, etc. It's a really good drill. Then backed up and did some from the 15 and 25 yard line, using some dummy rounds. About 160 rounds of good practice. My consistency is getting much better. 6/18/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 175x3, 200x5, 200x5, 200x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x3, 100x5, 100x5, 100x5. TKD Class: 5:30 - 6:30. Got to class a bit early, so spent time going through colored belt forms and one-steps. Did forms through low brown (actually remembered low brown before high blue, but that's ok), and did the one-steps to go along with each of the colored ranks. From 6:30 - 7:30, I assisted with instruction in the regular class. 6/19/2020 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x5, 185x5, 205x5. Barbell Rows: 135x8, 115x8, 115x8. Triceps Push-downs: 80x10, 100x10, 100x10, 100x10.
  18. Very good point Sensei8, plus martial arts isn't for everyone, so why waste money a gi that is a bit more expensive. Honestly, I've been over the heavy gi for some time now. I know a lot of the younger people like them, for that snap and pop when doing forms. I'm way past caring about that now!
  19. It is kind of refreshing. No responsibilities except to learn!
  20. 6/5/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 115x5, 135x5, 175x5, 175x5, 175x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 85x5, 85x5, 85x5. Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x3, 170x5. 6/10/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 115x5, 135x5, 185x5, 185x5, 185x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 90x5, 90x5, 90x5. I finally broke down and bought a pair of lifting shoes. I've got to say, they are really nice. I feel like I've got a really solid base to lift from. 6/15/2020 Strength Training Squats: 45x5, 135x5, 175x3, 195x5, 195x5, 195x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 95x5, 95x5, 95x5. 6/16/2020 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 155x5, 175x3, 195x5. Lat Pull-downs: 120x12, 120x12, 120x12, 120x12.
  21. That's really cool, Patrick!
  22. I have not gotten back into collecting sports cards. I do have quite a few, and am planning on digging it up and going back through it one of these days. My wife absolutely loves Peyton Manning, and I mentioned to her that I had some of his rookie cards, so she wants to see them. Since I've gotten back into Magic, that's where most of my hobby money ends up going.
  23. I'd been hearing a lot about the documentary, and probably should make some time to watch it. If only to really see how Jordan was driven like he was.
