  1. It's so bad it's good! Certainly not the worst one, though; just very very corny. Maybe it's a cultural thing.
  2. Loved everything about it! I love QT and UT, loved all the actors; they really did a super job. Plus the plot and action sequences were fantastic! I want to own these movies and watch them over and over.
  3. I started to learn Yang style but the class folded due to lack of attendance. I guess I'm just going to get a DVD and use that. Anyway, Yang style is great especially if you combine it with some Qi Gong.

  5. Have a doctor check it out soon! I'm not sure what is going on. I had an experience where I had trouble swallowing food and it turned out my throat had closed due to a condition brought on by acid reflux called Shatzi's (sp?) Ring. I had to have an upper GI (endoscopy) to break it up. Maybe this is what is going on with you, maybe not. Anyway, it sounds serious enough to be very concerned about. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Try http://www.awma.com/index.cfm/action/home.htm Don't know if they have any, but this is a good place to check out. FYI - I am not affiliated with this store, but I did use to shop there when I lived in the area.
  7. Actually, with my sinus rinse, I tilt my head to one side, insert the tip of the plastic bottle into the nostril and squeeze the bottle, which squirts the water up one side. The water then comes out the other side. I don't literally sniff the water up my nose; it is a solid stream which comes out naturally on the other side. Of course, I then repeat with the other nostril. It feels weird but it works.
  8. First, try a sinus rinse, as has been suggested before. You can do it once a day. I use a product from Neilmed.com (no, I do not sell it). It is very easy to use and it helps a lot. Also, if you can, please see an allergy/ear nose and throat doctor to see if you have any structural problems. I had to have minor inpatient sinus surgery 15 yrs. ago, and it was one of the best things I ever did. Don't be afraid to investigate and do research. The fact that your ears are involved means you should definitely do something about it. Good luck.
  9. Although I am not sure if this applies to your particular situation, some people will try to dissuade others who are doing good things for themselves and becoming happier and more self-reliant. It may stem from insecurity, jealousy, or the other person just doesn't have the same mindset as you. I'm not saying your girlfriend is a bad person, but it seems like you are doing well and she may be in some kind of a holding pattern. Why not suggest that she do something she likes in the way of a hobby or activity that would take place at the same time you are doing karate? That way you each get your "alone time."
  10. Does anyone know what form of karate Bruce teaches or anything else about him? Just curious.
  11. Very nicely written.
  12. I was a tae kwan do student for a couple of years, and now I plan on starting Shotokan karate. I liked the school and teachers very much, but I got a sense that students were being asked to test for their next belt too quickly. How do I diplomatically question the sensei at my prospective new school to make sure that they do not do the same thing? Unlike most people who are impatient to advance, I am reluctant to be promoted before I am really ready (and I am not being hard on myself here).
  13. Hi! I started out in Tae Kwan Do a few years ago, and dropped out when I was a Yellow Belt due to work and school commitments. Now, I live in a different city, and plan to visit a Shotokan Karate class that is being held twice a week in a local church rec room. There are five instructors, all either 3rd or 4th Dan. My question is: what are the best books and videos/DVDs on Shotokan Karate? Also, has anyone head of a Shotokan Martial artist named Michael Milon? Who are the "big names" in Shotokan today (meaning most visible in the karate community)? Thanks!
