Orange Belt

Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. after obtaining my black belt in tang soo do i have been concentrating on more of my judo recently and have been promoted from 5th kyu blue belt to 4th kyu green belt!
  2. although i do think younger students have talent when they obtain their blackbelt but i def. do not think they should teach adults, if they do teach they should teach younger ages then themselves but still with an adult instructor present. i know as an adult student i would not feel right being taught by anyone under the age of 18! i would just feel like i wasnt learning properly! even back in the traditional old days kids did NOT teach adults! so i guess you could say im more traditional about it. i agree with mma_jim and the brazilian jiu jitsu way about no one obtaining a black belt until 18!
  3. stick with it and you'll get better and better! train as much as you can and all the students may be more terrible than you! lol make sure you practice your drills a lot and your forms a lot! they may get boring but stick with it and you'll be getting better in no time!
  4. those are some good combos! dont forget kicking combos to! here are some i do: -jab, cross, roundhouse -jab, jab, front kick -lead roundhouse to leg, roundhouse to head -cross, jab, lead roundhouse -jab, lead hook, uppercut, clinch and knee -roundhouse, cross, jab, cross, roundhouse make sure you mix up the hitting locations, like hit to the head, body, and legs. but the best advice i can give is practice, practice, practice combos! they will win you the fight! try to keep ur combos at 3 or more strikes because the more u push the more they back and this will give u the opportunities ur looking for like those big KO's u see in the UFC
  5. well the best way to gain confidence in my opinion is just do more and more in sparring, dont be afraid to throw them, if you get hit you get hit just keep up ur guard and let em rip. throw roundhouses often. mix the kicks up in combinations, for example throw a jab, cross, roundhouse or cross, jab, cross, front kick. dont be discouraged that u r using a lot of punches they are very effective in sparring, also pratice more and more kicks on heavy bags, kick them hard and fast. do squats also to help build strength in ur legs so they will be faster. mix up ur stricking of the kicks location, kick to the head, body, and legs (alot if you can or if ur even aloud) i dont know to much about ur style goju ryu do they emphasize on kicking?
  6. welcome
  7. welcome
  8. i go twice a week to karate and 3-5 times a week to kickboxing
  9. combinations! lots of combos and variety! also dont stand in one spot stay mobile and if you get charged dont move backwards move side to side so u can counter attack!
  10. i started cuz i wanted to be able to defend myself as a child and now i still go cuz im training to fight in MMA
  11. well if they are qualified to instruct then i guess its ok but i can see where u r coming from. there is an issue at my school about making an age limit to receive black belt, cuz we have 9-15 year olds with black belt some of which were received in no more than 4 years when this schools testing schedule says it should be obtained in no less than 6 years. a lot of people here think the age limit to receive ur black belt should be 16
  12. my school goes from belt to belt but we have stripes on a few belts that just indicate rank 12th kyu- white 11th kyu- yellow 10th kyu- purple 9th kyu- orange 8th kyu- blue 7th kyu- blue w/ green stripe 6th kyu- green 5th kyu- green w/ red stripe 4th kyu- green w/ 2 red stripes 3rd kyu- red 2nd kyu- red w/ black stripe 1st kyu- red w/ 2 black stripes
  13. true it is. swimming works a ton of muscles in the body and burns a lot of fat but you wont build that 6 pack everyone wants without situps or crunches also
  14. also remember in boxing or kickboxing judges dont just judge on quantity but also quality. they judge on speed, power, damage, placement, control, and defense as well as quantity of attacks
