  1. That is pretty cool. You can now buy your own piece of pop-culture.
  2. I would not want to get too deep into a stance, because I want to be able to get out of it efficiently.
  3. I think that this is a sorely lacking area not taught much in D-Tac, at least from what I have seen. We work all the time on one-on-one stuff, but there is so many times that we have someone there to help, that if you don't know how to work together, you can end up getting in each other's way. I would love to see more co-op stuff in D-T. 2-4-09 Back on the horse, kind of... 100 Push-ups Week 4, Day 1: 18, 22, 16, 16, 25 = 97. Alternating front kicks: 3x20, done between push-ups sets. Weights Bench press: 195x9, needs to go up Seated cable row: 170x7, 8 fail Military press: 115x6, 7 fail Lat pull-down: 150x6, 7 and 8 were not full pull-downs Machine curl: 45x8, needs to go up Triceps push-downs: 150x10, 10 was a hard one, go up Cardio: Bike for 20 minutes, then a brief stretch. After my cardio session, I talked to my instructor the side kick issue I had in class the other night. After some talking about which kick he wanted to see, I have it pretty well worked out now, for what he wants to see in class.
  4. Here is a title that I will be checking out very shortly: http://www.paladin-press.com/product/964/47 It should offer some good information on the subject of Western Fighting systems.
  5. I have seen these tools that you mention, but other than the makiwara conditioning that hands, I think they focus a bit more on developing some strength as opposed to the physical toughness. I have seen exercise that some Karate styles have done where the student stands in front of the sensei, who then slaps the student on various body parts to toughen them a bit.
  6. Do you remember the bag phones, too? We had one....
  7. Exactly. That's pretty much what I was trying to say.
  8. You don't think that it can be self-defense in a bar? I think it could be. Although it doesn't work this way often, I don't think that going to a bar should automatically have to cause you to be on the lookout for a fight or an attack. But, it usually does.
  9. The battlefield usage is not a valid arguement, for one major reason; on the battlefield, there would usually be some form of armor worn for protection. If you can't strike the nerve, then you aren't going to get any results. These techniques could not have been developed or used on the battlefield, due to the use of protective coverings of some type. The main things developed for battlefield usage were weapons and weapons techniques. Hand-to-hand combat has always been of a secondary concern to battlefield warriors throughout the centuries. Whether or not these techniques were designed for the high ranks or masters of the arts, is speculation at best. There just isn't enough proof to go around.

  12. These repsonses are from the found...one hit, one kill thread, and it was brought to my attention that the subject in these posts might be worth its own thread, so I have started the topic here. Thanks for reading.
  13. Welcome, bennyt. As to advertising, please refer to the user guidelines.
  14. I could only view one of the sites above, and he had a pretty side-on stance. Unless he's got a steady hand, I prefer to have two on, like tallgeese mentions. You can opt for a slightly bladed body posititon, but it won't be side on.
  15. The horizontal punch may tear skin, but this happens more readily with a glove on, I think. With bare knuckles, I think you can dig a cut in either way. And even if you can't, which is your goal? Cut the guy, or knock him out?
  16. Hopefully, I'll get to see a replay of this fight. I've read, and heard some reports, and it was GSP just pretty much dominating Penn.
  17. 2-3-09 Defensive Tactics: 8:00 - 9:45. Reviewed for our Jail DT class that is next week. Did a few new drills, as well.
  18. If you check out the website https://www.thearma.org, you can see some of the work being done on that end to preserve the Western Martial Tradition. I just wish there was a group near to me that I could work with. Right now, all I do is read up on the stuff.
  19. That is one nice thing about small organizations that have easy access to each other. Its just too bad that the lower ranks can't get together and do this kind of thing, as well.
  20. That's pretty cool. Sometimes, just finding something that you have in common with someone will help things to take off.
  21. Those are some crazy messed up cakes. I'll bet there were some complaints, too.
  22. You could even try this on BOB using the forearms as striking tools; they are very good tools for this, too.
