Judo v. BJJ
bushido_man96 replied to mmalover's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Agreed, but knowing how to fight on the ground also means you know how to get up from the ground in a safe manner. Ah, I agree with this 100%. Your other points are good as well. -
Cool, thanks. What do you mean by a "numbered" bag, DWx?

I don't like chest protectors!
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Thanks, dano. I may have to look into those. -
Part of the reason at times is that you may have to meet certain other requirements, such as writing a paper, or helping with classes, etc. It just depends on the school and instructor.

This is good advise. I would add that when you turn, bring the leg that is stepping close to the base leg that is pivoting; avoid swinging it out, as this would cause you to lose your balance, and is inefficient movement. Think of it as you would if you were just walking, and try to keep it simple. Welcome to the Forums!

Do you ever feel like *you* are *that* kind of student?
bushido_man96 replied to DisgruntledGirl's topic in Karate
Asking questions is normal and expected. We don't really have lot of arguementative students. Asking for clarification is a good thing, and most instructors will appreciate it. However, arguing a point with an experineced instructor may not be advisable until you get some more experience under your belt. -
I have never seen it before...I would be a little skeptical.

Have you read? Fighter Fact book 2?
bushido_man96 replied to learning kempo-karate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have just finished the book, and I really liked it. I like everything that I have read by Christensen so far. You can order the book from Turtle Press. -
Congrats there, Sensei Tom! That is a great deal.

Ever wondered what ur compter is doing when u r sleeping

Funny stuff!!! -
Probably true, Patrick. I would have to agree. I heard today that Jared Allen got suspended for the first 4 games of the season, for violation of the League's substance abuse policy. He still has not signed the one-year contract with the Chiefs, either.

4-27-07 Legs 1/2 Squats: 135x10, 315x20, 360x10, 360x10 I tried this a little different today. It really made my legs feel like jelly. Leg extensions: 115x10x3 Leg curls: 145x10x3 Calf raises on machine: 160x10, 143x10x2 Chest Bench press: 225x5 This felt great today! I had not done this much yet, and it helped to have a spot. This makes me feel like I can bench closer to my bodyweight. Pull ups: 1/4 x 3 Abs Ab roller: 3x10 Stretching Reverse hurler: 3x20 - 30 seconds, each side Butterfly: 3x20 - 30 seconds Seated front splits, reaching forward and to each side: 3x20 - 30 seconds each side. I also took a 25 minute walk this evening with the wife and kids. While walking, I managed to work in 15 one-leg burst ups on each leg. -
Judo v. BJJ
bushido_man96 replied to mmalover's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
That is an interesting way to put it, ninjer. I can see your point. However, if I was standing up, and I notice that more people are entering the fight, it is much easier to high-tail it out of there when you are already on your feet. Just my opinion, though. I have been fortunate enough to not have to fight. -
side kicks in MMA
bushido_man96 replied to AceKing's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I have been watching the IFL today, and I did see a side kick get thrown, and it did land on the stomach. However, the bell dinged after the kick. And, it is the only one I saw thrown or landed so far. -
I agree with this advise here. A poor kata is a poor kata, no matter what skill level it is.

Cool, thanks John.

Nah, there is nothing silly about asking, ps1. Its all good!

Judo and BJJ
bushido_man96 replied to Rainbow_Warrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Excellent post, ninjer. I had read about Maeda in some of the BJJ books that I have, and I enjoy the history behind it. Thanks a lot! -
I understand the point that you are making, ninjer, and it is very good advise. Learning the different striking arts can be great, if you like to study the differences between each of the arts. Sure, you will gain a few little things here and there; the nuances of each of the styles. However, when it comes to gaining knowledge in other ranges of combat, i.e., striking, clinching, and grappling, branching into another art that focuses on these aspects will benefit you more.

What Forms Are Good For
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Those are some very interesting comments, Greg, with some good points. I do think that Combat Training is essential, and the two could share time in a structured class setting. Thanks for sharing. -
Well, the Chiefs have traded Dante Hall to the Rams for a 5th round pick. They say that by making this move, they have gotten back to having 7 picks in the draft. If they get the Trent Green deal to go with Miami, then they could end up with 2 more picks, which would be grand. They need to fill in some holes on the Offensive line, and I hope that they address this in the Draft. If they could get a highly touted OL on the first day, I think that would be great.

Does anyone own or have access to train on these bags? I have one of the older model Wavemaster standing bags, but I have not had the opportunity to train on these newer ones. They look like they would be better for working lower line kicks, like the Thai round kick. Is this the case, in anyone else's experiences? Are they worth trading up to?
