  1. It is kind of odd looking I guess
  2. Yes, it is fighter training so you could compare it to boxing in a way. There aren't really opportunities for grabs.
  3. I was wondering if Tai Chi skills such as ward off or basic push hands could be performed/used effectively while sparring with gloves on.
  4. Definately Bolo Yeung. That guy has a very unique style and he inspired me to start weight lifting.
  5. It is spiritually fulfilling, fun, and pushing past my limits. Competition means little to me though. As Lao Tsu once said, "Mastering others is strength, Mastering yourself is true POWER."
  6. Oh, and don't feel bad about meditating and being a Christian. Although I consider my philosophy on life to be a mix between Daoist, Buddhist, and Hindi any religion can use meditation.
  7. Meditation is truly a beautiful experience if you can enter into it. Your question about not being able to feel pain during meditation is that you will feel it but it feels good. In other words, it is simply there. One method I used to do, but have stopped because it leaves a bad scar is getting someone I know who is a smoker to burn his ciggarette out on my leg, or arm, etc. The technique is to center yourself into the pain, and concetrate on the fact that it is your body that is being burnt. This can also be done with a pin, I suggest that you first become proficient at getting into a state of meditation before attempting this. However, when done the feeling of the burn is good! To get into meditation, try sitting in a comfortable position with your back straight and as you breath in, send your breath into your stomach into the dan tian region. When the breath goes in, your conscious should follow. As you breathe out, follow it out and gently pull in your abdomen. This is a Buddhist technique and it really works well. Just try to find that point where the breath is neither coming in or leaving. That point is where you are. It might help to visual your breath as chi which is what practicioners of neikung or chikung do often. Good Luck my friend.
  8. That's some nice kung fu there.
  9. Thank you my friend. I appreciate your compliment.
  10. Races don't exist. Remember there is only the human race. A skin color is a COLOR, nothing more. A person is a person, not a stereotype. Pride in a race is stupid, and hatred agaisnt one is the ultimate stupidity.
  11. He who obtains has little, he who scatters has much. -Lao Tsu Seek not and you will find. -Lao Tsu An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind. -Gandhi
  12. Hahaha, very true animal...Fruits are what you need for cardiovascular activity and can even be beneficial to eat before you do weight training. They don't do much to repair your body though. Great fuel basically.
  13. Hard to tell man...I guess I would say real.
  14. Its about meditation...Osho's concepts and methods are very interesting and they work.
  15. An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind. -Gandhi
  16. Skill over muscle anyday!! That's a no-brainer.
  17. Wushu is simply the Chinese term for martial arts...
  18. Try extinguishing a candle with your punches. Land your fist about 5-7 inches away from the flame. It is exhausting!
  19. I used to smoke both cigarettes and marijuana up until about 6 months ago...Luckily I found meditation, martial arts, and the spiritual aspect of life. Yes, life should be lived in moderation just as the buddha says, but, smoking and drinking are wrong and should not be done.
  20. For anyone that would suggest using a gun to take care of the group of attackers you are in the wrong. Smart thing would be to call the cops and call for help. Unless you are proficient in your ma, or the attackers are just horrible fighters, you would be wise to run.
  21. Bloodsport, but only because of Bolo, and the whole Once Upon a Time in China series. The kung fu is over the top but some of it is pretty cool. The original Drunken Master with Jackie Chan is pretty good as well.
  22. Bolo is in A LOT of kung fu movies! Some good ones are Chinese Hercules, Enter the Dragon, Breathing Fire, Bloodsport and Image of Bruce Lee. Now don't get me wrong, these movies with the exception of Bloodsport and Enter the Dragon are all low quality, but his ma is pretty fun to watch in them!
  23. I listen to Rocky, or else "A Man Should Help Himself" (the song from the begining of Once Upon a Time in China)
  24. I agree 100%. My sifu always says that it is sad how people have lost the true intention of Taiji as a fighting art, not just an exercise.
