People being awkward/angry towards MA
Sengra replied to ProjectJanus's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
To add to this, alot of people when they think of the martial arts, they also think of movie martial arts, which ironically seems to have hurt Martial arts credibility rather than bolster it's respect in the mainstream populace. People look at that and say, "it's just movie magic....they even made Keanu Reeves look awesome!" I could not agree more... -
nice...as long as its used in defense...^_^

No, not curses, sorry, I should have used 'corrupt' spanish..It's spanish in some sense but with a different meanings...I really can't say much..sorry again..
-
Very few in Philippines speak Spanish. It's a dying language in Philippines because it has been replaced by English. Zauriel, Kababayan...I know that there is a form of spanish being spoken in the southern Philippines where I come from, a "vulgar" spanish...Chavacano...I'm not really sure what's the difference, though I speak a little spanish,as I speak Cebuano myself...and you're right, many Filipino words were borrowed from the Spanish language, such as our term for table, lamesa, which in spanish means 'the table'. Yeah, Escrima comes from 'esgrima', the spanish term for fencing...

Well, I also carry with me my mobile phone...and it helps knowing the emergency numbers of your local area, I mean in case of an emergency, like when you're wounded after a fight even if you escape, knowing emergency numbers could spell the difference between life and death..^_^

Actually, learning MA's here in my country is very much acceptable...that sometime's people start to brag, but the self-discpline you get from MA's is very much welcomed by everybody. I myself feel very comfortable and safe when I'm with a MA practitioner...^_^... -
well, I've read a book about arnis, and it specified there that arnis could be taught with one or two sticks...but yeah, you made a good point there why_worry...^_^
-
Oh...sorry...well, actually, in the southern Philippines, the army and the police work in close cooperation and most of them carry guns...but I guess those men that I saw were still officers in training, as I have seen older officers carry guns, even M16's...
-
yeah..nice one...you can make a range of weapons then...^_^...you're good...
-
Weapons do provide advantages...and as long as it gives you a chance to escape with your life, it can never be considered cheating. Nut if you were the attacker...now, that's a different thing..^_^

Guys, what do you think on Musashi's double sword school? Thanks...^_^
-
The were very good horsemen, and they could shoot arrows while retreating...their bows were also of the recurved shape, giving more power...and as they were an asiatic people, they had lighter builds, enabling them to ride their horses for long lenghts...^_^
-
Using two swords can also be effective as Musashi pointed out..^_^
-
Has anyone read Mushashi's The Book of Five rings?I think there are principles in the book that suggest the outcome of actual sword fights...I could be wrong though...^_^
-
Actually, I ahven't got any formal srnis training, but here in the Philippines, arnis si taught in Physical Education using two sticks, so far as I know..but I could be wrong though..^_^
