  1. ive read about tsd in black belt mag and researched it on the net as well as downloaded some demos and sparring sessions. it seems pretty effective. i asked my instructor about it and he said good things about it and i trust his opinion. let us know what you think after a few classes.
  2. youn wha ryu tkd is the best of the best as far as i'm concerned, upper rank training is extreme and you go home with something new every time. our one step system is flawless and our youn wha self defense is crazy and at the same time we hold true to traditional training. fighting patterns, technique, everything. and we don't hold back on the punches. i think it would at the very be worth checking out. we have many schools in many states. younwha.com
  3. seems to be a concern for you so your posture will probably improve a little before you know it. practice at it be hard on yourself until it sticks!! good luck. oh and yeah!! martial arts has helped my posture but mainly when i train. it helps everything.

  6. i train as much as possible and also am married with children. i am very close to all of them. i often work out and train in the middle of the night because it allows me to seriously work on technique. i don't have to do any of it in a hurry. i train in the regular hours to, but i look forward to the bizarre late training sessions i do. i think if you can regulate your training a little better maybe it won't clash with family or buisness time. also maybe invite able family members to train with you.
  7. hello, my name is doug hilton. i live in springfield missouri where my wife and two oldest sons train in the youn wha ryu tae kwon do association. she and i are 1st red belts. i am currently training to be an instructor and have completed 120 hours of internship and the instructors course, wich i will be taking agian this year. (i could only take it up to blue belt level last year) i will probably reach black belt status by the december test and i can't wait. i have been searching the web for a forum like this for a while i'm very happy to have found it. i love to chat and hope to make friends of as many different styles as possible. i respect all martial arts and believe every style has something to offer.
  8. in youn wha ryu we are tought as tae kwon do students, my instructor introduced randori to the class about a year ago and as we progress we learn about aikido, hapkido, judo, chinese boxing and a few others, i'm ot there yet lol. the point is our style trains you to perform your martial arts, and also have a ready arsenal for a time you might actually need to use it. we have been critisized by the ussual "its not a rel ma" people til they come to a tourny. i think kerate will take you a long way but keep your mind open to the ground arts. you wouldn't want to have to rely on kicks and punches from on your back with a bigger person beating you up.
  9. skip side kick, inside out cresent kick (mainly cause its fast) and low high front snap kicks
  10. also, the instructors course i took really opened my eyes and let me know that i had a lot of work to do in everything i learned from white belt on up.
  11. i have been teaching lower ranks for about a year, i am now a red belt in youn wha ryu tae kwon do. i got into this sport to make a career out of it. i agree with martialarthur. until you have taught the style you currently train in, i wouldn't even start a plan of making up a martial arts system. many people have tried, ALL have failed with little experiance. it took Grandmaster Han 60 years of training in MANY different martial arts to bring the youn wha ryu world association to what it is today. when i was a blue belt just a few months ago i went to my instructo with an idea i had. he told me the idea was great, but my training principles were lacking. when i worked on those he told me my ability to relate to those in need was lacking. i soon got the point that i was simply not ready mentally even though my ideas were cool. be patiant and let your instructor know how syked you are about martial arts. be more in a hurry to learn rather than create. best of luck to you
  12. where i train, i am tought that yin yang is a way to develope power into kicks and punches through technique. our technique, as far as i understand as a red belt, uses one motion to provide energy and power into another motion. i could be wrong in how i word this i hope i'm not. as far as where it originated from, you would probably do better looking in religious forumns. or just look up yin-yang on any search engine. i find that understanding the purpose rather than the origin is more useful to me in martial arts
