  1. There is alot of idle chatter, if you come up against a man/woman of superior strength, height etc. The only thing that will help you survive is tactics. When i am visualising, my attacker is always bigger, stronger and faster than me. The questions than becomes how do I take that strength? How do I slow them down? To beat a superior opponent a fine understanding of body mechanics is vital! I know I have said this alot but, body builders/ or generally muscly guys, have pushed their nerves closer to the skin. Striking nerve bundles is an easy way to "kill" apendages and cause great discomfort () ! It will boil down to your ability to out last your opponent, it will boil down to your training. Remember its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog!! So sit quietly in your meditation time, visualise yourself defeating goliath! Figure out how you would do it! And train for it!!
  2. He doesnt stop me, and is interested in joining me! It is weird to see your instructor staning next to you, bowing to someone else in a white belt!!
  3. Well, that was interesting. I wouldnt like to meet up with those guys. The screaming like a maniac would be quite intimidating. They seem to have got pretty efficient with the batons. I thought it was funny, but I cant knock something someone else believes would work! I like the swining trees idea as a training tool, or maybe hanging some heavy bags on my sons jungle gym!! I think that style would work against multiple attackers. My reason: they dont stand still long enough! To call them fools and idiots is not right. I do wonder why they are only striking heads in that last demo bit???
  4. Thats true!! I think the general feeling is that purist martial artists are a dying breed!!
  5. A knee is a deadly weapon to have in your arsenal, I have the discussion with the bjj advocates. They say that the knee would never knock out a true grappling/submission master. I think that these people believe that a black belt makes them perfect, I think that a grandmaster could have an off day!!
  6. I have to agree, its a principle. Just because youve grabed an arm in a way you are not used to doesnt mean he wont flip when you twist it. The difference between the people who learn Self Defence and those who learn technique, is that the self defence student understands the principles of body mechanics
  7. My philosophy is never get between two guys fighting, people have a tendancy to shoot the messanger! Lets say you try to break it up, then your in the middle of of two guys having an adrenaline dump, ready to go through you to get to the guy they want. Can you say hello multiple attackers . Or you could step in the middle when one of them is attempting a stab, and get killed for your trouble . Unless you or your allies are in danger, I would say dont get involved!! But hey thats just me i guess!! Sorry that wasnt supposed to be quoted
  8. Which Service, Navy, airforce.....
  9. Kara, my sensei would have a FIT!!
  10. Which country do you fight for Karate25?
  11. Your body should be conditioned enough that a block is a strike!!
  12. My Dojo has turned out a commenwealth champion! More of a question really!
  13. four years of Judo and I have yet to see a strike!! Even then I dont think that Judo strikes would be more a distraction to help control a opponent into throw position, as a blow!!
  14. Why, are you interested in the military? Our master just left to train the Seattle SWAT, our school travels and teaches the art to armed forces, In Fiji we are training the military, navy and police, so we need to be upith protocol etc!
  15. Thats what I said, if someone is verbally abusive and calls you names and your pride wont let it be, you could get killed!!
  16. Judo has no punches, hapkido has kicks that are aimed at the legs, instep thighs etc. This would weaken them to be able to excecute throws. Strike pressure points and joint locks and breaks. As for the throws they are exactly the same. HKD will also enable you to take down by grabbing strikes, in case you cant gey in gor the throw. TKD is a art that has little punching as well, but a great number of kicks, but I train it to compliment my Karate which is SD and competition. Everytime I have had to defend myself it has always been with Judo and HKD!!
  17. I doubt that the starter of this thread is very old!!
  18. Politics is the work of satan!!!! Now having said that, I am training in four martial arts, anytime I have a function I invite them all to my home. I chose my instructors very carefully and am glad to report that they do join me in training with the other masters. Also when the changes take place in my style, the subtle shift of the feet when you excecute a throw or kick, my masters actually ask me why i excecuted that way! This makes me question it and learn it better!! If I trained with closed minded individuals, i would find a new trainer!
  19. I think that ninjitsu is a philosophy, rather than a set of formd or patterns. Historically Ninjas were spies and stealth assains! Their are many misconceptions about ninjas, like their uniforms are actually red because red and black are both invisible in the dark, it is also red for hiding injuries and showing up undetected at a campfire in red would give anyone a heart attack!! Once you learn how to sneak and kill with stealth you will be .... Ninja like!! I am not saying that is all their is to being a ninja, but sneaking killimg and leaving no trace of ever being their is really all threi is to it, nothing mystical or magikal!! However claiming to be a ninja and making money out of it, is bad!! I train with the armed forces, i am pretty efficient with my stealth and camoflague, does it make me a ninja.. NO... but i woul say it is basically the same!! To any ninjas oout here I have deepm respect for you and if I am wrong I will be corrected, providing that you have evidence!!
  20. Pride in your achievments, not arrogance is good!! Pride stopping you from avoiding confrontation will get you killed!!
  21. Hapkido is a great form of SD, compared to TKD, and mixes well with JUDO!!
  22. I go to the dojo to train, not look at women, all women in your dojo should be treated as sisters! I say no because if it goes bad one of you will top training. How would you feel if she was attacked because she stopped coming to train (because you broke her heart), and couldnt apply the technique properly and just peeved her assailant off!! Just train in the dojo find your women elsewhere!!
  23. Maybe you realise that martial art is not for you! I find visualising yourself performing perfect forms and kicks and strikes is a good motivator to overcome laziness (I think we all get lazy sometimes)!! If not take a complete break, after a while you will feel like you will absolutely die, if you dont get back into the training hall!! Tell me how it works out for you!
  24. We fight women, we fight hard, we grapple and pull their hair, control them using locks and chokes, we send them home with bloddy noses and a sore body, and teh women, in my dojang at least, come back again for more next session!! Go the ladies!!
