1) How did you get there? - I always watched my instructor teach class then the summer after i turned 15 my instructor started my on the track to teaching What tips do you have to those wishing to follow in your footsteps? - You cant please everyone. My situation was that i was put in charge of the dojo in replacement of another instructor. I had to make many policy and instructor changes over the past 2 months. everyday i have a complaint but i know what im doing is for the best so i just grin and bear it. 2) What are the down sides that perhaps we might not think of? eg. the hours etc. - You never have a day off. Like any business you are always thinking about how to make it better. Also it can be annoying when you lose your voice lol, but after a while your voice is pretty lose proof. 3) What is the best thing about what you do? - When a little kid comes up to you and hands you a drawing they made for you at school. Or when a parent tells you how you changed their kids lifes. And how many people can say they do the thing they love everyday... and get paid well for it lol

Dont sign up because of the style. You go be taking BJJ with a crappy instructor and learn nothing. Or you could take some random nameless style with an excellent instructor and learn more than all of us put together. Id say go and ask if you can try out a class for free. BTW im going to be biased towards Krav Maga cause i teach it hahha, but all the styles have their pros and cons

2 year black belts?
luckorskill007 replied to tkdman102088's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I think this whole debate really lays on what you consider a black belt as. I can go buy 500 black belts and hand them out to whoever and there you go, black belts. Black belt is more of an emotional and physcological shift towards self betterment. If it takes 2 years for someone to better themselfs then they are a black belt. It might take 30 years. I know some people say- well you cant be a black belt unless you can beat up someone, or break 40 boards. Who cares about wood. My feeling is that black belt is an attitude. You can be a black belt while only achieving an orange belt. Just my 2 cents -
Yea man i have a couple, they are hard to explain so if you need any clarity just ask . 1. Frog Stretch- get on all 4's. spread your knees straight out to the side as far as they will go. If your not feeling it make sure your rear is pushed back at the same time. 2. Over top figure 4. we all know the stretch with one leg out one leg tucked in then you touch your toes. BUT NOW take the leg that is tucked in and pull it over top the straight leg then hug your knee of the bent leg into your chest.

Conditioning for Continuous Sparring
luckorskill007 replied to lordtariel's topic in Health and Fitness
When i was big into sparring my conditioner of choice was jumping rope. Every minute of jumping rope is equal to 3 minutes of jogging. Plus jumping rope will keep you light on your feet which is beneficial in sparring. I would jump rope for however long rounds are, example- 4 minute rounds, do sets of 4 minutes. Over and over. And of course the obviouse conditioning.... just keep sparring. Hope this helped. -

politics within the dojo- need some help!
luckorskill007 replied to karateka200's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Why would 4th and 5th dans be that immature is the real question. When i took class and my instructor payed more attention to another, i would work harder so that i could have recognition. They need to work harder;) -

its all about how you go about things. Here's a personal story- About a year ago a girl started taking taekwondo under my instruction. She was beautiful and smart. I was... energetic. Well she continued taking classes and since me and her were both in relationships we didnt think anything of our attraction. well my and my girlfriend and her and her boyfriend broke up around the same time about 4 months ago. I still liked her and asked her out. We made it clear before anything seriously started that this was going to stay professional and we were going to not make it public. After about a month of teaching her, we were seen together kissing at the mall by students . I thought OMG ITS GOING TO BE A BIG DEAL. well after a week everyone knew and thought it was cute blah blah blah. Well eventually we ended it well because im 18 and shes 23 and our relationship was more physical than emotional . Now Im running a different school but me and her are still friends and I teach her from time to time MORAL OF THE STORY- Relationship are fine as long as you both understand the situation and discuss the professionalism and expectations clearly in the beginning.
