He's a really nice guy also and hilarious, my instructor and him are very good friends and he came to my dojo a couple of times for a seminar and stayed the night we went for dinner, and the next mourning he decides he wants to go golfing... so we all go golfing and we rent a cart and he says 'I feel sooooooo stiff this mourning' so he lifts his leg up and rests it on the golf cart roof and takes a sip of coffee... what a character.lol

I feel its very important to practice and throw your tecniques with commitment, and to have some contact when doing kumite.. you also have to practice equally how to 'attack' and defend one without the other equals zero..

Testing blues over
IronWarrior replied to dtstiachi's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Remember its always about the 'journey' never get down on yourself if you fail a grading, get up and try again! just like life, you learn something about yourself at each grading, its not about the rank! but the 'spirit' of challenge and bushido 'samurai spirit' if you carry that in your heart you will never feel upset if you lose..you will just try harder next time .. good luck.OSU! -
Not the greatest... last in there division right now.. but they won there last 2 outings! go Bruins!

The thing some people dont relize about fighting on the street is you never want to stand and exchange punches and kicks, like a full contact match...why? your putting yourself at risk to get hurt seriously when you start exchanging blows even if your the better fighter you still are most likely going to receive a few shots and it only takes 1 sometimes to hurt you bad or worse if it connects right and if you have the guys buddies around theyw ill take that chance to jump in and beat you down, always best to deflect clinch and tie them up and finich with a strike or break and arm after a trap e.t.c... also the street theres no gloves, referees to protect you from injury, corner men e.t.c.. who gets out alive gets to go home.. theres no winners, its very sad to see.

I have rank in 2 arts '3rd dan' Karate and Traditional Japanese Jujitsu, but I have dabbled and trained with people in other arts and picked up the basics well and added it to my Martial arts, these arts include.. Wing Chun, Hapkido, Most forms of grappling in some way..BJJ, shoot wrestling, judo 'trained with a judo bb for about 2 years' kook sool won, tang so do.. I dont claim to know those arts inside out.lol of course not I just trained for a long period of time with people from those arts so it influenced me in some way.

Hockey eh!.. love it! always liked Boston.

Yes I have heard of it! I'am not a expert in it, but I have heard from several sources in the medical field that it is quite possible and can happen with years of hitting hard objects e.t.c.. its the risk you take I guess.

Eventual all belts lose there colour over time just like clothing and the fraying is also normal 'over time' as well.

You can always try Wing Chun.

We dont have a 'set' number that you must know, but you have to know all your tecniques from your katas e.t.c. and be able to apply them when asked to in your grading in a 1 or 2 step kumite, the sensei will tell the attacker to attack 'roundhouse step in punch e.t.c.' and you have to block, block then counter using tecniques of your choice.

Nighthawks! I loved that movie!!!

Where exactly is the pain? is it in the base or center of the muscle? or at an insertion 'where 2 muscles meet' that would answer alot of questions if its serious or not also.

You may want to check out the methods of 'Enshin Karate' they focus alot on the 'Sabaki Method' sweeping, setting up sweeps, and getting your opponent of balance for a sweep e.t.c.. e.t.c.. I've used alot of the methods in my training over the years and its worked well for me..good luck

Is your sensei 'registered' with a Goju Ryu orgainization? if he is or was contact that orgainization they may be able to locate him? or do a phone directory search e.t.c... good luck

If people want to do that type of training its there choice! Personally I prefer the 'Kyokushin Knockdown' more traditional based type of fighting instead of the mixed striking/grappling you see alot of today.. No...NHB is not 'traditional Martial art' its more of a 'contact sport concept' but the people that pursue NHB training are not looking to learn a Martial Art they usually want to train to get in shape or train to fight in those type of events...What I do notice though from years ago is NHB events are starting to become like the 'WWE' with there reality based shows like 'Ultimate Fighter' e.t.c.. which is not good for there image 'from some of the antics I've seen from the show'.

Timing is very important when setting up sweeps, when they step and there foot is off the ground about a inch for that split second, make your move 9 times out of 10 if you time it right there going down!

Drunken Kung Fu
IronWarrior replied to Jake90's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Moving into Druken style from Shotokan.... well your going to have to change alot! as a Martial Artist thats for sure!wow! I would stick with the Shotokan it would be much easier to make the transition to say... Wing Chun being a Shotokan Stylist then to a style like Druken Kung fu, again this is just based on 'my' years of experience e.t.c..good luck in you journey. -
If its a 'Kyoksuhin rules' tournament' low kicks, knees and no face punches, then.... there coming into your domain! shotokan 'traditional' dos'nt focus on the low round kick or defending against it so they may have trouble with you in that department.. Just go fight 'your' fight and dont worry what they can do or cant do..good luck
