Well my school is in financial trouble and has been for a while. The problem with the one instructor leaving is that in order to move where he needs to go he needs some more money. Now there is a guy with a big huge Karate school moveing just a block down. And my master is going to "sell the children to him" for a price. And as you know children are what keeps open the schools. The kids can stay if they want to , but if they did my one master would think my other master is underminding him. So my one sensei is between a rock and a hard place. Basically we've done all you've said above in the course of a year. We need 20 adult students just to keep the place running covering the bills. I really think this is the last straw for this place but since i have been so faithful and helped them survive for a while i think i should stick it out till the end. And you should know my master is basically getting 0 income from the school since he started. Thats to clarify the situation.

Our clubs been in trouble for a long time , i just love the place so much and the instructor I just cant bare to contemplate leaving. Its been like this almost in the 1 year of training. It seemed like things were going good more people joining kids classes going great but were back in trouble becuase a instructor is leaving. What would you do in this situation? I know this is a very common thing what did you do? What makes a great kata (form)
Taokara replied to Taokara's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Some good tips but nothing that i didnt know. I have a question if you follow your eyes with your hands on some techniques that will make the technique looks better for a judge or sensei right? -
Ive been doing ma for 2 years im only at orange belt. But you have to remember all schools grade vastly diffrently and at diffrent degrees of difficulty. I think my stances are good , but you can allways improve. I want to push myself hard in every area becuase therefor you will get better in every area. Forms are importent part of training combined with techniques and sparring of course.

Hey guys , I would persoanlly like your opinion on what makes a great kata. Any advice would be good. Plus we could all use this as a refrence for our own forms and improving ourselves.

*Update* Well two days ago in a sparring class i casualy asked my master what i could improve on. He said my technique is good and im fast but I could pull back my foot faster after a kick and throw in more fakes. He also said since im a tall guy i should fight in a lower stance. Well coicedence two days later ^_^ today my other master said well taokara your technique is good but your kata's could look better. I was thinking to myself what can i improve on is there something i dont see in my kata's that im doing wrong. Can you guys give me a opinion on what a good kata looks like.

I personally get fueld by my lack of appreciation and when do they say something good i strive on it but that is very few and far between. Like last week sparing class i watched my master do this one technique so many times ,and i saw a oppening where i could use it the technique was back fist reverse then the guy counters and you use a spinning back kick. One sensei said Ahhhh the kids learning! He was refferring to the other sensei which was like his favourite Technique. These people are actually very good people they joke with me quite a bit. Though one sensei is very old school like i was doing a form and asked for the next bit and he asked me to show what i know. Then he was like you missed the palm heel and i was like no i didnt and i showed him again. I didnt raise my voice or roll my eyes or do any bad body language and he told me to watch my tone and allways show respect to him or he'll kick me with a roundhouse to the head and knock me out. That made me feel very bad the way he said it and i was very upset because thats not really how he is so i strove to do better. My master allways brags about his day when he was in top shape and used to streetfight and all these other things he does. But now that he has a heart condition he cant do that anymore. So personally for me thats a motivator as well.

If i ask him he'll just go oh everyones doing well and hell just beat around the bush without telling me. And i do correct the little things he's telling me. I'm getting kinda frustrated to with the fact that the've both had, 20 30 years at martial arts and ive had 2. And my forms look just as good as theirs do. Maybe there holding back on me becuase they dont want me to be better than them!?

Should you practise more than one martial art
Taokara replied to Lau gar's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My Advice to you is That you First get pretty compitable with one art and then blend a totally opseing style so you become a well rounded fighter. Like say take tai chi Kungfu (internal and external art) and then blend it with jujitsu (controlling techniques) and maybe a little bit of wing chung (close combat fighting lotta ground work.) -
Lately I have been pretty frustrated with how my master fills me in about my progress or lack there of. I mean He never tells me how he thinks im doing or what im doing right and if he does tell me something its usually something little that im doing wrong its like the teeniest little things he picks on me with. In my mind I think im doing good but im doubting it becuase my master is not filling me in. My questions are How can i make him be more open. , And Does this happen with you and for all you sensei's out their do you do this to your students? "I am 14 years old and am very tough and hard " You are to C*O*C*K*Y for any martial art to do well in my opinion you should try boxing though. Or Muay Thai. [ This Message was edited by: Taokara on 2002-04-28 10:50 ] [ This Message was edited by: Taokara on 2002-04-28 10:50 ]

Please give me some tips on range fighting i get hit to many times when i shouldnt get hit tips appreciated. My Master says whenever they move back you should move forward and smother them and when they move forward you should either smother them or retreat. I would also like some opinions if i should emulate my masters moves his stuff is very effective and whatever is good i have the attitude i should take it and see if it works for me. Is this correct?
