Effective Against Multiple Attackers?
h2whoa replied to keith_aquino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would only run untill I found suitable ground, or untill I got to a crowded area or saw a cop if it was possible! By suitable ground I mean A place with room or a place with my back to a wall and all my opponents in front of me! Running and fighting and running and fighting is not a good idea!! -

Fighting a Boxer
h2whoa replied to shaolin10's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Kick their legs out from under them! Boxers need their legs to accumulate power! -
Andrew Geen To hit my face you need to be within striking range, and i would also not be standing back. If you were that close inside my punching rangeyou would meet quite a surprise on the way down, my fist coming up! I believe that speed and co ordinated power are the keys to sucess! Whitewarlock That is what i meant, if you aere foolhardy, then i have won!! Do you think that confrontation is physical or mental! I dont stand around or dance around taking "pot shots". Stationary counter striking!! The takedowns are possibly Judo style throws? I could be wrong! i have some grappling back ground so i know whats happening that is my advantage! As for the elbow strike i was refering to leg takedowns! As an example!! I apologise!! Never said that I was a purist, in this day and age that would be Purely Stoopid!! All that Im saying is that striking to anger yopur opponent is good, counterstriking is good, I hate to be grounded so strike as much as you can to cause injury. I kick th hands stomp the feet etc. Hey if my feet can break boards they can break fingers! The momentum will do them in! And as for the slam, Break falls my friend! I train with a commonwealth gold medalist in Judo, and with some wrestlers! Yes it is what you do in the clinch, i agree, but strikebefore all this goes down on the chance that you will KO him! But if we go to ground Im ready!!

Being hard on yourself... good or bad?
h2whoa replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In the end the enemy is yourself!! -
Well tuff, ihope that works when you let your assailant take a fall, because your muscle memory doesnt allow your leg to sweep back far enough or yor hands to snap forward fast enough, or you cant grab an arm because they are not wearing a do bok!! For your sake and safety please remember technique 19 of the 18 technique!

I am not in the special forces, but our instructors are!! They train in their dojang in the way they believe that will help you survive in the streets. The classes are mainly accountants, students, lawyers etc, we just train hard. Hey man if you cant take the heat......!! People attacking you are unpredictable so it pays to train with the unpredictable. Do you agree??

Would this work? (good read i'd say)
h2whoa replied to mourning_'s topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It would work to help you get out of bear hugs, or grapples if you are on top!! -
Not mid fall that would be stupid!! I mean going through one movement than when he thinks i will do it again, i do something different. So i change from the beggining of the technique. If he is paying attention he wont get hurt. It keeps people on their toes, and i would pit my fellow HKD students ability to break fall against anyones. I embrace the pain, I love it!! My class is small made up of the Fiji special forces, so it can be pretty hardcore!!

My example of lewis is only trying to say that kepping someone at bay tiring them, striking their extremities, hands, feet. quick strikes to anger them, their is alot more to a fight than take downs and snaps, or straight knockout punches! If my opponent is angry, than i have already won. I have never believed in "dancing" because you set youself off balance. I like to stand my ground, a shot exposes the top of the head, a well timed elbow could wipe your opponent out. I know you UFC fans and grapplers wont admit it, but grappling is not air tight! Neither is striking for that matter but their are ways to prevent a shot and a grappler is nothing without his shot, or being able to come in close to excecute throws. I also have studied Judo for four years and hapkido so grounding and joint locks and arm/leg bars are also a part of my arsenal, but wearing a grappler down angering him and stinging his ego, then if he takes me to the ground, Im ready for him there as well!!

best techniques to end a fight
h2whoa replied to Ryan gry's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
White Warlock what were your sources for your statement on fiji law! Do you or do you not agree that a person can be killed with a single punch? They could fall and crack their heads for example! So would it not be prudent to prepare for that scenario and take them out before they take you out! I would prefer not to kill, but this thread is about effective moves and kill blows are very effective! -

Hapkido effectiveness
h2whoa replied to ravenzoom's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
The hapkido we train in, has anything but static opponents. In the begginers range we do all the grab break out, takedown, strike basics. But unless you learn to apply it to, street style attacks, uppercuts, hook punches. You will have a small chance of survival. If you attempt a grab that misses, dont step back and say "Its over now!" If you miss hit him with an elbow technique or Hapki One (my personal favourite) nothing fancy, leave that stuff for Jet Li!! -
