How important is lineage in your MA training?
IcemanSK replied to IcemanSK's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks orion, I didn't pay attention to that thread before. -
I don't want to start a poll, per se. I'm just wondering if it matters to you (or is important to you) who your instructor (or instructor's instructor) is. That your instructor trained under a certain person (or that hey trained X champion in the past. Did they with train someone famous? (eg. They trained at the same school as Bill Wallace). If it isimportant to you, tell us some stories of who you are "decendent" of.

Fight like a man?!

Years ago, I remember a tv interview w/ a Hapkido instructor. He was asked, "Would you take off your glasses, if you were in a fight on the street?" He smiled & said, "The fight wouldn't last that long." In 23 years of martial arts, I've never been in a fight on the street. I pray I never need to. But if necessary, I would use whatever I needed to do to end it quickly. -

Has Dawn Barnes been mentioned yet? -
While I haven't ried that model, I've used that style & had good results. I've used Ringside's kickboxing cup & it works quite well. And its easy to put on & take off, too.

The lightning bolt in church won't happen. You're a master in the dojang. You know that, & God knows that, too. You come across as a level-headed, decent guy, MasterH. You know who is master of what. -

I've only seem Tiger claw foam boots (years ago) & wasn't impressed. But they have good stuff, huh? Are their V-neck uniforms ok? -
Yes sir, Thank you.
-
I'm glad to hear that they're at least nice. I figured they don't compare to the "heavy hitters". I was just wondering if they're better than the average canvas uniforms.

I ordered my belt from Eosin Panther (I talked w/ the owner first to make sure I had the right length) & it came in the mail 10 minutes ago. It looks great!!!! He even helped me by asking me if I wanted it stiff or soft. He said," Karate people tend to like them stiff. TKD people tend to like them soft." I'm a TKD guy who trains with karate guys, so I knew what he meant. Stiff belts: The ends stick out more. Soft belts: Hang & look more natural.Soft tend to stay tied longer, too.(Not like your white belt that looked limp after a while. Just more natural) I didn't know about it until he told me. Thanks for the help guys. I'd recommend it to anyone.
