Well Im doing Southern Mantis Style Its definetly Alot like wing chun My master Learned alot of 7 star mantis and another mantis style wich you dont have listed. Its a very good system from what I can tell The southern styles seem more effective then the northen styles. It focuses on alot of trapping.

My Instructor allways picks me to demonstrate techniques with in front of the class. And I have Absolute no idea why. I think im fairly average calibur student. I just wish i wouldnt get picked all the time since i cant see the move right to do it with someone else. Can you help me out on figuring why this is and why you choose someone to demonstrate moves.

Just keep at it Percistence is key in the martial arts you WILL get there. Strech kicks are very good to get flexable and maybe if you do them fast enough for heart rate increase. Just take your leg and throw it up as high as you can but not kick in the front do it a few times on each leg side and back .

Kata is very useful to tone your body and put mind spirit and body together. It is also useful when remembering techniques it is a intergral part of almost any art.

My first lesson...
Taokara replied to Seth's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Break falling to not get hurt and rolling out of moves in grappling is veryy importent. Do not let your ego get in the way or you will get hurt. Also allways tap out when you feel pain. I hope you have a good time in your ju jitsu classes -
The Strange Feeling..........
Taokara replied to Kensai's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well oviously as you get better and progress your technique it doesnt take less effort it just looks as if that. Just like this example young kid very good at high kicks awesome speed and power spars a old man practitionar of that art the old man woops the young boy because of his years of experience and his awesome technique. -
Gung fu or Kung fu

Ninjitsu Vs. Tai Chi
Taokara replied to inyctrotter's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Im sure the better fighter would win. But Tai chi doesnt get the credit it deserves as a fighting art. Mostly you just see the health benefits of tai chi with old people But in fact There forms have huge technique breakdowns which are very effective and which do not require strength to do. Ninjitsu on the other hand is mostly stealth and weapons and the practitioner would create his own techniques. which suit his body -
As x said maybe you should but i probly wouldnt.

Hey I do kungfu and im going to a tournament wich will just have karate people judges. So i can make up stuff in my forms that they wont know. Will yelling and slapping legs makeing sounds and breathing impress them. Basically what can i do to make my form look better to these karate judges.

Now this is my Personal opinion and as so do not flame me. I think that Tkd is a weak martial art Style and Is not Effective in its techniques. It is more for sport and not practical style. All the high kicking nonsense is a joke a kick shouldnt go past your head most of the time should stay at waist level. The fact that there is litte hand striking in tkd also makes technique Irelevent. Ill give a few compliments to Tkd It looks like great exercise and highly motivational looking. And the forms look awesome. Id like to hear you guys arguements.

Warning Sighns of a dieing Martial Arts school
Taokara replied to Taokara's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well there has been big drop off in memberships just going up and down lately. And there is a DEFFINET lack of Interest for the instructor teaching the students. I like it here and all but i dont want to train at a school that doesnt have enthusiams and no people in my age group Training. Its just that the problem is my mom wont change until the place is totally closed up. -
Why did you join the martial arts?

My Parents Allways watched Those old Kungfu Movies and Bruce lee movies. I was allways exposed to alot of tv violence at a very young age. I have been interested in them all my life from watching those movies. I allways wanted to do it but my mom said we didnt have enough money. so when i turned 13 as a birthday present she put me in a martial arts dojo now i eat live and sleep kungfu. -
My dojo is allso carpeted but we are not wimps and wear shoes though some of the members of the club do. They seem to prefer the addidas brand there light weight thing sole and heavy duty supposedly.

My Sensei trained under him and he is supposed to be one of the best in the world yet I have never seen any of you talk about him. He was a acupuncture point karate master. Can anyone give me more info on him?
