  1. As a instructor I have had several students that have smoked. One who even won the Show Me State games in fighting. I often told him he would be a even better fighter if he would quit. Smoking is very detremental to ones health and it stinks! I have told my students that I better never catch them smoking while in uniform.
  2. Master Eubanks was truly a great Martial Artist and Promoter! He will be missed by many!
  3. Welcome and God Bless!
  4. Welcome aboard!
  5. I am trying to contact my original Sensei. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the Information I have: Sensei Jose V. Sandoval 4th Dan Goju Ryu Taught at Western Avenue Community Center Bloomington, IL Was very active in the USKA in the late 80's If anyone has any information please e-mail me.
  6. Welcome!!!
  7. In the old AKA and USKA circuits it was common for for competitors to have broken noses, cracked ribs or other injuries. I was a common thing and competitors knew what they were up against. We knew when we put on that Black Belt and stepped across the line we better be ready to act like Black Belts. These tournaments today are a game of tag. There is no real martial arts to it. What we have now is gymnast acting like martial artist. I say Keep Going WKF!!! At least we won't have to see the wannabe's at the WKF tournaments!
  8. I let the kids play foot tag.. everyone tucks their hands in their belt and plays tag using their feet. The kids love it.
  9. I also use the term round kick or round punch. I personally never heard of a roundhouse and I've been in martial arts 33 years.
  10. I learned Seiunchin as a purple belt over 20 years ago and it is still my favorite Goju Ryu kata. I practice Seiunchin everyday and is the only kata I do in competition. I have won many tournaments with it.
  11. Hello and Welcome!
  12. Welcome!!!!
  13. Welcome!!!
  14. How do i tell if the school really is the same and not some wannabe Kyokushin school? Ask questions and research who they trained with. Post their name on here and see if anyone in Kyokushin knows them.
  15. Both.. Think about the Crusades, The Spanish Inquistion, The Holocaust, Ethnic Cleasing in Bosnia. All atrocities done by so called Christians. How could they possibly have a problem with Martial Arts.
  16. Personally I think those that question hoe you can be a christian and still be in the Martial Arts should stop for a minute and think about the millions of people throughout history that have been killed in the name of Christ. It kinda goes against their christian beliefs.
  17. We have 22 Kata to Shodan. The Shodan form has 322 moves.
  18. Kyokushin is a excellent system. some do still spar full contact. You will like Kyokushin
  19. this may be a issue where it would be better to refer him to a different instructor. After 10 years and he hasn't progressed past the 6-8 month level, it may be time to move on. there may be someone better qualified to work with him or a different style that is more suited to his needs.
  20. One thing most people don't realize is the title Sifu is actually a higher title than Master in traditional Kung Fu systems. As far as training in the temples of china, that isn't really nexessary to be a master since the best martial arts is here in the USA.
  21. One thing to consider too is if you wish to increase you movement and besome more graceful. If this is the case look in to aikido. Also Shotokan may be a good fit as well. Best of luck!
  22. I have had similar situations in my classes before. Your reaction was not too harsh. Our responsibilities as instructors is not just to teach but to protect our students too. I believe I would acted the same way. I have suspended students for 2 weeks, made them do puch ups, revoked sparring priviledges and made them clean the dojo. It depends on the severity of the action. I have even kicked students out of class permanently. I think you did the right thing.
  23. Novenber 25, 2005 - Pat Morita, Mr. Miyagi, has passed away. Although Pat Morita had no formal training in Karate, His role as Mr. Miyagi inspired many young men and women to run to their nearest dojo to sign up for classes. As an instructor, the role of Mr. Miyagi inspired me to work harder to be a better Sensei and a better person. We will miss Pat Morita and forever be grateful for what he did for martial arts.
  24. It is probably even worse than you think. I have seen Black belts brawling outside the ring. It looked like WWF. Thank God there are those of us "Old Timers" that want real Karate and Martial Arts brought back. True Martial Arts is about humility and respect and ego's and flash have no room in real martial arts!
  25. It is hard for Japanese, Okinawan and Korean Stylist to judge chinese soft style weapons. I myself usually bow out and let someone else judge. However when I do judge chinese weapons. I like to see the double broad swords and the whirling spear.
