im just wondering about the different types of karate, and what the basis of each is and how they differ from eachother. so if anyone would be so kind as to differentiate that would be great!!!!
-
i train with fans. usefull for todays self defense, heck yeah, ill try to get you guys a video of me vs a jin(straight sword). fans are perfect for tai chi and bagua, specially if you learn joint strikes jlocks and changes. in the right persons hands they can be just as efective if not even more than a sword.
-
i already know how to use the fans. ive never seen a tonfa in action. guess ill have to google it. im kinda stuck on the kamas though "there pretty sweet"
-
well after training on the fan for a while its time to start on a new weapon. i was wondering what you guys though of the kamas? they look like they could be effective, but a lot of the vids i see are ppl just twirling them around and being flashy. info please!!

that video posted in this topic only backs up my statement. as for superior taichi styles. dunno each has its ups and downs and different aspects. wudang is not "considered" a branc of tai-chi but in all aspects it is, same with bagua. wudang, wu style, and yang style are the top styles in tai chi. on and sun style is not just a collab of yang and bagua, but a collab of yang, bagua, wu, chi na,and a bit of plumb blossom thrown in. it is a more recent branch of tai chi and is "very" focused on martial aplications. like i said before all tai chi is effective in combat.
-
this is a timeless argument, and it has been answered many times. but once again ill say it. YES tai chi can and is effective agains ALL mma's and other styles. everyone percives tai chi as being practiced slow and used slow, this is not the case, the slow practice is for perfection and familiarity in the moves stances, and confidance. it is not always used slow. some of the tai chi we see today is kind of un-rooted<-- if you get what im saying, but its still kinda close. the sad part is the ppl who practice it, and dont back up their style, sad times, same is seen with capoeria

u can block with a straightsword, just be careful what u block against, or more correctly deflect.

oh oh oh me me me, i would fight sapp. but then again i am 6'6 200+ lbs. but its not cause my weight. all body shots exept for the last one. what would my target area be......... lungs solar plexus 12th ribb everything that had to do with breathing. and then i would work his kidneys after that i would wear his chin down. if he decided to rush me i would simply step aside and knee him in the kidneys. in case he did get a grasp on me, i would get as close a distance to him i could take away the oppertunity for him to give face shots and i would knee the heck out of his ribs and abdomen. thats jus me though.

straight sword. more agile, and deceptive. not realy a matter of being good or not (skill does count, dont get me wrong), but more an issue of having faith in your style. broadsword doesnt seem that heavy to me but i do prefer straight as i said before. never had any trouble aginst katanas,bo's, or spears. i did have trouble aginst the twin hooks, naginata, and my own personal favorite the fans.

its real hard to find vids and such on the ropedart. there is a master in china, i do beleive it is, that had some vids released but the government owns the rights and wont reshelf them. for the most part ppl say wath movies with sequences in them and then learn that way. im shure there are some ppl in the us that know how to use them a lil bit or maybe a lot but the problem is finding them. good luck with your search. wushu and some kung fu is where u will find them the most.

if they are long and skinny with a ring in the middle and what looks to be two spear shapes at the end u are talking about emrie peircers or something like that. there is a major weapons supplier on the net that carries exotic weapons or something like that just type it into yahoo. youll find them.
-
u know i was wondering about this as when i run (when i run) i get a pain in my lower back but i also have a bad back. i was reading mens helth mag at work on my break and it stated that when u run u should land on the back part of the ball of your foot, lean forward when u run, and try not to bounce. dont know if thatlll help but it was worth a shot.

chain whips are easy to disrupt and most of the time when u do they get tangled. mostly despite the flashy katas they are used for trapping and binding. the defenses mentiond are probably the best shoe etc etc. u can fight a chain whip for its like a snake, the head does most of the damage. once u catch it with your arm or disrupt it its useless.

im convinced my appt has an EVIL spirit in it or maybee even a demon. had some pretty scary dreams surrounding it. also my family has a history of ghosts and spirits. and where i am from(WV) is i think 85% or so haunted. theres even a book on it. "Tale tales from the lilac bush" is what it is called i do beleive.

yeah i can make things or if i cant i have a few resources. im also working on an expanding bo but i want it to start at maybee 3 feet and expand to double that. dunno i love to try even if it doesnt work chalk it up for experiance.

wow here i go. taiji, tai chi is the basis for most kung fu/gung fu. from wu shu to hung garr, to northern shaolin. tai chi is very dangerous but a lot of the fighting aspect has been watered down/ forgotten just like some of the systems of gung fu. for whomever posted the thing about the rohda. yes the rohda is sparring. for whomever said they are looking for someone in the midwest that practices taiji to sparr against i might just be able to fullfill your request. taiji is considerd a fighting art but because of the level of "enlightenment" fighting was avoided as it was considered beneath the practitioner. reason for the practicing being slow heres one for ya........ which is stronger a concrete mold that is set and then immediatly built apon, or a mold that is set and allowed to harden throughly and then build apon???? oh and i forgot about the dim mak thing. when i was a lil neno i first heard about the dim mak and i had my doubghts so i went to my science teacher and asked if it was medically possible, with a big smile on her face she told me to hold out my arm palm facing upward. she then struck a point on the inside of my forearm and i was not able to bend my arm or wiggle my finger for a few seconds. take that story for what its worth weather u beleive it or not just cause YOU cant see something dont think its not true. and on a side not i do beleive there was someone out in cali a few years ago a master or grand master i forget that claimed to know it, and coincadentaly his teacher was banned from a province china for using it in a fight which it was felt could have been avoided.
-
ok ive seen a lot posted on here about fighting fans. ive been doing a lot of reaserch on them since im trying to take up the form myself, but i have been delayed by the teacher going through some personal problems. i can get u one vid, its more a tai chi style vid. i might be able to contact some of the upper ranking masters and students to answer(why does that look like its spelled wrong) any questions or try to get video clips for the ones wondering.
-
when i get the plans complete ill have an exta made if ud like(no charge)just tell me what u would like (if any) design put on the fabric and ill see about getting it done!!!!

the fan is very effective weapon close or open. if u find a good iron one it can stand up to a true katana blade. and yes they do hurt like hell. they are mostly used in close combad(locking and striking) the wrist, shoulderblades, temples, schins, inner thigh, armpits,...well u get the point. and are an effective defense against most weapons including the spear and bo.
-
chain whip is a very useful weapon in defense and offensive weapon. just depends on the user. remember it can be used for trapping.
-
hey im new to the site. the fan is a beautiful weapon. if u want the tai chi style video for the fan i can get u a very nice lenght one. i am currently trying to learn fan but i have a very predominat tai chi teacher out here in colorado that teaches a lot of chinese based arts. let me know if u are still around and want the vid. oh yeah also check out the plumb-blossum and mulan style fan.

well since i use a fan i would have to say a fan. and a fan in history has been noted to overtake a lot of swords. only the highest and most respected instructors and military ranks carried fans. most of the time they were used to coordinate sections of a batalion. are they effective as a weapon? yes my fan(tessen) is the iron one and can break a bone easily, can fend off the sharp edge of a sword, and is not considerd a conseale, or even a weapon of sort where i live. im about to redo the webbing of my fan when i find the right color material. if u do go this route i would suggest starting out with a bamboo one as they are good for learning basic form.
